  1. Thanks, looking forward to hearing how you get on with them, I really enjoyed them.
  2. Definitely going to get onto this one soon. Anyway, I just finished The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle which has taken me much longer to read than I thought, although certainly not through lack of enjoyment. I'll just copy and paste my thoughts from my reading blog as they sum up my thoughts nicely. Thoughts: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's first set of Sherlock Holmes stories, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is a great selection of twelve cases where the genius detective and his friend John Watson, explore a series of mysterious and crimes that all at first appear perplexing. Not to Holmes of course, whose incredible deductions from the smallest of clues, continue to amaze all those about him. He tackles cases of missing thumbs and of missing indentities, disappearing people and people who just wish they could disappear, by the time Holmes is through with them. In all but one case he is in a league of his own. 'A Scandal In Bohemia' shows us the story of the woman Miss Irene Adler, an even more intriguing character who by all accounts is someone in who Sherlock Holmes has met his match. All in all then a great collection of stories, amusingly witty and clever, of which 'A Scandal In Bohemia', 'The Adventure of the Red-Headed League', 'The Adventure of the Speckled Bard', and 'The Five Orange Pips' were my favourites. I'll be definitely looking out for Holmes adventures soon. 5/5.

  4. Nobody that quite enjoys it like me. I mean, being literature students there are a fair few that obviously enjoy reading (otherwise it wouldn't have made much sense to chose the course). Although then I find a remarkable amount of people that aren't interested in reading the books for the course. I guess it's just different levels of enthusiasm, like anything else really. In any case, my exams finished yesterday so I should have some more books read/reviews posted in the coming days.

    Sherlock

I've really enjoyed this series, I thought as usual it was well-acted and well-scripted, and I thought the finale was utterly brilliant. In any case, good old Moffat announcing on Twitter that they commissioned series three at the same time as series two (I believe his direct words involved 'gotcha' ), ensures us of the fact that we're not quite done with this awesome tv series just yet. Yay!
  6. Right that's it, I am reading some Fforde this year. All I've heard is great things and he sounds brilliant, so I'm not putting it off any longer. This also sounds brilliant, so it's going on the wishlist - thanks Chrissy.
  7. This sounds great, I might have to add it to the wishlist. As for the migraine I hope you're feeling better now.
  8. Exams over and done with, I'm literally going to sit inside and read all day today as a reward.

Thanks folks! Grr, I'm sure I set some sort of notification to update me when people commented on this - sorry for missing the posts. :( I won't have any idea of results for a couple of weeks at least I would imagine. :) x

  9. I only decided to start reading the full set after I'd already read Hound of the Baskervilles otherwise I would have done it in order too. As for Pedro, well, I knew it was a bad idea putting him near my books - all the attention is on him. Well Frankie knows best. Well that's seemingly a good enough incentive for me, I can't resist the envelope. Haha, that's probably true, but it does rain over here a lot so it will come in use eventually.
  10. I'm 18.. honest.
  11. Hehe I knew someone would comment on the panda. His name is Pedro and my grandma got him from China so he's a long way from home.
  12. Thought I'd upload a photo of how my books are looking in my snug room at university (I'm still trying to persuade my dad to put shelves are but the wall is weak). Anyway, here's what I've done with the place. All my 'classics' and university books are stacked up behind my laptop as you can see. Of the four draws on the right as you see it, three of them are full with books, and the vast majority of the filing cabinet on the right is too. I have done my best.
  13. This sounds rather fascinating, might have to add to it to the wishlist, so thanks Vinay.
  14. Went to the cinema this week and caught The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Brilliant work from Fincher and the cast. Daniel Craig but in a very good performance and Rooney Mara was absolutely amazing as Lisbeth. You could see how much she'd absorbed herself into the role of the character.
  15. Oh Frankie, you're convincing nobody but yourself.
  16. That sounds like a good premise, as I've often wondered how Darcy would have perceived everything. I'm adding this to my wishlist too, Frankie, thanks.
  17. This one sounds fascinating, I await your thoughts!
  18. Thanks Pickle, I'm sure I will enjoy - they're great little stories. Ah that's a shame that it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been and that it dragged a little. I love the titles, part of the fun is being intrigued by what the titles could possibly mean. Aha, it's probably sensible not setting a time-scale. 'A Scandal in Bohemia' and 'The Adventure of the Red-Headed League' are two of my favourites. I was completely at loss with where the second one was heading; it was such a bizarre plot to start with.
  19. Oh well that's okay then. I've pretty much just accepted the fact the TBR will go up not down this year, that way I don't set myself up for disappointment. Oh Frankie, this is just too kind. I'm kidding, what on earth are you trying to do to me? I couldn't possibly attempt this.. could I? Hmm, well, maybe, there's always room for more challenges. In all serious though, that's actually a pretty good challenge, I've never properly taken part with the Reading Circle but I've followed the books that have been read and there are always great choices. I might see if I can have a shot at making a list when I have more time. Not sure if I'm still quite sure this is a good thing though.
  20. The first one is one of the ones I most want to read, Conan Doyle himself listed it as his favourite. What were your thoughts on A Study in Scarlet? I think that's the one I'm going read next.
  21. Just receieved another two books from Amazon for university, which means the TBR increases ever more.. Deadlock. - Sarah Paretsky Zastrozzi. - Percy Bysshe Shelley Don't know much about these but they both sound interesting - which is more than I can say about most of the books I had to read for university.
  22. I must say I am envious of anyone that lives in Italy. Anyway, welcome to BCF.
  23. Hey, welcome to BCF. If you've come here for discussion and to meet new people you've definitely come to the right place. Although I think it's only fair that someone warns you about the fact that there is a good chance you will be adding a lot more books to 'to be read' list.
