  1. I have aquestin about dr. who. Since I'm not from engad I havn't grown up with the series, but it look great to me and I think I really would enjoy it. But where do I begin? It started in 1965(?) I think. Should I start watching from the beginning or from the 2005 episodes?

Personally, I'm not bothered by the classic series, so I would say start with the first of the new series in 2005 with Rose.

If you've never watched Doctor Who before, this isn't too bad an idea, as you get to understand the concepts of the character and the programme, and then if you do like it, you can go back and watch the classic series as well to see if you enjoy them too.

  2. I haven't watched the interview from last night yet, but will do so tonight. Having managed to stay as spoiler free as possible, I'm happy to watch the trailers and clips being shown now its so close, but I'm still going to avoid the big news sites, forums and as much story spoilerage as possible.

But, like you Raven, whenever I see the trailer or even any mention of it now, I look like this :smile2: or this :) Can't wait!!!

  3. I have a theory that the faster you read, the less you retain.

I have several friends who inhale books. A novel that would take me a week or so to read will be read by them in a day, but when asked about it a few weeks later they can rarely remember the detail well enough to discuss it.

Well, I'm an exception to your theory, Raven! I pretty lucking that I can remember the plot of most of the books I've read going back for years, and last year I definitely whizzed through books at a rate of knots!

In fact, I'm sometimes amazed at how good my memory of books is, right down to usually being able to find a quote or section quickly within a book I haven't read for years. I was thinking about a book I read the other day, thinking I must have only read within the last couple of years, as I remembered clearly a particular plot thread, but when I looked it up, I realised it was at least two years before I started keeping a record of my reading, so must have been about 2004!

  4. I've watched The Book Show since the beginning - I think it's in its third or fourth series now. I think you can still watch nearly all of the old stuff on YouTube, as they have a video of all the old interviews on there.

  5. I don't listen to any story based, but I did start a thread about book TV, radio and podcasts here. Having said I don't listen to any story based podcasts, I did listen to the wonderful Sir Ian McKellan reading Wolf Brother by Michelle Paver, which audible.co.uk put out as a free podcast in 14 episodes, and looking at iTunes, it's still available there.

  6. I've read a few very good fictionalised accounts of history, my two favourites being The Master by Colm Toibin and Arthur & George by Julian Barnes. I think they require so much research but are more entertaining than a straight historical account of the people and events.
