  1. Personally I don't mind if the status updates won't come back. I rarely noticed them. I only paid attention to the latest five new topics, but even those I can find in the new content.
  2. Just found another thing. I was in a thread, quoting someone, and working on my reply, when I decided that I didn't want the quote there as I was only replying to the previous post and the quote was unnecessary and I just wanted to post what I thought. When I tried to delete the quote bit, it didn't delete it. The quote stayed there, and I couldn't get rid of it, until I just decided to come on this thread. Edit: Now I've just gone back to the thread, to have a fresh start, but the quote bit is still there. Edit: Okay now it's gone as I opened the thread in a new window. Edit: No, it's come back. Even when I'd opened the thread in a new window, once I clicked on the reply space, the quote bit came back up. Bizarre! Edit: I found out away to get rid of it. I had to go 'in' the actual quote, then press Enter to go beneath in to the reply bit, and then I pressed 'delete' and that got rid of it. Tricky minx!
  3. Ooooh! It did look a bit naked without them But didn't realize what it was
  4. This is the fourth attack of this sort in Europe within a year, isn't it? Or at least almost a year. I never ever wanted anything like this to happen in any part of Europe (or the world, for that matter), and I'm sad for all the people and all nations that have suffered an attack. But this one hits closer to home as Sweden is so like Finland... I never could have fathomed something like this happening in Sweden. I obviously want my friend back in Finland, ASAP, but it could happen over here, too. This is the world we live in now. It's just so ... unbelievable. And I know this is rather stupid and hypocritical when there are places in the world where things have not been safe for ages. It's kind of like, why should Europe be safe when there are other places that aren't safe.
  5. Is anyone doing this this weekend? I'm tempted, but I'm feeling lazy today.
  6. Ah yes, I'd forgotten you're not into funny books Just as well Elton writes not-funny books, too Something for everyone! I'm nearing the end of Popcorn, and I'm hoping to find something as easy to read.
  7. I guess it might be one of those books that seem hard reads, before one actually takes a chance with the book and starts reading it, finding it easy going Makes me think of Replay! You've read it, right? I'll keep my eyes open for a copy of the book, in case there are any at the library I've already reserved Chart Throb and Past Mortem from the library
  8. ^ I'm so sorry about the TT as you call him, and what's been done to Syria. He should be stopped somehow! On the other side of the pond, there's been some sort of attack in Stockholm: "Stockholm terror attack: Five dead as hijacked truck ploughs into pedestrians outside department store" http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/04/07/truck-crashes-crowd-people-stockholm/ We are shocked and sad about this here in Finland A friend of mine moved to Stockholm in February, thankfully he's alright!
  9. I'm sorry to hear about your Aunt, Little Pixie.
  10. I've not had any pop-ups like willoyd, I use Chrome. If that helps.
  11. I see you're going for the more serious Elton, or at least I think those are not comical books? I think I prefer the funnier side of him I hope you will like the books though!
  12. I've now read the synopsis and there's war and I also get the feeling that it's sci-fi? A dystopian novel, maybe? I wonder if it's a bit too out there for me. With Elton, I think I prefer his funny, satirical novels.
  13. That's great! I tend to use the same ones over and over again.
  14. I take that to mean you'd recommend it then?
  15. I've also read Dead Famous, which I really liked, too! I don't really know why I haven't read any of his other books, then. Hmm! I guess the plots of these two were particularly appealing to me. I'm re-reading Popcorn because I found a free copy of it at the library book exchange shelf some months ago and as I was struggling with my mojo, this one was the only book I could take to (from the ones I tried). Is Time and Time Again the only book by Elton you've read?
  16. I think the fact that you can see so many emoticons per row and there aren't that many rows to scroll down (due to so many emoticons per row), it makes it so much faster to find the one you're looking for So the actual order of the emoticons wouldn't be as important at least for me, as you'd get to the one you're looking for so quickly anyways.
  17. I like the new pop-up window for emoticons, I find it more handy than the earlier one!
  18. I'm re-reading Popcorn by Ben Elton, and I'm enjoying it immensely!
  19. It's one or the other! I'm glad to hear it! I suspect, though, that you meant to post this in the Book Activity -thread, but I'm glad you posted here as well Coincidentally I'm also now reading a Ben Elton book. It's Popcorn, and it's a re-read, but I'm loving it. Suits my mood very well!
  20. This new version has turned me into a male ... I'll now take a look if I can switch back to being a female! Edit: Yay, I'm back to being myself!
  21. Yep I was like, whaaat.... how did they print this and not know that there was a mistake? It took me so long to get it right in my head, and after that I felt so betrayed Until I admitted that it was pretty clever The epilog: And as for the other twists at the end:
  22. 9. I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh Amazon: A tragic accident. It all happened so quickly. She couldn't have prevented it. Could she? In a split second, Jenna Gray's world descends into a nightmare. Her only hope of moving on is to walk away from everything she knows to start afresh. Desperate to escape, Jenna moves to a remote cottage on the Welsh coast, but she is haunted by her fears, her grief and her memories of a cruel November night that changed her life forever. Slowly, Jenna begins to glimpse the potential for happiness in her future. But her past is about to catch up with her, and the consequences will be devastating . . . Thoughts: According to my notes, it was Ruth's review of this book that made me add it to my wishlist! For me, the book had a rather slow start. I wasn't too impressed by the way the detectives were working/not working, either I did, however enjoy the Welsh cottage life, I thought that bit of the novel was written really well. I didn't really expect the twist to shock me as much as reviews thought it would. But it did. I had to do a bit of re-reading for it to fully sink in. I thought the editor had f'd upped royally But it was real and I had to adjust my mindset accordingly. I really liked what happened in the narrative from then on: we got to hear another, new voice. I thought that one was well executed. A really good thriller, and a very strong debut. (Although I thought the epilog was unnecessary and one certain thing made my eyes roll. Could've done without.) 4/5
  23. You're now way ahead of me! I've now read 9. Seems like this year I'm reading three books per month and that's it
  24. "It's Sunday morning, fellow alumni, only a week removed from that fateful evening at the Moonbeam Catering Hall." Home Land by Sam Lipsyte
  25. I finished I Let You Go last night, I really liked it I've now started reading Home Land by Sam Lipsyte.
