  1. It would be nice to think people would have manners wherever they were. In my local Waterstone's I constantly hear people talking to staff in such a way that if it was said to me I'm pretty sure I'd be arrested:irked:. I'll stop before I go on a rant:). Anyway did she get a refund?

  2. Without wanting to be silly, The Trial isn't exactly a classic "christmas present" kind of book...

Well maybe not:) but I basically had a large list of books that I wanted and so I used christmas to get as many as I could:D

Also I never really look at books in that way. It's the same with music, I don't have to be in a particular mood. I just enjoy music/reading.

  3. I've been wanting to read War and Peace for so long now. The problem is i have so many other books on the go at once. I need to set myself a target of finishing what books I am reading and forcing myself not to pick up any more.

Think if you are going to read such a classic you really have to give it your full attention. Of course this is just my humble opinion:)

  4. I would choose to be Daniel Sempere from The Shadow Of The Wind. Not because I would especially like to be Daniel but because He is friends with Fermin Romero de Torres, one of my favourite characters. To spend a day with him and listen to his forthright views on politics, women, and religion I think would be a very interesting day:D.

  5. Too many to list here but below is what i know i have so far:)

    The Hobbit by J R R Tolkien.

The Pillars Of The Earth by Ken Follett.

The Grass Is Singing by Doris Lessing.

The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing.

The Good Terrorist by Doris Lessing.

    The Trial by Franz Kafka.

Unjust Rewards by Polly Toynbee,David Walker.

The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx.Friedrich Engels.

A Christmas Carol And Other Christmas Writings by Charles Dickens.

I know i've forgotten some but they're all wrapped now:).

  6. My girlfriend does enjoy reading although not as much as me. I would like her to read more and so i bought alot of Tess Gerritsen and Stephen King books that i thought she may like and has started to read more. We both just read Cujo together which definitely seems to have pushed her on quicker than normal to finish a book. So hopefully this strategy works and we can read alot more in the future:)

  7. Never lied about what i have read. As has been said in earlier posts there may be a slightly less than flattering view of readers and maybe reading in general. So it seems rather strange that, presumably, these very same people should try to impress by lying about books they have read.

  8. Hello. I have just got Noble House by James Clavell from the library. After reading some reviews on line, it was mentioned that it ties up some points from other books in his asian saga series. My question is, should i read these books in order or can i skip the first few and start with this one?. Thanks in advance.

  9. I love Sebastian Faulks and have read and loved all his other books. However i did not finish this book which is something i very rarely do. Engleby just didn't grab me at all.

The book remonded me of Catcher In The Rye, which is another book i did not like.

This in no way diminishes Faulkes in my eyes, he is still one of my favourite authors.
