  1. For me Day of the Triffids remains one of the definitive 'end of world' scenario books. I doubt you will find better anywhere. I am always surprised that Hollywood haven't really picked up on the story. After all, they did it with War of the Worlds.
  2. I've read and enjoyed most of Tom Sharpe's work and enjoyed them. In partilcular, I enjoyed the Wilt series although I confess to being disappointed by his last outpouring - Wilt in Nowhere.
  3. Not sure how many I have read this year to be honest, but I would guess about 40. There have been a number of highlights during that period that I particularly enjoyed: Ben Elton - The First Casualty Sebastian Faulks - Birdsong Benjamin Zephaniah - Face Melvyn Bragg - The Soldier's Return On my shelf and looking promising future reads: A.L. Kennedy - Day Peter Carey - The Illegal Self
