  1. Snap, made a huge pot yesterday so lots left over. No egg tonight though but some peas and spring greens. Yummy Have you noticed though how much a tin of corned beef has gone up though? A few weeks ago it was 69p at Asda, yesterday I paid 1.18

  5. So far my son (9) has read the first three books in the series. At first he found Wolf Brother a bit hard going because he felt the characters were not introduced very well but he got to like it once the story unfolded. His favourite was Soul Eater. He thought that in Soul Eater the characters had a lot more adventures than in the first two volumes. We were not aware that there are two more books to this series as we believed it to be a trilogy, so a trip to the libray will be inevitable in the next few days (just another excuse to go really ). x
  6. I'm sorry, I did not mean to imply that you were wrong. It was just a thought as rose hip tea is very popular over in Germany. x
  7. Please correct me if I am wrong but could it be that you confuse rooibus (redbush) tea with rose hip tea ? We used to drink that a lot in Germany as cooled down it tastes a bit like pop without the sugar and fizzyness. Up until two years ago I never ever heard of Rooibus tea. I used to love the rose hip tea but can't stand Rooibus tea unless it is the Tetley's vanilla version which is quite nice. x
  8. Well, I can assure you Morecambe is nothing like Muenster but has become home . Next time you visit England you should consider coming further north. We are just on the doorstep of the magnificent Lake District and not too far from the Scottish border. Northumberland is also beautiful and of course we are only a few stonethrows away from the Yorkshire Dales etc. Never been to Hamburg but my daughter has just been to Rendsburg on a schoolexchange which I believe is not that far away (could be wrong though )and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to getting to know you.
  9. Uhhhh, my idea of heaven. From what I have seen on the website the whole store looks delightful. Shame I am too far away from Bath otherwise I would 'make' hubby treat me, too. On the other hand, if I would live nearby I probably would never be out of the store so maybe it's a good thing that I don't. Had to have a giggle about the 'bath and girl not included' reference beneath one of the pictures on the spa site. I hope you have a fantastic time and I think you have a very thoughtful husband x
  10. Hi und Hallo Nice to see a fellow German join this site. I am originally from Muenster, NRW, but have lived in the UK for about 15 years. Would be great to get to know you . x
  11. Sounds very funny and something that can be dipped in and out of but unfortunatly, after a brief search, I have been unable to locate it over here . But maybe that's just me. Thanks though Susanne x
  12. I had not heard of David Sedaris before but the reviews he has got on amazon for his books certainly speak in his favour. 'Me Talk Pretty One Day' in particular sounds very funny. Thanks for the suggestion.
  13. Hi all Didn't know whether to post this in the quiz section or in the main forum, but as it is a one off I thought I would put it here. Apologies if it's wrong . My daughter has to solve a small number of catchphrases in order to win a small prize at school. She has done all except one - we just can't decide on an answer . So I thought I would ask you what you think the answer is. The catchphrase is: HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE HOUSE Thanks for having a go Susanne x
  14. I know that strictly speaking they are kids' books which I usually enjoy reading but after reading five of the Series of Unfortunate Events I gave up. The endless 'this is not a happy story' and the 'oh look its Olaf, this time disguised as whatever' were getting on my nerves. Actually, this happened after the third book already but I thought I persevere. Anyway, I gave up in the end but to be fair, my daughter has read them all and thinks they are great! Maybe I am just too old for kids' books .
  15. Thanks everybody for all your input. I had a quick browse on Amazon and I think I will actually read the books you suggested myself . Whilst looking I came across the Zombie Survival Guide. Apparently this guy is deadly serious (or at least appears to be) about how to defend yourself in case of a zombie endemic Maybe he knows something we don't ??
  16. Which one in particular would you recommend? Have you read Born to Be Riled? Just looked it up on Amazon and it sounds quite funny. Susanne x
  17. I wonder if anybody could recommend a really funny read for a man? My lovely brother-in-law is serving in Afghanistan at the moment and obviously having a rough time. I want to send him a good book which he can pick up whenever he gets time and read when it suits. I thought of maybe buying him the new Peter Kay book as it did get quite good reviews. I am looking for something really funny, also bearing in mind that he is not really a book reader. Which book(s) would you recommend?
  18. My favourite place has to be in the bath. On Sunday evenings I indulge myself with a hot bubble bath with candles (in winter, not the same in summer) and a bottle of white and of course a book. Everybody at home knows that this is 'me' time and dad is in charge. Needless to say I take full advantage and have been known to stay in there for a long long time. Bed has to be the second favourite place, usually because by that time the kids are tucked in and there is some peace. To my shame I have been known to tell hubby not to bother coming up to bed for at least an hour as I am reading . Another favourite place used to be my old recliner chair - it was sooooo comfy but eventually I had to part with it because the whole suite got too tacky. Still regret not getting another suite with recliner. Apart from that everywhere is a good place to read
  19. Thanks everyone for your lovely welcome . More bookshelves??? Help, I will need a bigger house (either that or sell one of the children - or hubby, but he won't fetch much- on ebay. I used to buy most of the books but when the children came along I couldn't really justify the expense anymore. I still buy the odd one but not very often. Thank god for libraries, although nothing can beat a brand new book, especially a hardback. Right, better be off to explore the forum - it looks like there is a lot going on here Thanks again everybody Susanne x
  20. Hello everybody :sign0144:Just stumbled across this site and as this looks like a very friendly place I thought I would get comfy here if nobody minds. I guess just like everybody else on here I love reading, no make that I am passionate and addicted to reading . Try to read as much as possible, although with three kids I don't get nearly enough time as I would like. I read just about everything, a little bit of this and a little bit of that really. I can't say I have one favourite genre, although if pushed I have to admit that crime/mystery/fantasy/horror are probably top of my list whilst sci-fi usually finds itself on the bottom. I do go to the local library reading group and although the average age is around 70 we do tend to have a good laugh. It never seizes to amaze me how differently people rate books but it forms a great basis for lively discussions. But one book in one months is just not enough so I was looking for somewhere to share my passion of books. Hopefully, being part of this forum, will help to somewhat diversify my reading even more. You know what I mean, pick up a book that has been recommended that I maybe wouldn't pick up otherwise. Anyway, looking forward to getting to know you all!! Susanne
