Oh yeah, I definately just got lucky with it, Beth. I adored the comics, I'd love to see them done out properly in a comic book.
I saw Salem Falls by Jodi Picoult in a shop today, can anyone tell me whether I should pick it up? It was €4 second hand.
There's about 7 books in town I want to buy
-
Okay I'm glad to see so many people enjoyed The Secret Of Crickley Hall, because I managed to get it for €2.50 in a charity shop today. It's huge! 630 pages! I'da bought ANY book of 630 pages for €2.50!

I saw a book by her in a charity shop today, but I picked up two others so I might grab it another day.

Just had some Haagen Dazs Cookies And Cream. MMMM.
-
That's right, rub it in our faces.
-
Oooh I like the sound of this! Must add it to my wishlist.
-
Hi Inver.... glad to see you enjoyed another Jodi Picoult book! I'll be sure to keep an eye out for that one. And thanks for the review on the Anita Shreve book, she's another author that's on my wishlist, I had no particular book choice by her, I just wanted to read *A* book at some point. Might try 'Light On Snow'.
-
I don't MIND whether it's hardback or paperback, I'm just being curious!
I'm really excited about reading it now.
-
OOoooh it's lovely! Is it hardback or paperback?
-
Oh Cameron Diaz is in it! Interesting to see someone THAT well known in a book adaption.
I don't WANT to like Cam, but I always love any movie she's in.
-
I've only really recently discovered Kings Of Leon as anything other than 'that band that has that stupid song title about sex.'
They're actually a bloody good band - I'm amazed. I love their sound, but it's nothing amazing. But LYRICALLY - they just nail certain sentiments, at least one in every song.
My current favourites:
'I get lost in the night, so high, I don't wanna come down.' - Revelry
and particularly
"I never ever cried when I was feeling down,
I've always been scared of the sound,
Jesus don't love me, no one ever carried my load,
I'm too young to feel this old." - Cold Desert.
Oh, and while I'm at it, I might as well include the lines I like most from Rizzo's signature song, which are my favourite lines in any song in Grease, and also related to the above sentiment:
"I could hurt someone like me,
Out of spite, or jealousy
I don't steal, and I don't lie but
I can feel, and I can cry -
A fact I'll bet you never knew.
But to cry in front of you;
That's the worst thing I could do.'

I didn't know My Sister's Keeper was being turned into a movie! Oh I can't wait to read it now! They're going mad turning loadsa books into movies, aren't they?
-
TTW better be good. I'm not sure about Eric playing Henry, but I hope he does a good job.
Eric is the only thing so far I'm really happy with!
-
I couldn't get into this book - it felt too forced. Might give it another go at some point but as someone who knows people with Aspergers, (who are admittedly mostly high-functioning) I still thought it was too forced.
-
Ohh I'm looking forward to TTW, but I don't like the fading (he definatley went POOF in the book, I'm certain she said it) and I don't like that people have the wrong colour hair.

I started the year with about 20 books in cork, and now have over 80. I've read less than half of those, so I still have a good 40+ to read. Man, that scares me a little.
-
Ceinwenn you caaaaaan't do that, you already gave me Tenth Circle! You'll have no books left if you keep giving them to me!
-
Awwhh thanks Ceinwenn. I can't afford postage back right now, but when I can I might do that. Or I might just buy a copy when I get some cash, I LOVE The Tenth Circle (only 66 pages to go!) and everybody reckons My Sister's Keeper is better - I've bought books with less reason than that!
-
Yes, it was originally published in German, although it doesn't read like a translation to me.
I don't see what the author's nationality has to do with it though - plenty of people write about countries other than the one they were brought up in. Lots of writers use non de plumes as well.
Plus every book doesn't have to be insightful, does it:) Sometimes I just want to read something light and funny, and this fitted the bill for me.
I'm only joking - the west of Ireland where I'm from is particularly well known for being nothing more than a giant bog overpopulated by sheep who are probably more intelligent than the locals
-
If the author isn't Irish, and she's probably not given her name, then it's a little disturbing that people aren't writing anything more insightful than detective sheeps about Ireland
I still want to give this a go though, I might get a laugh out of it.
-
Congrats Sara!! Hope you enjoy the book!
-
Cool Mac, thanks for the review, it's going on the list.

Just started The Tenth Circle, despite the fact that it's not getting the best reviews by FAR (in fact, the almost exclusive consensus seems to be that while it's a good read, it's just not up to par with her other work) I'm actually loving it. It's the first book I've read by her, and I really, really like it. Maybe my partiality towards comics and Dante help that, though.
My Sister's Keeper seems to get the best reviews, I might try and read that one next.

A book about sheep detectives in Ireland.
I don't know whether the author is Irish or not, but either way it says it all about Ireland.
Adding to my wishlist, too

I haven't seen BJM, but I was looking it up today.
I might get it.
