  1. Oh well it'll be interesting to see what we think of the 2nd half - when we get there -

  2. Well I did think it would be a book that would really grab me and draw me in, but alas this is not to be and I am finding it quite slow going. How far are you through? I'm almost half way through and am hoping it starts to develop into something I'll enjoy more.

  3. Well it may be a cure for you. Could you borrow an audiobook from the library as a trial? I just find my mind drifts far to easily onto some trivia and I can become too easily lost in my own thoughts. I'm not sure why that is as I can listen to talk shows on radio and follow them fine. I suppose one possibility is that books read tend to not have lots and lots of emotion and so it's easier to switch off. I can listen to them but it takes me to be in a certain way. I certainly find actual reading easier for retaining the information.

I am certainly enjoying Broken Window and I am determined to finish it this year!

  4. Oh yes and I mustn't lose anymore or I may disappear! But thank you for your support.

Good on Kookie for wanting a job :D - my daughter now has 2 jobs for the summer and with training with the athletics club and learning to surfboard and competing at athletics and finding time for her art homerwork she has quite a busy time. At least she hasn't had too much time to complain of being bored this summer. I think in general teens are great and I don't why people can complain about them so much. I know there will always be a few that spoil things but in general I've not met many that I can't get along with. Kids are great and ours do seem pretty good!

I remember you pointing me in the direction of The Rosary Girls and I have picked this up but have not got to it yet. Erica Spindler rings a bell but don't believe I've read any as yet. Another name to add to my growing wishlist pile. It will have to come from the library though. I'm determined not to buy more books for the moment.

  5. You're welcome! :friends0:

I read mostly crime and thriller too with a mix of other stuff inbetween. I like Jeffery Deaver too - I've read quite a few of his standalones and about the first five of the Lincoln Rhyme series. I'm listening to one on audio at the moment - The Broken Window, but even listening to that I keep finding my concentration wandering and then I keep having to go back to find out what I have missed!:lol:

  6. My mojo was great for July but has really deserted me for August. We do need these gripping books to bring it back at times. I really can't buy any more books either as my TBR pile is humungous. I've decided any 'must have reads' should definitely come from the library for the moment. Hope our mojos are back soon. What genre do you find yourself reading mostly?

  7. Not too bad thanks.

No I agree the first 2 were most definitely the best, but I still enjoyed the third, although it was odd that his friend the dp was absent so much of it and I'll certainly be interested to see where the 4th goes. Have you read that yet? :)

  8. I'm not brave enough at the moment to try chips - the positive is I've lost half a stone without trying!

Yeah I've enjoyed Dexter so far although I didn't enjoy the third book as much as the first or second, but I still have the 4th to come - so something to look forward to I hope.

No I've not read any MacBride either but like you I heard that he was good. Have you read any Ian Rankin and his Rebus series? - I only tried one and didn't find it to be to my taste. Not sure what I'm missing that others see.

Emma irons too - but only her stuff - :lol I can imagine that when she has a house she'll be very houseproud and I won't be allowed over the doorstep without being vaccuumed first. Anyway well done to Kookie - Is she keeping well? - not spoke to her for a few days.

  9. Hi Genevieve - I just wanted to say I love your way with words. Whenever I read a post that you have written it always makes my load feel a little lighter. Thank you! :friends0:

  10. Hiya

I will be putting Dex back in the post to you over the next couple of days.

Thanks so much for letting me borrow it - it was great! :)

  11. Oh poor you! I've been given anti-hitamines too. Trying to find out what I'm allergic too and it's looking like it could include potatoes - no more chips!:cry2:

You're in good company with the mojo - last month I was on a roll but this month it's note really happening. I'm trying to get through December by Elizabeth H Winthrop - I thought it would keep me on a roll, but nevermind! I suppose you will get back on track when the next Dexter arrives - when will that be?

I've got Broken Skin by Stuart Macbride on my TBR pile. Read any of his before Cold Granite - or is that your first?

Does Kookie keep her own room clean? I must admit my daughter Emma is a bit fanatical about keeping her room tidy - shame she's not that way over the rest of the house!

  12. Not bad in general, just some weird allergy problem that needs sorting otherwise OK.

Your profile seems nicely laid back and chilled- I like it! Talking of which - your house is gorgeous and your youngsters bedrooms - what can I say but Wow! Soooo Tidy!

What ya reading at the moment?

  13. Yeah good luck with the new job do you have time off before it starts or does one run into the other? - I hope it all works out well! Have fun tonight too.

I am in the process of sussing out what I allergy I may actually have - it's possibly to do with allergens in the air at this time of the year being similar to some food proteins or something- it's all very confusing at the moment, but I have an inkling that I have a problem with all cereals, potatoes, apples and bananas; the latter 3 have made my throat swell and the cereals seem to be causing very quick reacting acid reflux. Got 2 hospital appts so will take it from there. It is a pain though.:motz:

Cheers Mac - I've not read any Henning Mankell although I have heard of him. Which would you suggest I start with? Not that I need to add anymore to my overflowing TBR pile!:D

  14. Hiya Mac

Doing OK thanks (apart from some weird allergy thing!!) No I've not read the latest Myron one and haven't even got it yet - but I will at some point. I'm going to read them in order, but other books keep getting in the way at the moment.

    How's life for you? :)

  15. Hi Charm

    How's life treating you? :D

  16. Hi :)

I notice you're reading The secret life of the dyslexic child - What do you think to it? My daughter has been tested for dyslexia twice as she seems to show many symptoms of this but she has not been officially diagnosed. As she is now 15 school life has been difficult for her as she's an intelligent girl and she hasn't understood why she couldn't keep up with her peers. Fortunately the school where she is now certainly seem to be getting the best from her.

  17. Welcome back! Sounds like you had a super holiday! It sounds like just the sort of holiday I would appreciate. Oh and I hope the heating isn't having to go on for too long. I'm not quite as far north as you and I've found I've had to put a jumper on too many times in July!

  18. Fine here thanks! :) - Oh lucky you - 6 glorious weeks off! I hope you get your enthusiasm back :readingtwo:- I've been on a roll this month and have been eating books, but for the rest of this year I haven't been in true reading mode - it can be so annoying when you either can't concentrate, or just can't get into a book - I know, with me, it's usually because I have other issues on my mind! Will catch you later. Happy hols! :D

  19. Hi pipread

I will be startting the third Dexter book shortly - I thought I'd have a little break and then come back to him. Thoroughly enjoyed the second book though!

    Are you keeping well? :)

  20. Well I'm back again. Sorry that you're still bored. Will your friends be back from holiday soon? How long are you off from school? I have just collected Emma and she has just advised me she's off for 7 weeks and even though she'll be working for some of it she is not looking forward to it! We're not off anywhere this year and so that won't break it up either.

  21. Today I've been to work, then dropped my daughter off at work and I'm just about to phone my mum and then I've got to pick my daughter up and then hopefully if I'm not online I'll get a little reading done.

  22. I see you're reading the Twilight series. I've not picked up any of those yet. I'm reading a Charlaine Harris novel at the moment - I've only just started it but it looks like it's going to be good.

  23. Then you'll be a smart Kookie!

  24. I've turned into my mum too! I think it happens to all of us at some point!
