and the booze.
Don't mock my prattling. You seem to be enjoying it on the topic of handbags, after all. *laughs*
That goes without saying.
And yes, I'm enjoying it in the handbag section.. but here's Frankie, trying to steal my thunder.. pretty effective, picking hockey, I must say.. If I wasn't giving Frankie the cold shoulder over it, I'd applaud her "go big or go home" method.
Good, I could lose a few pounds!!I honestly laughed my ass off at Bethany's first comment, one of the most funniest moments on the forum I've experienced!
Good.. I only kid.
I am not truly annoyed.. secretly I'm happy you guys have someone to prattle on about hockey with, but that's awfully big-girl of me to feel that way, so I'm not advertising it...

So glad you knew I was only kidding, Frankie
I AM anti-sports, though. Except for the nachos.. and occasionally hot dogs.. served at the events. Those things make them near-fun occasions, somehow!
Now I'll shut up so ii can prattle on some more in response to your questions.. way to open it up, Frankie...

Oh, dear God...

That's great, Dan. You're great at raining on other people's parades. Nice talent.

What sort of work would you do in HK? It's great that you have the possibility, yet no obligation... So you can just get back to it when you want. The added bonus being you'll appreciate the leisure time even more by comparison! *grin*
EDIT: oh, and as an on topic aside, I'm still desperatly looking for my mojo. Not sure those books on generations in the workplace I got for my m

Don't let Rawr scare you away
Welcome! Hope you're enjoying it so far, Natty!
-
Hopefully Michelle is drinking martinis, too, and won't care how off-topic we've been.
I'm back on-topic, just in case that isn't what's going on!
-
Not your family's style? You could come hang out with me and Beth at BF's summer place! We're turning chopping wood into a spectator sport.
Oh, yes, come! We're having music, refreshments, magazines, and binoculars. My husband will be working so I'm going to play with those who don't have traditional day jobs.
Nice! But just wait for the payback once you return to the states...Actually, are you planning on starting work again immediately?
I joke around.. but yes, I will be going STRAIGHT back to work. I may even do some work in HK after my mom's visit is over, since the gov't sponsors spouses to work there. I started volunteering as quickly as possible in India, as I missed work a lot. I'm enjoying this sunny hiatus vacation thing I have going on in Singapore, but I really do like work and I'll go back as soon as I feel like I want to, or when I get back to the States.. whichever comes first.
-
*laughs* Actually I'm sure it would work, or more along the lines of "your the one's who upped and left and rented the family home out!", you know, the whole guilt trip
Well.. again.. this could work there, too. :
I prefer the "I had a job.. In fact, I made more money than you did before you graduated from business school. And I left it so we could take this job we wanted for you. Now move to the left or right.. You're blocking my sun and dripping water on me' method."

Hey, I was in a strategy group work on the highly fascinating sector of archives... Any distraction was welcome
It's not going to be nearly as much fun now that Dan spoiled it for us and now we know all we have to do is roll our mouse over the logo...
*cracks up*And it's too late. We've already been established as the Official BCF Drunks.
I guess there are worse things we could be... aren't there?? Surely there are...
-
Or parents living in the faraway place? Might that work? *looks doubtful*
I'd say that could work.. As long as they're not old enough to be in danger of kicking off and leaving you without a mortgage payments, pool, bathtub, job, or ability to speak to anyone outside of the English-speaking bookseller.
Yes, that could work. Especially if they still buy into that "i'm small and helpless" -act. Oh, sorry, that's for men. My mistake.I prefer the "I had a job.. In fact, I made more money than you did before you graduated from business school. And I left it so we could take this job we wanted for you. Now move to the left or right.. You're blocking my sun and dripping water on me' method."

You just have to trace your mouse over it and it tells you.
I KNEW I shouldn't have had that first martini at 11am..
You know, I really love this place... When I saw this google page this morning I thought: oh nice logo, but what the hell is it?... I must check the BCf google page thread later.
You should have your first martini at 11am, I think...
Just playing!!
-
Great plan! How did I not think of it?? I'll join you in a few minutes, just a few minor details to take care of...
Haha.. that was really funny!
I liked it
You're easy.Erm... does one have to have a husband?
Yes.. It's the simple things that make me happy. But triple chocolate cookies AND a chocolate martini? That's good enough for most people!
And no.. one doesn't HAVE to have a husband.. just a trust fund, I guess, is the only other option.
-
Thank you. I am perfectly happy again.
My mojo is most definitely in place, btw... I've read an average of 1 book every 3 days since being in Singapore. If anyone needs ideas for how to get your mojo back, try living in a foreign country where you don't know anyone, your husband works long hours, you have a pool and huge bathtub at your disposal everyday, and your best friend is the English-speaking bookseller in the secondhand book shop. It does amazing things for lost mojo.
-
Well, I was referring to something tangible.
Why don't you create some cookies then, since you (not the harem) ate them all?
That would help MY mojo, I bet...
-
I thought that's what it was, also, but then I thought maybe my screen was just messed up for a bit..
I'm still not totally positive, but seeing as how that's your assumption, too, Chrissy, I'm going to go with it! Just slightly confusing as the Google icon usually goes with a certain day... ?? Not up on enough Morse code to know how it could relate.
-
I'm really confused about today's... what in the world is that?
(excuse my ignorance)
-
ii ate ALL the cookies???
-
No problem
It does look good, doesn't it?! Maybe they didn't butcher this one.

3) The Book Thief - Markus Zusak (another book I've had for a while but not gotten around to reading!)
I've read this one out of your list and loved it.. great story, and really well-written IMO. I hope you enjoy.
I've read quite a lot her books actually! The first being 'Flora's Lot' that somebody had left behind when I was on holiday a couple of years ago. I'd never heard of her before then!I can recommend 'The Rose Revived', 'Going Dutch' and 'Life Skills' - they're all set on barges (she must have been going through a phase or something!) and I loved them!
Lovely heartwarming stories with a touch of comedy! Just what I want to read after reading something heavy!
Thanks for the recs here! I do the same thing as you do.. pick up a Fforde to read after some heavier stuff. It works perfectly for me.

Here's the trailer for the movie coming out soon, just in case anyone hasn't seen it yet.

My next books to read over the next month or so are:-
1) Restoring Grace - Katie Fforde
Is this your first read by her, or have you read many of her stories? I haven't read this particular Fforde yet, but I've read 2 of hers over the past couple of weeks: "Stately Pursuits" and "Living Dangerously." I liked them both a lot.. I'm trying to locate "Practically Perfect" as it's been highly recommended around this board, but haven't gotten my hands on it yet. Hopefully soon!

Just saw this, AFTER I asked you in the "Book Activity" thread how it was coming along.. Sorry!
Glad you enjoyed.. I have the first mystery on my list so I'm even more encouraged now to pick it up.
Thanks for posting your review!
