  1. Thanks - I started it today and giggled my way through my lunch break Peter Kay is playing his Dad I've read loads of books not from the jar as well, and I didn't have too many in there to start with, so it's not that much of an achievement.
  2. Started Going to Sea in a Sieve which is chucklesome to say the least!
  3. Just roasted some tomatoes and garlic ready to make a baked pasta dish tonight.
  4. What can I say … it's an addiction.
  5. The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Moshin Hamid. It's quite short, so I should be able to read it at the weekend. Ooh, can't wait to hear your thoughts on Only Ever Yours.
  6. Finished House-Bound which is one of my Persephone books, so that means at the moment, I'm now 10% complete on that book list. Next book is a pick from the Jar of Destiny, and it's given me … Going to Sea in a Sieve by Danny Baker. Really pleased about this as they're filming a television adaptation for it, and I want to read it before it's broadcast, and I've been listening to a lot of his podcasts recently, so great timing all round. That means I've now read 15 picks from the book jar, have 43 left in there, plus this one I've picked, so I'm 25% of the way through my book jar books.
  7. I haven't read the above posts as I'm still two chapters short of finishing book four. I've been trying to catch up by listening to the audio book, but the version I bought is split into four parts to download, and the second part finishes at the end of chapter 40 and the third part starts at the beginning of book five and chapter 43! Trying to find out if I can get a refund or a full copy, but I'll have to read the two missing chapters in the mean time. I should be caught up within the next couple of days, and then I can read book five by the 24th.
  8. Just watching tonights episode of Pointless - ridiculously chuffed with myself to get all 14 answers correct in the Dystopian novels round, including a pointless answer!
  9. I finished House-Bound today, and it had a much stronger finish than I'd been expecting. Back to the book jar for my next read, although I do still have my book group book to read, so if I don't like the pick, I might go for that instead.
  10. A bit disappointed to see the end of Melissa & Joey, but we're only at the end of series 3 over here, so we've still got another series to watch. It's a typical cheesy sitcom, but I can't help but like it. Hope that The Mindy Project gets picked up as that's another one I like, although again, there's still a series to be shown over here, so I've got a little bit more to enjoy.
  11. Pouring with rain on the way into work this morning, glorious sunshine on the way home … ah, the Great British Summer is upon us!
  12. I think it lacked a bit of drama … there was nothing that really compelled you to turn the page or read just one more chapter, which I felt both her first two books had. If it was almost any other book (possibly only Captain Corelli's Mandolin surpasses it), I'd be less resistant to re-reading it, but, the memory of the feeling I had while reading it is still so strong, it's clouding my decision.
  13. Good to hear - I've got it ready to watch, but as usual, don't know when I'll get around to it.
  14. If I read a whole series, or a batch of books from one series within a short period of time, I try to review them in one single review, so that I don't have to put the synopsis up which would spoiler earlier books in the series, and also I can just write about why I'm enjoying the series and any highlights (or low points) of the books I've read so far. I also don't bother reviewing everything I've read, if it was just something easy and light, I list it in my books read, but other than saying I enjoyed it, there's probably not much more to say, so I don't worry about it.
  15. Back to work today. Not too bad in the end, but it's always a bit of a downer coming back to work after a holiday, compounded by some very disruptive new road works which will be in place for two weeks, and are going to add time and stress to my journey home. Popped in to see my dad on the way home, so that made me a bit cheerier!
  16. Decided to pick up and carry on with House-Bound again and I'm not about two thirds of the way through, so I think I'll finish it now.
  17. It's not been broadcast over here yet. This week will be episode 18, so I guess I've got six weeks to wait.
  18. We went to North Devon and stayed in a cottage (converted barn) on a farm in the middle of the countryside, but only about 20 minutes away from beaches and the coast, so I spent time at the beach, in town and on the farm, so I had the best of all worlds.
  19. Have had a monster reading week … I love holiday reading! In the last week, I've read: The Ghost and Lady Alice by M. C. Beaton The Bloody Tower by Carola Dunn Lady Lucy's Lover by M. C. Beaton The Quilter's Apprentice by Jennifer Chiaverini The Chocolate Debutante by M. C. Beaton Obsidian Curse by Barbra Annino Summer at the Beach Street Café by Jenny Colgan The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson The Viscount's Revenge by M. C. Beaton The Boy in the Smoke by Maureen Johnson The Green Hill Murder by Kerry Greenwood The Black Ship by Carola Dunn A Marriage of Inconvenience by M. C. Beaton A Governess of Distinction by M. C. Beaton I don't like to read serious books that require concentration on holiday, I like to be entertained and just relax, so there's a lot of romantic comedies and historical crime in there! Good to catch up with the next couple of Daisy Dalrymple murder mysteries, and also the next Phryne Fisher book too. I won't review all these books, and I'm way behind with others too, but I'll try and catch up later.
  20. I think two times would be my limit - I don't think I could face picking up a book a third time despite the difference in how I felt with this book on the second attempt. It might be a while, but I'm sure I will pick up another one at some point.
  21. Finished the last of my holiday books last night, so I need to decide what to read today. I put aside House-Bound a couple of weeks ago, so I might pick that one up again, or I might start A Robot in the Garden by Deborah Install thanks to Michelle's recommendation.
  22. Got home from holiday to find it so cold we had to put the heating on to take the chill off the house … in MAY!!!!! Not so cold today, but it's a bit grey today, and I suspect we might be in for a bit of rain later.
  23. How could I have forgotten A Suitable Boy? Maybe I need to revise my list I like the idea of a second list for non-fiction - I could move my non-fiction off to a separate list and fit it in.
  24. Hope everyone is having a good weekend. We're back from a weeks holiday, so need to sort myself out ready to go back to work tomorrow. Hoping I can sort everything out this morning and then have one last relaxing afternoon before it's back to the early mornings! Had a lovely time, with lots of reading, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Catching up with the forum first, then it'll be shopping for lunches and organising myself for tomorrow, then hopefully, I might have time for a bit of sewing this afternoon, and perhaps sneak in a bit more reading too.
  25. Sorry to hear that, but it does happen to all of us from time to time. Hope things improve for you soon.
