  1. Oooh I'd love to watch that, too! Although of course I'd have no idea of the shows they were watching
  2. I've culled all emoticons as this is complaining about emoticons soooo much even though I've culled almost all of them! This sums things up pretty well. I totally forgot to do it when I said I would! I'm going to do it now, thanks for reminding me!! I think that's pretty sensible. If you tried going very artistic right from the start, you might lose interest, whereas if you first kept to the most basic, most needed things, you'd get the feel of how to do it and how to sort of keep up. I don't think anyone was perfectly happy with their weekly from the start. I'm sure everyone, or at least most people, tried a few different things before they had a feeling of what worked for them and was pleasant for the eye. Pretty!! And I know it's 'just' another Leuchtturm 1917, but gosh, I've come to really think of them as the top of the best. I mean, something to admire. Even though I do personally wish the paper wasn't that soft. You don't?? I thought I was the only one.I don't know how to explain this to you... I would've said that a pen has ink, but then a marker has ink, too, but it's a different type of ink. Okay here's a picture of a marker. https://img.clipartfest.com/6cbdd3ada449a07e34253f27b63f74a4_home-expo-dry-erase-chisel-expo-marker-clipart_900-900.png Here's a pen: http://stationeryinfo.com/uploads/images/company/54673c504e7be22151287365/pr/1416055250.jpg Oooh that looks really nice!! I've looked at the bookshops for other dotted notebooks but there aren't any, besides Leuchtturm 1917 and Moleskine. And I think it's a real shame!! Because I would like to possibly try another dotted notebook... If the paper was not as soft, I could imagine going for something else than LT1917 as my next BuJo. (I love it that LT is 1917: it's the year Finland became independent. 100 years ago! ) (Ah, now I know why it was complaining about emoticons... I had all the stuff above ^ copied twice at the bottom of this message box without me noticing it )
  3. All notebooks will work as a BuJo, it's a choice of what you like and what you need and what works for you It's the system that I really like and advocate myself, not a specific type of notebook Glad to have a new BuJo trier! I'm the same: I like to keep work and off-work as two separate things. If I was at my dream job (a librarian), I might combine the two, but at the moment, definitely not. I do have to keep a list of dates when my Boss puts money on my bank account (as I shop for her), so I do keep tabs on that on my BuJo, but the list for those dates and totals I started at the very back of the BuJo. I need the list, but I don't want to look at it while browsing my BuJo so I put the list at the very back. Smart, me! But yeah, in general people do this and that. Some like to keep an extra BuJo for work, some don't want one at all, and some have their work and personal stuff all in the same BuJo. Exactly I remember what it was like...! Wow, do you only go grocery shopping once in two weeks?! If you do, that's amazing. I wish I had your organizational skills!! Awww thanks Kylie for your kind words!
  4. I've only read five, but so far the ratings have been good, and I seem to have some kind of communication with my mojo so I'm really happy
  5. One thing that came to mind is that if I remember correctly, when this was discussed years ago, a simple click on the banner didn't produce any money, but one had to click on the banner and also buy something. Do I remember correctly? Also, personally I think you, Michelle, would make money more easily and quicker if more people paid to support the forum. I don't mean to patronize or boss around, because I've been a non-paying 'regular' member for quite a few years now. I remember being a supporter back in the day, and even when the subscription had ended, you Michelle didn't cancel my supporter membership for a year or two, and that was mighty generous! So I'm no saint myself in paying for the subscription. But I finally got my act together and got a Paypal account and it's so easy to use... I was just wondering, how much is the subscription fee at the moment? And if it was reduced by a bit, would more members decide to subscribe? And I know you don't like to 'beg' for people to subscribe, but as I'm not you or an admin or even a moderator, but a regular member, I'd like to make a plea to the other forum members to do a little digging, if possible at all! I hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes with this plea
  6. I'm sorry I'm a day late, but let me wish you a very happy 10th anniversary here on BCF!! Huzzaaaaah! And well done for having gone through the auditions! I know it's a big thing but it's amazing that you still did it! I wish I could see you at work!! All the best for the rehearsals! Also, have an amazing time at the book fair!! And do tell us what you got when you have the time
  7. I haven't had time to read much further, so I'm still only maybe 40 pages in. But this is the kind of stuff I would read, too Edit: Oh yeah and I forgot: I'm liking what I've read so far! From what I've read on your reading log (we rarely read the same books, or are interested in the same type of books, so I rarely comment), you aren't maybe as big on psychological thrillers as I am, or at least maybe go for the different ones? I really don't mind reading a number of 'I enjoyed it at the time' sort of books at the moment, because that's still a huge improvement from last year when I had a hard time finishing and enjoying anything
  8. Great review, and I'm so pleased that you really really liked the novel!
  9. It's the best, innit? I'd like to watch an episode of the British version. I think the show's a British original?
  10. I did not want to cook so I got a frozen mozzarella pizza from the store. Yummy.
  11. Just watched the first episode of the Finnish Gogglebox! We've been waiting for this show forever! <3 (One of the old couples had gotten a dog, and one of the new 'couples' had a Bulldog! What a wonderful plus to watching the show ) Edit: Now watching Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Have never watched this before (I did watch L&O years and years ago) but caught the first few minutes and this case seems interesting.
