Amazing! Your holiday is 8 months away and already you have your holiday reading sorted out
-
Okay so that's how it all went down. Please be careful sorting out your TBR pile, we do NOT want Birdman knocking you over! I'm eager to see what's on your TBR after you've sorted it out, don't take too long I hope you don't think I'm going to read everything that's on my TBR, wishlist and Rory Lists this year, because that's just impossible! I just wanted to make the lists and add them on my blog so it'll be easier to follow how my TBR is increasing/decreasing and how much I've left to read on this and that list. I'll be carrying on with those lists for the next 5 years at least! Steal away, but in the case of Jasper Fforde please notice that Lost in a Good Book is a part of a series which should definitely be read in order. So start with The Eyre Affair Fforde is a very good choice by the way, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Could someone please list all the housemates of this year's CBB, pretty please? I can't wait to hear who are in the house, me and BF are going to start watching this (and we'll get the episodes a day later than you guys).
-
I haven't read Sellevision yet, it's a fictional novel so I'm not that keen on it, I'm more into Burroughs's memoirs and autobiographical stuff. Running with Scissors is definitely the most hilarious one (it's about his childhood and teenage years), Dry is also funny but a bit more on the serious side occasionally (it's about his early adulthood and his first years in the business world), and Wolf at the Table is not funny at all, it's really dark and gloomy (that one's about his relationship with his father). I've also got Positive Side Effects but I haven't read that one, I think it's a collection of his autobiographical short stories.

What what what??? There's a Celebrity BB going on?? Grand!
-
BF is watching Eric Johnson on youtube so I'm listening to that

Wow, we have a lot of books in common when it comes to TBR/wishlist, I'll be following your blog closely to see when you'll be reading these and what you think about them I really hope you enjoy these two, A Tale of Two Cities is one of my most favorite reads ever! The first 100 pages or so seemed to drag on a bit for me at least but when you get past that, things start to happen and the going gets good Running with Scissors is also an excellent read, I love Augusten Burroughs's novels! I think this novel has been a Reading Circle book on here at some point so if you're interested just search the forum and you'll find a thread about it. Burroughs has a real talent to write about delicate and disturbing subject matters in a way that one can't help but laugh (if one enjoys dark humour) and only afterwards one may realise that the actual thing is not funny and it's not supposed to be so. Burroughs has written other novels as well and if you enjoy this one I'd definitely recommend you read the other as well Happy reading in 2010 CaliLily!

Hello Ruth and happy New Book Year 2010, I hope you find many, many great reads this year! Your reading list has been one which I have followed rather closely for a while now, I've found books such as The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein all thanks to you! I also noticed during the hols that you keep an actual book&movie blog and I started going through that too, and couldn't stop until I'd browsed through the whole of last year. For example, I found the movie Wristcutters from that blog and watched it during the hols with BF and we enjoyed it immensely. So thank you Ruth As for this year, The Stepford Wives sounds like an interesting read, I didn't know it was a book as well. I'm adding that to my wishlist.

That's true, I can start which ever way I want and I can't go wrong! Mind you, I didn't know some of the books are part of a series so I'm glad you posted that list for that reason as well. Apparently Charm didn't know either so you saved her as well. Good job Agent C-Woman Where on earth did you find it?? I'm so pleased that you did!! So which is it, did your Mum remember the title of the Hayder book wrong, or did you actually get the Treatment from her but had already gotten Birdman from somewhere else? Maybe the Tokyo books is actually the New York -trilogy by Paul Auster. Or A Passage to India by E. M. Foster? Should I stop, am I confusing you even more? =P I hope so too! And you'll be sure to know what I thought of it when I'm done. I'm either going to thank you for making me aware of such a great book or … mope somewhere in your vicinity. Thanks Janet for the recommendation, if I enjoy The Physick Book I'll be sure to take a look at The Heretic's Daughter I know I haven't even read one single book yet or written a review for that matter and this blog is already on page 4, I love it! It's so nice when people pop in for a chat =)

Thank you so much catwoman for the research! It does give some insight to what might be the best and what not. Although I have to say I'm quite baffled to see that there haven't been that many voters. Pig Island got the biggest amount of votes but it got only 2,5 Maybe I should just start with that and get the worst book over with I hope you've only misplaced Birdman and will find it soon CW! Edit: Can't start with Pig Island because I don't have it I have Tokyo and Birdman. I think. I just checked but I'm already confused. The names of the Hayder books are all so alike!!

