  1. Way back before I was born, in 1963, William Hartnell's Doctor had a granddaughter - Susan, so it makes sense that he had a child, how else do you get to be a grandparent? I wasn't expecting the cloning/whatever thing though, and I'd love to see her come back at some point. But but but (pedant alert) Why did she not regenerate fully?
  2. To me, yes, I'm a pedant. Redesigns are fine, mostly an improvement. But this was silly. Looking forward to next weeks though.
  3. Watched Dr Who confidential - they were taller....
  4. It was the height and the "short" jokes that made me frown tbh. The sontarans were always stocky, they come from a high grav world, but I don't remember them being so short they were made a joke of.
  5. Now I've met Tom Baker and he's TALL, I don't remember him towering over sontarans and making shorty jokes.
  6. and why are the sontarans so short? I'm sure they weren't that short before?

    Hiya!

Inver my lovely! How the devil are you?
  9. The liveship traders stands alone I think. It's a separate story, although there are links in it to the Farseer stories. I loved these 3 trilogies but haven't enjoyed the Soldier son books. I do like her writing as Megan Lindholm as well.
  10. Oh and my own characters.... I adore Kate and Lily, can't stand Sam, she drives me nuts.
  11. Love Pern and Discworld. I do love Fitz from Robin Hobb's Assassin series, then again in the Tawny man series and referred to in the Liveship series. He's such a paranoid, self destructive idiot but loveable too, and then right at the end you find out why he's such a twonk. Minerva McGonagall in Harry Potter - she's ace too. The bit in the last book where she think's Harry is dead just made me cry.
  12. Dammit, must go back to the library, get it out and read it again..... Tess, huge huge thanks for being here, you've made my day (several times)
  13. Well, the month is almost over. Tess, I must say I've been thrilled to be reading your replies here, and can I second the request that you stick around and pop into this forum in the future?
  14. Absolutely! Tell Pilot! Paper - loose sheets? Lined? Plain? Notebook? Hardback? Softcover? Tell us more about this writing with a pen malarkey? Just got the Bone Garden from my local library so I can take it on holiday and be antisocial with my nose in a good book!
  15. Hi Tess! Not a question really, but more of a comment and a thank you. Last summer I had some health problems and was laid up recovering for a couple of months. I was bored stiff, unable to do much and someone gave me a copy of The Mephisto Club to read. I don't do crime thrillers really, but I read it anyway. Blimey! I'm hooked! I love the way you write, I adore the Rizzoli/Isles series. So, thank you for entertaining me during my recuperation. And a question - What sort of pen do you use? I notice you write longhand rather than type. I prefer to type as I can read it that way! But when I do write anything longhand I prefer a fountain pen. What's your writing implement of choice?

    Hiya!

Ones with words in! I read loads and I have 3 categories that I split my reading into. 1. Information - if I want to find out something I'll find a book on it. 2. Gripping, really involved stuff - the sort of book I can't put down, the sort of book I talk to saying "You can't do that! S/He can't die yet!" and other loud comments, I love fantasy, sci fi and things a bit skewed from *normal* I did recently discover Tess Gerritsen and I adore her Maura Isles/Jane Rizzoli books and I do shout at those as I read. Vanish had me in tears reading it. 3. Mindless pap. This is what I read when I'm working. It's often TV novelisations or short lightweight books that don't take much brainspace. This is what I read when I need to calm down and sleep. Hope that makes sense for you!

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I'll be dipping my toe in the water over the next couple of days. Sarah
