  1. Amazon Synopsis When FBI Agent Smoky Barrett and her team of investigators are called in by the Director himself to handle a case of murder committed on a flight from Texas to Virginia, the case begins with a shock, and the twists keep coming. It soon becomes apparent that Smoky is dealing with a serial killer who appears to have committed a truly horrific number of murders already, someone who can find people with secrets not just the secrets we all admit to ourselves, but the deepest, innermost secrets of all and is using them to target and destroy his victims. The case is on the edge of going public, and when that happens, with all the accelerated power of the Internet behind it, public hysteria is not far behind. Just at the time when she is working so hard to bring up her adopted daughter Bonnie, Smoky is now under the most intense pressure of her career to get results. Yet the team has never been faced with such an apparently insoluble problem. Who will the next victim be? Everyone in the world has secrets. Even Smoky. My Thoughts This is the first book by McFadyen for me and I was gripped from the very beginning. I loved the characters that he has created and felt I got to know them and understood what was going on in their heads. Smoky, the main character has a traumatic background with some harrowing history but is dealing with her demons the best she can. Murders are being committed in their hundreds and the only link is that all the victims had a dark secret that they had shared with someone. How the killer accesses this information is a mystery that Smoky needs to unravel. Yet she has a secret that she
  2. Hi there from Hertfordshire, England. Nice to meet you.

    Karen/kehs

  3. Hi Rod . . . and you said I get around! Lol!

  4. I have shelves saved especially for faery books, fantasy, books in books and anything about beading and jewellery. I also collect proofs and old books. I am a fan of secondhand bookstores and charity shops so often pick up bargain books, and as a result I now have a huge TBR pile which is housed in my book shed.
  5. I read whenever and wherever I can. I always have a book with me and even read while waiting in queues. I am a sales assistant so get to read in between customers but have to stop myself from tutting if they interrupt me during a particularly great chapter.
  6. I am desperately seeking Memories of the Marsh by Betsy Stanley. It's a gypsy memoir and the reason I would love to own this is because FIL and his brother are mentioned in it. Also would love to get my peepers on In Turkey I am Beautiful by Brendan Shanahan, because a friend recommended it to me but I'm having trouble finding a copy.
  7. Ideas for Old Books This link might be useful, Andy.
  8. Oooh, nor can I!
  9. Another Black Book fan! I actually met a Bernard Black wannabee the other day. He has a second-hand bookstall on Cambridge market. He was actually shouting at browsers and telling them to leave if they weren't buying. Also, I heard him tell a customer off for putting a book back in the wrong place. It's been my daughter's dream for years to have her own bookstore. She's currently 17 and choosing her uni at the moment. I'll tell her about your friend and her success at achieving her dream.
  10. Bookless!? I'm hypervenitlating on your behalf! I have to confess that I am the proud owner of a book shed that houses all my overflow TBR piles. I have no idea how many books are in it. Most are charity shop buys because I just can't resist a book bargain.
  11. thank you. I did have a great day. It was made even better by everyone here making me feel so welcome.:)

  12. That's so cool. That's a neat skill. My daughter used to do mirror writing when she was 4. It only lasted for a few months and then just stopped doing it. I love this thread! 1 I collect proof copies of books and love reading advance copies. 2 I believe in faeries. 3 I passed my driving test over 20 years ago but only ever drove once and vowed never to again. 4 My FIL is a Romany but has been a house dweller since he got married. 5 I was once homeless for almost a year.
  13. I've been trying to read one classic each month. June's read was The Picture of Dorian Gray. It took me while to get into but after halfway I was hooked.
  14. Synopsis from Amazon A winter's tale with a sting. There's a newcomer to the small Northumberland village of Haydon . a charming novelist and film buff, researching a crime thriller about a serial killer on a rampage in a remote Northumberland community. The only trouble is, it's a work in progress and it's going to be non-fiction. 392 innocent men, women and children stand in his way to achieving a sadistic dream. As the worst winter in more than a century approaches, can two investigating police officers trapped with the terrorised residents stop this monster? My Thoughts Wow! A terrifying blood and gore thriller that will really give the reader pause for thought
  15. thank you. I had a lovely day just lazing around . . . reading, eating chocolate and relaxing. Heavenly!

  16. Well, you've got a year or so to get reading it, but once you do you'll wonder why you left it so long. It's a fab read . I didn't know it was going to be a trilogy. I wonder how long we'll wait for the third?
  17. I'm going to look out for Edgar too.
  18. I've pre-ordered a copy but will indeed have a long wait until June next year. All good things are worth waiting for though. If only I could read Spanish.