Thanks Ben, I'm pretty confident I'll have a great year of books ahead of me I've heard people saying that the series might not grip you from the get-go but you need to read a couple of the books or maybe even three to get the gist of it and to really get into the series (if you didn't like it at first). So if you've got the next installment or will be able to get it from the library I think people will most likely suggest you read it Now only we need is someone who's actually read her greater books to tell us which ones they are

Rick Ross - Hustling' Again And again

Oh you're already using Shonali's list, well okay then. You won't be shocked by the massive amount of 250 books (some of which are twice on the list like you said). I think I might have to include this list to my Rory booklist on my first page of this blog That's a lot of editing right there... Indeed If I'd be seriously, utterly and totally committed to this thing and would have all the time in the world, I'd start watching the series from the first ever episode and make my own list. But then I wouldn't actually have any time left to read the books... Also, I've been doing that Rory list for a couple of years now and I can't see myself dropping it just like that since I've done so much of it already. And most of the books on the list sound really great and some of them are on my TBR list anyway. I wouldn't want to include the Oprah books that have come out after the show ended, either. Besides, I can't even imagine Rory doing an Oprah reading list in the first place. Okay she's a very influential American person but it's just too mainstream US for me and I can't see Rory doing something like that, not when it comes to books. The list that you found and put on your latest post seems really good. I need to work that into my Rory list as well. Man this is turning out to be a lot of work! Edit: Shonali's doc spreadsheet is awful, I can't copy+paste from that so I'll have to do it manually o_O

Well okay it's a bit on the fluffy side, I have to give you that A bit like an 80s perm gone straight but with all the volume still intact! It was definitely wrong of Richard to not tell Emily about it and have such a secret for so many years. But on the other hand, what does it tell us about Emily, that Richard doesn't feel safe telling her something like that? Richard knew she'd be frantic and would try to forbid him to see Pennilyn. And that would create a huge argument, every year. I kind of understand where he's coming from too. Not that I condone his going behind her back. And you're totally right, Emily always finds a way to blame everything on Lorelai. They have one of the most complicated mother-daughter-relationships I've ever seen on TV. I hate it the way they always get a little bit closer every now and then, and then they find a way to take two steps back. Like cats and dogs. Yay!! You've made a good choice chesilbeach and you won't regret it! Oh I can't wait for you to get to season 2.... Get the DVD's and start watching, asap!!

Now that's what I'm talking about! Books books and more books I knew you couldn't be seriously suggesting not buying them. But your mojo, that's the trickiest one I've ever seen. It was always up and running and totally bailing you last year, and we can't have that now can we? I do hope your mojo will be settling down soon, for good. You've managed to give me hope that I will someday be able to actually read the book and maybe even enjoy it! Thanks you guys That's what everybody keeps saying so it must be true. I'll just need to stay focused for the first couple of pages/chapters and get into the flow. I'll be watching out for you today to see if you've really picked up a Deaver! I've already ordered the book and should be getting it next week or the week after that at the latest I'm really excited about that one! Thanks Kylie I'm still quite surprised myself, I didn't think something like that could be possible to achieve. But let's remember that I did read a lot of short novels and YA books. And no chunky reads! Yep yep ”You and Kylie have 226 books (or 22.76% of your library and 21.50% of her library) in common. Your tastes for those 226 ratings are 93% similar. ” That's just incredible! It'll be interesting to see where that 93% will go as the year passes and we have more book ratings to compare ^^

I think I've only come across with one Rory list with 120 books, I've seen the same list on many different websites in different formats but it's always the same 120 books. I think the same list is on Goodreads because they're always reading something from that list but I can't be sure because I couldn't find the actual list of books they're doing on their website. However, now that you mentioned seeing different lists with different books I did a little digging and found this site. That person seems to be a huge GG fan and I would think that she knows what she's talking about. Take a look at the google docs spreadsheet she's made, it's massive!! But it does include books that are mentioned in the show but are not actually on the Rory Booklist. I've always found the Rory Booklist a bit arbitrary. There are books that Rory would quite likely read. Okay, why not. And there are some great books on that list so I don't mind going through with it. But what I'd like more is a complete list of books that are actually mentioned on the show, a list of books that Rory and let's say Jess talk about having read or wanting to read. I think that docs spreadsheet includes those books and I'd rather do something like that Edit: Okay I found the same Shonali girl with her spreadsheet on here.