  12. I've started reading The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena, but only maybe 30 pages in.
  13. 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, which is a show I only learned about today! And the episode I randomly chose to watch is one with David Mitchell (Didn't take him long to go off on a rant )
  14. Oh boy I finished Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld last night and have no idea what to read now (a library loan, but which one). I miss Eligible
  15. 5. Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld Blurb: The Bennet sisters have been summoned from New York City. Liz and Jane are good daughters. They've come home to suburban Cincinnati to get their morther to stop feeding their father steak as he recovers from heart surgery. With five sisters under the same roof, old patterns return fast. Soon enough they are being berated for their single status and it really is too much to bear. That is, until the Lucas family's BBQ throws them in the way of some eligible single men... Bingley is not only a charming doctor, he's a reality TV star too. But Chip's friend, haughty neurosurgeon Fitzwilliam Darcy, can barely stomach Cincinnati or its inhabitants. As Liz is consumed by her father's medical bills, her wayward sisters and Cousin Willie trying to stick his tongue down her throat, it isn't only the local chilli that will leave a bad aftertaste. But where there are hearts that beat and mothers that push, the mysterious course of love will resolve itself in the most entertaining and unlikely of ways. From the hand of Curtis Sittenfeld, Pride & Prejudice is catapulted into our modern world singing out with hilarity and truth. Thoughts: I've read P&P a few times and love the book, and I've seen the miniseries at least half a dozen times. As much as I love the story and the characters, the hype surrouding the book sometimes gets to me and annoys me, and therefore I've not been in the mood to read the book or watch the series in quite a few years. And I think I personally prefer Northanger Abbey. I read chesilbeach's review on Eligible maybe last year and it kind of convinced me to give the book a go at some point, maybe. When I got the book from the library, I was taken aback by the size of it, and I did take the copy back without reading it, as someone had reserved a copy I did reserve it again and this time I actually picked it up to read it. I knew it's a re-telling, but even so, I don't think I realized how modern the book would be. These are 21st century women! They have their cell phones and they live on their own (some of them...) and they are the women who sit next to you in the subway. I got into the book rather well and thought that the book might actually be worth 3/5, which I was thrilled about, seeing as I've read one book by Sittenfeld before (Prep) and having not cared about it much. I really liked how the 'flow' of the book is the same: there will be as many curveballs in the book as there are in the original, but the curveballs have had to have been modernized by Sittenfeld. What would she come up for when this and that would have happened in the original? I couldn't wait to read it! I absolutely loved it how Bingley was made into a character who'd been on a reality TV show A version of The Bachelor, to be more precise (this comes up very early on in the book so it's not really a spoiler). That's definitely modern! And the other things that I loved (and these I have to put in spoilers): All in all, I'm so happy I read this book. Thanks chesilbeach!! And I'm really sad that I've finished the book and don't get to read more about the characters 4/5
  16. I can see it too? I think this is an excellent feature, and it's quite odd that it's only now made its way into the system!
  17. Potatoes, carrots, and liver with gravy.
  18. And a national (or universal, actually) bank holiday at least once a year
  19. All in all I read 330 pages of Eligible by Curtis Sittenfeld. I had two busy days so I didn't get to read as much as I would've liked, but I'm still happy
  20. Having recently re-read the RC thread on The Line of Beauty by Alan Hollinghurst, I'd add it to the list

    Hello :)

Hello and welcome! I like your avatar, is it an otter, perhaps?
  22. Well before his arrival in Cincinnati, everyone knew that Chip Bingley was looking for a wife. Curtis Sittenfeld: Eligible
  23. This doesn't really count, but I'm on Facebook and as I have liked Skunk Anansie, I just got a notification that they are doing a live stream session, and I'm now listening to their live concert! Oh I wish they'd come to Finland, but no.
  24. Me and Sittenfeld have not gelled in the past, so I really went into this book based on your recommendation For the first 150 pages I was looking at a 3/5 for this, now it's about 4/5. There are things in here... Oh boy! Did you not like it? I tried it some months ago but didn't like the unusual narrative. I'm currently on page 298 of Eligible, looking forward to reading more!
  25. I got my compiled list from Kylie Great to see another GG fan on here! I hope you have a great reading year in 2017
