  1. I loved this book, I thought it was really good. The suspense really builds throughout the book, I couldn't work out the ending at all and thought it was a brilliant ending. At least it wasn't all a dream :cry2: The only slight critisism I have is that its obvously written for the yanks, and some of the use of language spoilt it a bit, but all in all a brilliant story and a good read. Quite scary in places so not one for those of a nervous disposition really :) 9 out of 10

  2. Oi Prospero I thought you were keeping out of it ? I think its hugely insulting to post an opinion like that. Although I agree everyone is entitled to an opinion - some should be kept to oneself. My Nan is 90 this year and she has not had it easy. Reading has been her escape and to say that her choice of author shows her limitations is cobblers. She like those books because they offer her an alternative to her own life. A bit of glitz, I suppose. I am not a huge chick lit fan - although I dont dislike the genre. Its just not too everyones taste is all. I wouldn't dream of accusing the hoards of chick lit fans of being simple because they like those books. I think Kitty is mistaken in her opinion, and should remember not to generalise so quickly in the future. Rant Over, thank you and goodnight

  3. I absolutely refuse to read chick-lit. As a teenager I read a lot of Danielle Steele just for something to read and chill out to during my studies, but I wouldn't touch her now with a barge pole. These books, I think, are for people of limited reading ability and limited imagination. For people who can not go beyond what is typed on the page to what the author may be suggesting through metaphors, similies etc. I lose patience with such books very quickly indeed!

 Well thats unfair, my Nan loves Danielle Steele books and I object to the inference that my Nan is "limited" How very dare you :D

  4. Stu Redman, Tom Cullen, Nick Andros and Larry Underwood - The Stand

    Claire and Jamie Fraser.

Simon Snowlock - Memory, sorrow and thorn series

Ayla and Jondalar - Earth Children

    Eddie & Susanna Dean

    Jack and Oy

Roland all from the Dark Tower Series

    Bridget Jones

Hermione, Ron, Harry, Mr & Mrs Weasley, Dumbledore, Hagrid, Neville and Ginny.

Theo Vilmos - War of the Flowers

These ar just a few of the ones I can remember. I usually love the majority of characters in a book, but not all of them stay with me, which maybe a good thing considering the amount I read

  5. Don't you want to smell like Jordan? :Tantrum:

Id rather stick pins in my eyes :irked::hissyfit: She may well be a very clever young lady, but I cannot stand her or her dopey husband. :) I for one will not be reading her "stories" The celebrity culture in this country is just so sad, I dont know anybody who actually gives a toss about these people yet they are forced on us at every turn, TV, books, adverts everywhere, open any newspaper and one of the gormless idiots is in there. I just do not care about these people and am not interested in their lives, and it galls me that every where I look they are being shoved at me. An awful lot of them are highly talentless and that really does not help matters. So my question is Who decides they are celebrities? as I said no one I know is bothered, so who is???

  6. That must be so galling for struggling authors. It certainly doesn't seem fair. I am so totally uninterested in the "celebrity" culture in this country. I dont even buy a newspaper anymore because of all the **** in them about these spoilt, pretentious idiots. I did wonder who this Coleen person was and how come her face seems to be plastered all over everything hmm now I know. Pretty enough girl and she seems to have her head screwed on, but what on earth does she see in potato face? Must be the lure of pound notes eh? Still its not fair and I wont be buying any of the books because I just dont care !

  7. Carrie is a good one, and maybe a familiar story also Christine is not that shabby either. I love all Stephen Kings books (except Geralds Game ) Insomnia, Bag of Bones, The Green Mile the list goes on and on. You could try The Stand as it is fantastic but as has been said before it is a monster ! I would give Desperation and The Regulators a miss as first reads although if you develope a taste for SK I can recommend them !

  8. Tom Cullen is a great character, so is Nick ----- Well they all are, there is not a duff one in the whole book, even the baddies  Stu is my favourite tho Gary Sinese played a blinder in the mini series. Unfortunatley they had Molly Ringwald playing Frannie and that spoilt her for me cos even now I still hear her whiney voice when I read the book !!!! Dunno who decided that was a good idea, but they had not read the book !
