I think a lot of people on here would say the same thing.

Slow going with The Bones of Avignon but I am enjoying it so I'm not sure why it's taking so long. Will persevere at any rate.

Making at least some progress with The Count of Monte Cristo. Just another thousand or so pages to go.

Read another hundred or so pages of Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo last night, merely another thousand or so to go.

As far as I'm aware she's just referred to as the 'late' Irene Adler because she disappears at the end of the story, out of his life. I think that's just the term he uses to describe the fact that she is now gone, not sure it's an insinuation that she's died or anything like that.

Classy act from England in the first test against the West Indies (started yesterday). Bowled them out for 243 with Stuart Broad picking up a good seven-wicket haul. Now Strauss proving some of the critics wrong with a patient 111 not out thus far. We just lost KP for 32 but it's 245-3 and a lead of two runs with about half an hour left of play on day two.

Urgh I shouldn't be buying more books but I really want to.

Current books on the go. So at the moment I'm reading a review book entitled The Bones of Avignon by Jefferson Bass, and for my summer 2012 classics challenge I'm reading The Count of Monte Cristo by of course Alexandre Dumas. The latter of which I'm quite certain will be an ongoing read for a little while at least.

This next decision came partly out of frustration for not being able to read To Kill a Mockingbird and partly because I fancy giving myself a bit of a challenge. I'm now starting Alexandre Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo. I have my edition down at 1,243 pages, so I'll be back next year when I'm done. In all seriousness I'm really looking forward to this, got about halfway last time I tried but that was because of lack of time, so much better chance this time around.

Here's my review for Lethal by Sandra Brown. Very enjoyable thriller with a ferocious pace. 4/5.

If you want my personal opinion you should do something centred around Irene Adler. It was done in the film quite well but I've always thought there was excellent scope for new material focused on here. She's such a great character and yet only appears in 'A Scandal in Bohemia'. Of course it's up to you but just thought I'd make a suggestion.

I bought the book earlier in the year and have had it sat waiting for me on the TBR. Sounds like I'll have a shot at watching the film too. I just spent a pleasant hour and a half watching Due Date. Wasn't amazing but with Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis it's bound to have at least a few laughs to keep me entertained.

Ahh, I can't believe this. Loaded To Kill a Mockingbird on my Kindle to find that the line-spacing is all wrong to the extent that I won't be able to read it all the way through. I've checked the Kindle store but can't find any other versions. I'd order the physical copy but can't at the moment, so for the time being it looks like I'll had to put it aside.

Read for the best part of the night and through today to rattle through the almost five hundred pages of Sandra Brown's novel Lethal. I can't remember the last time I read in such long stints and that speaks volumes for the novel's ferocious pace. I thought it was a rip-roaring page-turner which kept surprising me with twists and turns right until the end. Excellent. Now moving on to The Bones of Avignon by Jefferson Bass, which was kindly sent to me my Quercus books.

First of all, happy belated birthday, hope you had a great day. Aww, I read the synopsis thinking ooh this sounds fascinating, just to find out it's not worth it. Moving on. This sounds similar to Rebecca and right up my street, will keep an eye on this one. This one sounds great too, another one to look at, uh-oh. I enjoyed The Hunger Games so this one looks like it would be a great read. I should have escaped from this thread while I had a chance, looks like you've had some fantastic reads!

Your best idea would be to download some of the free stories and write something based around one or two of them. Like Ian said you can get them all on Project Gutenburg, or there's a lot of free stories available on Kindle from Amazon. I believe the complete collection is only 0.77p, but you can get free collections such as The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and The Return of Sherlock Holmes. Best of luck with the competition.

I can't remember anyone giving it a bad review really. I mean, we've had 'okay' but never bad, and the majority love it. Ah you should it's fantastic.

Well I must say Lethal is coming along very nicely thus far, seems to be one of those thrillers that get more intriguing with every page turn - and what a page-turner it is. It has a ferocious pace and although it's nearly five hundred pages I can see them scuttling away in no time at all.

I wouldn't think that at all. I've never read it no. Thanks for offering but if it's really short I may be best picking it up myself rather than you having to take the time to send it out. No way. I can't believe I didn't know that, thanks Kell. Well I guess I can see what I think of it and get back to you. Being a short story if I don't like it I won't have wasted too much time.
