  1. I'm the world's only female werewolf, and I've been called back to my pack to help investigate the deaths of some humans on their territory.
  2. I was thinking of doing exactly the same! I've got the whole day to myself, and thought I might go and see the film again - the local multiplex is going an over 18's showing of the film, so I might go to that and hopefully avoid all the kids who are only going for a night out. Most of the kids in the viewing I went to yesterday were well behaved, but there was one group of about twelve who'd obviously seen the film already and sat spread over three rows and kept swapping seats, chatting and then disappearing out to the toilets or the concession stand, then coming back in and starting the process all over again!
  3. Read From Dead To Worse today, and liked it a lot, although I felt that the first half of the book was very strong, with lots of action building up to then the second half was a lot of exposition without much really happening. It was almost like she was tying up some loose ends for a few different story lines that have been going on throughout the last few books while laying the ground work for some new plots for the next books. I also think that Eric has now become my favourite, taking over from Sam, although it's almost neck and neck between the two!
  4. I keep most of the books I read, but we have hundreds of books (shelves full in every room in the house, plus boxes in the loft) and it's just not practical to keep every single book. If I didn't like a book, or if I don't think I'll ever read it again, then it will go to a charity shop. Every now and again, I'll have to revisit some shelves and try and clear some extra books out, so that I can fit more in - this is usually when the book shelves not only have the books on them stood up as normal, but also have books piled on top of these as well.
  5. Like the new website, peacefield, but I notice it doesn't have the photo from the set where RP has taken his shirt off ! I'm surprised it hasn't turned up as an avatar yet
  6. Since we're talking about the films, I think there's going to be some new footage of New Moon premiered at Comic Con tomorrow, so I hope it will be put online soon after.
  7. Frankie, I think Roxi's right, just because I love a film, doesn't necessarily make it a good film. Same with the book, I know the writing is not great, but doesn't stop me enjoying it. I can watch Twilight again and again and again, I'd never be able to give it more than 7 out of 10 because I know what I consider a 10 out of 10 film, and Twilight doesn't even come close. Sorry, I still love it, but it's not a great film by a long stretch!
  8. Whenever I think of great love stories, I do think of classics, or certainly books that seem to be standing the test of time. I know a lot of people cite Pride and Prejudice, but I think Persuasion is the better love story from Austen, and I also adore A Room With A View by E. M. Forster. Trying to think of modern books that may still make an impression on me in the years to come, and the ones that stick out are The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger and Girl Meets Boy by Ali Smith. I read TTTW two and a half years ago and remember shedding tears over it, while I read GMB just last year and it was a totally uplifting, joyous depiction of love.
  9. I think it would have been hard for Meyer to justify . I would still have preferred it as two books.
  10. I've just been to see the film this morning. After being really disappointed by the last film, my expectations were low, particularly as it was the same director. But, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought for the most part, it kept the plot and the action moving well, it looked great, and hit the right balance of sticking to the HP story while making it an entertaining film. Still nowhere near up to the standards of PoA, but on the whole, a much better effort. The one thing that I think has been wrong from the beginning, though, is Dumbledore. Harris played him as an avuncular, doddery lightweight, while Gambon has played him as a distant, fleeting, transient drifter. For me, Dumbledore should be a strong, assertive presence, and I just don't think that has been achieved on film. Harry's reaction to is over the top considering the relationship that has developed on screen, because Dumbledore has never had the strength of character displayed in the books. /rant over
  11. Completed book seven of the Sookie Stackhouse series, All Together Dead this morning. One of the better books in the series, plenty going on and the pace of the action kept the pages turning nicely. I like how the supernatural world is gradually expanding with each book, but how she keeps all the threads we already know about moving forward as well. Doesn't beat my favourite, Dead to the World, but still a good, exciting book.