Why would you two want to cut Gil's hair short?? What's wrong with you two, don't you get rock 'n roll and the hair that goes with it? (Do I need to say I have a thing for longhaired guys... Well, not all of them and not Gil, in particular, but hey you need to respect the do! ) There are a dozen or more flavors?? I'm sorry Kylie, but I couldn't imagine having one for breakfast, I couldn't stummick it in the morning. I've just recently realised what figs are so at least I think I have a general idea about the flavor but I have no idea about the texture. They sound like cookies to me? I was thinking about the exact episode you were talking about when I mentioned the 'Newtons! Another great episode, aye? Richard's having so much fun in his alma mater with his old school friends I love all the traditions they have, very Ivy League. Horrible for Emily though, I always feel so sorry for her in that episode It's the start of a really rocky patch for the two of them. Edit: Now I almost forgot: any other Gilmore Girly snacks you can think of? My mind is totally blank at the moment :/

Yeah she's really great isn't she! I haven't actually seen Juno yet, but everybody tells me that the movie is fantastic and I definitely need to see it sometime Now that you mention it I can totally see the Mick Jagger reference, only Juliette is much hotter I still can't believe you've actually seen her show!! You definitely need to check out their music. I've only got their first EP, I'd recommend the songs Got Love to Kill and I Am My Father's Daughter Nice! I haven't seen that one in a while, need to do something about it.

Your own reading blog's finally set up! I was especially glad to see Chelsea Cain's Heartsick on the list as well as Laurell K Hamilton's Guilty Pleasures (that must've been catwoman's doing ). I didn't see Ann Rule's The Stranger Beside Me on your list though. And I do remember you wanting to perhaps check it out. So I thought I'd remind you of this great true crime novel, as it is really fantastic, one of my favorite reads last year. My thoughts on the novel are here in post #125, as well as your thoughts regarding my thoughts. Oh, and if you'll later realise you needed more puppies I'll be happy to delete this post Happy reading 2010 Charm

It's not like it's madly over 200, it's barely over 200. 201. Almost less than 200 books!! You didn't mean what you said, did you? Either way, I'm not going to make such silly resolutions. I'm just going to read quicker and read more. I've already resolved to watch less telly this year. There, that'll make more time for reading. Hence mount TBR getting smaller and the need to buy more books becomes more sensible. Ha! Besides, I've already ordered like 6 books, and will have to order at least 4 more. It's crucial. I have a feeling I won't like Alice in Wonderland, I've never been keen on reading the book or seeing the movie if there is such, but I thought having read that book would make the 2nd Thursday Next book easier to understand so bought it. Also I think it's on 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die. I'm not looking forward to reading the book though Why of course I just can't believe it's been ages since I read my last LR novel. I was actually thinking about rereading The Bone Collector and The Coffin Dancer recently, I enjoyed them so much! I really need to get reading these books as well. Asap. Let the Right One In seemed really gloomy when I started reading it some time ago and it didn't fit my mood so I gave it up. I'm expecting it to be great though. The Time Traveller's Wife is something I have mixed feelings about: I hear people either loved it or thought it was nonsense. I have no idea what to expect. Though I think it might be a bit difficult to get into, what with all the hopping from here to there, from now to then. You say you're having problems with one of Anne Rice's books now? Well I totally get you, because I started reading The Vampire Lestat last summer after having read Interview with the Vampire and absolutely loved it. I was so eager to read Lestat.... but I found it utterly boring and annoying. I struggled for so long but had to give it up. I might give it a go later, because I do want to continue reading Anne Rice. So did you give Anne another go or have you already replaced that book with something else? Yeah I noticed the mixed reactions to the novel and I'm quite eager to see whether I like it myself or not. I was really surprised to see it's already in our library's collection so I'll get to borrow it from there when I get back home Will let you know how I liked it after I've read it! Well I'm not totally sure, maybe it wasn't you? Or maybe you recommended some other Mo Hayder book to me? I can't really remember... Have you read any other books by her?
-
Well that was a complete waste of my time Not even Zooey Deschanel was able to save it.
-
Now I'm watching (500) Days of Summer
-
No problemos! Thanks for the offer though, it was kind of you I'm beginning to get annoyed at the fact that I'm still at BF's and don't have my Hayder copies with me
-
Joe, what a great review, thanks! I'd forgotten about this book but now I think I'm going to add it to my wishlist and actually read it someday Edit: Almost forgot to say that I'm glad you enjoyed this book so much, it seems like you are off to a good start this year

I would recommend Whip It, not the best and wittiest movie ever but a good movie nonetheless Some rare tunes as well, never heard -stuff which sounds cool. Yeah I know about Juliette and the Licks, I've got their first record for 1-2 years now and it kicks ass, it's really good!! After watching Strange Days like years ago (another epic movie!) I always thought she should be a singer in a rock group and I was soooo thrilled when I found their album I'm soo envious that you've actually seen them, she's got a lot of charisma and I believe she's awesome on stage, I've heard she goes into a zone and doesn't notice if she hurts herself while twisting and jumping around. That's dedication.
