  1. I started this book on Sunday and haven't been able to put it down. It's been on my tbr list since I read a newspaper article last autumn, about the book and the real life case it is about. It's set in the summer of 1860 and revolves around the murder of a young boy who was taken from his bed during the night. Anyone in the house could have committed the crime and as this is real life things don't tie up neatly like they tend to do in fiction. The Mr Whicher of the title is the detective assigned to the case. This was at a time when police detectives were fairly new and were given almost superstar status by the general public. It's fascinating to see how such a case was investigated with the limited resources available at the time. There is a real element of who dunnit about the case, and I am intrigued to see how it turns out and am resisting looking the case up online as I don't want to spoil the journey of the book. Would love to know if anyone else has read this or plans to and what your thoughts are. xxSparklexx
  2. I must admit to being rather underwhelmed with Kathy's latest 'Devil Bones'. I didn't seem to flow like her previous books did and I found it a struggle to finish. Will give it another go sometime though, as maybe I just wasn't in the right mood for it. Usually, I really enjoy her books and have read them all. This one just didn't seem to click.
  3. Count me in a as a fan of Tess Gerritsen. I have read all of the Rizzoli/Isles series and a few stand alone ones, my favourite of which is Gravity. The tension in that novel is superb and really kept me on the edge of my seat. I was lucky enough to meet Tess at a book signing last year and she was very friendly and informative.
  4. Hi all, New member signing on. I'm an avid reader (as I suppose we all are) and am not usually without a book. I will read almost anything, though I am partial to mysteries, historical and contemporary fiction. Am just going to explore the boards and see what is being discussed. Regards, sparkle
