  1. I also have them all on DVD, and I'd been promising myself it was time to watch them again, but never got round to getting the DVD's out of the cupboard, so when I knew it was going to be on Dave, it seems too good an opportunity to miss! I'm so glad I did, as it was so funny last night, but how creepy are those girl guides?
  2. Well, since the series is currently being shown on Dave (started last night 9pm), and I know there is at least one other fan on this forum, I thought I'd start a thread about one of my favourite sitcoms, SPACED. Although fantastic in its own right, some of the main people involved in SPACED have gone on to make Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz It was the very first episode last night, and my favourite scene is when they've just moved into the flat, and Daisy has been cleaning. They start talking about Scooby Doo, and say that when playing as kids, Daisy had always played Daphne while Tim had always played Fred, when the camera pans out and they look exactly like Velma and Shaggy Anyone else watch it last night? What was your favourite scene/joke/character?
  3. Is that the Simon Mayo one? I haven't listened to last weeks yet, but I did see they were discussing that book, so I'm interested to see what they make of it.
  4. It was also about Karen - I know a lot of people who didn't warm to her, but I loved her from her very first appearance on Strictly with Bill Turnbull in the third series, you could just tell she absolutely adored dancing. The two of them together were dynamite. I still get goosebumps when I watch their Argentine Tango.
  5. Me too! (As if you couldn't tell from my avvie )
  6. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
  7. Nothing controversial about that - search the internet forums and you'll find a whole raft of people with the same opinion! I think the bigger problem is not that he can't dance latin dances well, but that he can't teach them. If he'd taught Laila properly and built her confidence, he could have choreographed a routine that would hide him and promote her, especially as she has such potential. I agree - I didn't like the old granny nightdress she wore in the tango waltz either, but she's such a stunning dancer, I just try and ignore the dress.
  8. I've read some of her other books and liked them a lot - in fact, Boy Meets Girl was one of my favourite books of last year, it was so joyful. I'm trying to read more short stories and came across this one in the library and couldn't resist.
  9. Finished Hunted by P.C. and Kristin Cast. Updated my TBR list to include my next month reading group book, Keeping The World Away by Margaret Forster (the other book is A Thousand Splendid Suns but I've already read it) and another library book I picked up, The First Person by Ali Smith which is a collection of short stories.

    Hello

Hello Frenzy You've certainly come to the right place to meet people who love books! It's a lovely, friendly place
  11. I've forgotten to update this for a couple of books, but I've completed both The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong and Hunted by P.C and Kristin Cast. I enjoyed The Awakening and I like that the books in the trilogy are so concentrated in their world, and this one was interesting in that it covered such a short period of time. I'm glad that she's already stated it will be a trilogy, so I know that the next book will complete the story, and it will keep the narrative constrained to this small piece of the supernatural world. I'm also enjoying the House of Night series - pure entertaining escapism. They're easy reads, and one of the few books I don't mind reading in bed, as it doesn't really matter too much if I fall asleep during a chapter, I can quite easily pick it up again the next time. I'm interested to see where the series goes after this book, and I see there is already a sixth book in the series due out in hardback later this month, and a seventh book title due for release next year. Not sure if I can wait a year for the sixth book in paperback, so I'll either be searching for a cheap hardback or seeing if the library have got it! My reading group won advanced copies of a book due for publication next month which we have to review before the end of October, so I need to crack on with that next, and then I'm really looking forward to reading Bonjour Tristesse and A Certain Smile by Fran
  12. Despite what he says, Bruce is doddery, and he likes to put his tuppence in every now and again to prove he's in charge, even if he doesn't actually have a clue what he's talking about. I'd put money on Brendan being secretly delighted at Bruce jumping to their defence and being gleeful at how well it turned out, and I already suspect there will be a Brendan vs Craig interview on It Takes Two next week, where Brendan claims to be indignant at Craigs comments and Craig defends his comments as not being personal and that Brendan should lighten up. All great publicity to get everyone voting to keep him in another week
  13. Hello musiklover!
  14. Hey Jelliebean
  15. Because he's very clever at working the public vote. In previous years he's used illegal lifts, face to face arguing with the judges, storming off from the backstage interview with Tess, arguing on It Takes Two, and those are just the first things that spring to mind! Even better from his point of view was that Bruce bought into it, and started having a go at Craig as well, heightening the prospects of staying out of the bottom two when he doesn't have a very good partner. Brendan is one smart cookie in my opinion
  16. Alesha is the first judge to give a 10 to a dance that doesn't deserve it, and she certainly won't be the last! I'm not sure that Zoe & James are as good as the judges score her - I don't see any personality in her dances and there's no connection between them, but they were still better than the bottom two. Tuffers has been a real surprise for me, so smooth and charming - who knew?! With Karen not competing this year, Flavia has taken her place as my favourite pro female. It's a bit trickier with the men - I've always loved Brendan, he's just oozes appeal when he dances, but Ian's grown on me over the years, as he's so funny, and Vincent it just such a sweetheart! I don't buy the egoistic acting, it's all a front for a lack of self confidence, and you can tell how much he cares about all the celebs he's had to teach, and then when he dances with Flavia, he's just amazing.
  17. That would be a great idea - I had a quick look (search iTunes for barcode), and there are a few barcode reading apps out there, and there are a few that look like they're on the right lines, but don't get great reviews at the moment There might be a good one out there, but I haven't delved deeply enough yet.
  18. There were some very strange scores from the judges tonight, and although I'm pleased to see that one of the weaker couples left, the leaderboard was all over the place. For me, Jade & Ian were the best of the night, and I can't believe Alesha gave Ricky & Natalie a 10. I'm not complaining that she is a judge, I think she's doing pretty well, especially considering all the flack she's had over the Arlene situation, but there is no way that was a dance that deserved a 10.
  19. Or, what I do is to use my phone to take a photo of the cover of the book - it's quicker than trying to type in the title and author, and I'm just lazy!
  20. I love Natalie & Vincent - my favourite couples tend to be ones who can dance/have potential, and also entertain me on It Takes Two - and Natalie & Vincent fit the bill perfectly. I like so many of the couples this year, but I think it's a very open competition this year, and I think it's very possible that Nat & Vince could make it a long way through. From a dance point of view, the salsa last week was good, but she needs to tidy up on her footwork - not quite so important on the salsa, but will be important this week in their first ballroom since their very first dance, the tango.
  21. What a coincidence, Janet! I've just come from the Guardian website where I'm was reading a blog entry about the book, and noticed they've got an extract of the first chapter. http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/oct/16/howards-end-is-on-the-landing-susan-hill