  12. I'm good, thanks, Gyre and I hope you're keeping well. I think this is a great challenge. I love finding a new series of books to wallow in Over the last few years, I've read quite a few series of books myself including the Agatha Raisin series by M. C. Beaton, the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde, the Mediator series by Meg Cabot, the Sookie Stackhouse series, Twilight, Young Bond, Alex Rider, various series by Alexander McCall Smith and the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver. I might give the Kelley Armstrong books a go myself - I need to reduce my current TBR list first though!
  13. I find that's usually a good thing, as it means I don't feel any pressure to love a book just because everyone else has, or feel awkward if I love something everyone else has hated. At least with mixed reviews, I can approach it knowing there are lots of different views out there, and I'm free to make up my own mind.
  14. I wasn't that bothered by , and I can see why it was a necessary plot point, and although I loved , I would have preferred it if it had actually been split into two books, with more details about , with a second book about .
  15. I'm not sure that the author writes the questions, I think it's more likely something the publisher decides to include, partly as a marketing tool. It's seen as a way to add something extra to the reading experience, sort of like DVD extras for the book world, making the reader think they're getting extra value out of the book.
  16. I've just finished The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery. It had an interesting start, and I was expecting it to go in a certain direction, but it panned out in a different way. The story follows a 54 year old widow who is a concierge of a smart Parisian apartment block, and a 12 year old girl who is the very intelligent daughter of one of the families that inhabit the property. Both have a very different public image which masks the true persona that they conceal, and it takes a death in the building to bring Kakuro Ozu into their lives, allowing them to break down the facade they've carefully built up. At times I felt the characters were breathtakingly real, and almost too close for comfort, but at other times there was a hint of caricature about them, and almost a hint of mawkish sentimentality. I did enjoy it, although I did put it down with about 70 pages to go, and almost didn't pick it up again, but having convinced myself that I had to see it through to the end, I'm glad I did, as there was an unexpected conclusion to one story, but unfortunately, I felt it was a completely predictable end to the other story. So, it's mixed emotions from me on this one, but I think overall, I'm pleased to have read it.
  17. For me, the best bits of Breaking Dawn are the first few chapters , so I'm always keen to get through with Jacob! I agree that the fighting/teasing with Rosalie is funny, but I think it's more that there's too much with that I get bored with. Having said that, I suspect it's just because I've read them TOO MANY TIMES!
  18. I did watch the first episode, but I wasn't blown away by it. For those who've seen the whole series - does it just cover Dead Until Dark? It seems very little has happened in the first episode, so I'm wondering if the entire series just covers the story from the first book? I'm a bit worried if it does, as I can read the book in a few hours, but I'm guessing it's a 13-part series (I think most US series are 13 weeks, aren't they?), and I'm concerned it might start to drag after five or six episodes.
  19. Looks a bit Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones to me!
  20. I'm tempted! When I saw Roxi say there was a musical episode, I got quite excited - my new obsession with vampire stories, plus my old obsession with musicals ... how could I not love it?
  21. No, please, no! I'm just re-reading Breaking Dawn and I know why she has to go to Jacob to tell part of the story, but I just can't help skipping through it! I think Jacob is too immature for me - Edward's obviously had decades to mature, Bella's an old soul, but Jacob is just a teenager and hasn't had time to grow up, and I just find him wearing. The whole of New Moon from his point of view? I don't think I could bear it. I just want Bella and Edward. Sorry.
  22. I'm a concierge in a smart Parisian apartment block who hides a secret life from the occupiers of the property.
  23. I've never seen Buffy or Angel.
  24. It's the first week of shooting series five of new Doctor Who, and the first picture of the new Doctor and his companion on set has been released. Beware if you avoided all spoilers so far and don't want to know who the Doctor is, what he looks like, his new companion or the companions name, then don't click on the link! 25. It depends on the book - if it's light and purely entertainment then I'll whizz through it, so the Sookie Stackhouse books I can read a 300 page book in a few hours, but if it's something more challenging or requires contemplation and consideration, then I might read just 15-20 pages in an hour, and would probably read it in many sittings, and allow myself to be fully immersed in the writing while I'm reading.
