  1. Must say, this game was fairly average at half-time, and suddenly three goals in seven minutes from Portugal have turned the match into a rampage - the score stands at 4-0 to Portugal, as I type. Portugal truly are dominating this match now, everyone is getting in on the act.

Edit: Well what a superb, emphatic performance from Portugal today. Thoroughly deserved all seven of those goals, and it's good that Ronaldo managed to get onto the score-sheet, I'm sure the goals will flood from him now. A team in good form, and a team to watch.

  2. I smiled when I saw that as well, Noll.

As for the episode, I have to be honest, I enjoyed it immensely. It was a good twist having The Doctor's enemies unite against him, as opposed to him just fighting off one like usual. I picked up on the box being something for or to do with the Doctor himself, because River said 'I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him,' when discussing the Pandorica. That was a clever nod in the direction. As for how they'll solve it. Of course The Doctor still has his sonic screwdriver - that's basically capable of anything other than breaking down wooden doors. There's still Amy - she's obviously not dead - Rory, and River that are capable of saving him also. I'm looking forward to the finale, though.

  3. Wimbledon starts today, and I must say I think I'll be watching quite a bit. Will have share my television time between the tennis and the World Cup, though. I should imagine Federer will probably have no trouble in his first round match, today.

Edit: I type through gritted teeth as I watch the happenings on centre court this afternoon. This really is sensational stuff, Federer has brought back a set from being 2-0 down, to make it 2-1 to Falla - I know the initial 2-0 lead surprised me as well, and Rodger's been fighting hard to stay in the tournament. I can't keep my eyes off these wonderful exchanges of play between these two players.

  4. Maybe one of the wishlist then, thanks to your glowing recommendation. As for the reading, thanks, I'm sure it should pick up soon - this is my best time period for getting through some novels, usually at the start of the year I'm too busy with school.

  5. Assassin's Apprentice sounds appealing, just from the title alone I confess that I am intrigued. Hope you're enjoying your reading this year, I've had a slow start but hopefully it'll pick up during the summer.

  6. I think the Ivory Coast player in question should feel disgraced. It was an appalling decision, and hopefully FIFA allow Kaka to continue playing immediately.

  7. I didn't like the episode either, thought it was dull and boring, like most of you guys have already mentioned. Didn't like the Daleks in this episode, they should just be used in special occasions, like Mia said, and that way it'd be more interesting when they made an appearance. Although, it might just be my rubbish sense of humour, but I enjoyed the whole 'ooh-look-I-have-a-TARDIS-selfdestruct-thingy-that's-really-a-jammy-dodger' idea. :D That said as well, I'm also starting to get used to Matt Smith a bit more.

  8. I was gob-smacked when team USA scored with 24 seconds left, the extra player thing actually worked.. for a change. All in vain though, seems fitting that the last gold medal of the games should go to the host country. Loved the hockey this Olympics, first time I've really bothered. Might watch in future, was an excellent game.

  9. So the bronze medal match will be between Finland and Slovakia, the final between USA and Canada. Should be good. I think both games will be tight, my money is on Canada for gold, USA for silver, and Finland for bronze.

  10. It's now officially boring. It was over in the first twelve minutes, and there's been no goals in the second period, which is disappointing for both teams. Finland have done well to stop them from scoring, but they really need to knock some in themselves, surely?

  11. I've with you on that one Raven, I didn't think the trailer was that fantastic. I enjoyed the bits on the grass, especially when they were discussing the flashing star and Matt said 'Oh yeah, sorry, I thought I had fixed that.' Made me chuckle.. but what was going on with the whirlwind thing? I just thought it was a bit daft. Nevertheless, looking forward to the new series.

  12. A good 100 pages into The Count of Monte Cristo and you're right Kylie, the plot does indeed fly along. I haven't had as much time as I would have liked to read it, but I'm quite content with a steady pace. I really like how it is written, the attention to detail is fantastic, while at the same time the reader's attention is not diverted away from the plot.

In other bookish news, my Charlaine Harris books have arrived, yay! The first eight in the series arrived not 5 minutes ago at my door and for a cracking price of £10.49 - including postage and packaging.

  13. Someone with some actual writing talent should try write a novel set years after that last book in the series. Obviously just for fun. In fact, people probably have done FanFics and things, but I have never bothered to check.

What I will say about the end of the series, is this: No matter how she could have ended the series, someone, somewhere, would have been disappointed. There was no pleasing everyone and I think she tied up most of the ends quite well.

  14. The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my favourite ever books, Ben. I agree that it's very daunting, but once you get into it it's very difficult to put down and the plot just flies along. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did.

Woo-hoo Ben! :D A most excellent choice - Count of Monte Cristo is one of my all time favorites as well and I'm excited to hear what you think. You will be SO glad you read it after you've finished, believe you me :).

Well thanks you two. :friends0: That's definitely good to hear that you enjoyed it so much.

  15. Okay, here it goes, my fifth book of the year (seems I have a bit of catching up to do) and it seems I couldn't have picked something more daunting. It's been recommended by many, though, so I think I'll enjoy it. Anyone else read it? What did you think? I'm planning on starting this tomorrow.

    5) The Count of Monte Cristo. - Alexandre Dumas.

    Synopsis.

'On what slender threads do life and fortune hang.'

Thrown in prison for a crime he has not committed, Edmond Dantes is confined to the grim fortress of lf. There he learns of a great hoard of treasure hidden on the island of Monte Cristo and he becomes determined not only to escape, but also to unearth the treasure and use it to plot the destruction of the three men responsible for his incarnation. Dumas' epic tale of suffering and retribution, inspired by a real-life case of wrongful imprisonment, was a huge popular success when it as first serialized in the 1840s.

  16. So what does everyone think so far? Just watched the first three and I have to say I was impressed.

I guess the whole idea of parallel futures works for me, it's certainly less confusing than the flashbacks and flash-forwards from previous seasons. It's good to see Charlie making a reappearance as well.

I'm looking forward to seeing where this takes us and I do hope they finish off the final season well.
