  1. Happy birthday, Kell - hope you have a wonderful day.

  2. I vote for Union Street! I once saw a film called Stanley and Iris, which was apparently based on that book, and I've always meant to read it but never got round to it. So you can tell me if it's any good
  3. I'm Gonna Run Away From You - Tami Lynn
  4. Nowhere to Run - Martha and the Vandellas
  5. I'll Run Your Hurt Away - Ruby Johnson
  6. Yep, Soul Boy Heaven, that one! It takes me back to rainy Saturday afternoons in London's "Soul City" record shop, many more years ago than I care to remember George David Weiss, who wrote the song, died about a month ago - I was fascinated to learn that among his other songs were The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Can't Help Falling In Love and, most surprisingly of all, Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World. Who'd have thought that the same person who came up with such hammy schmaltz as that one could also produce one of the great soul burners?
  7. Peppermint Twist - Joey Dee and the Starliters
  8. I read a review of Purge in the weekend papers a couple of weeks ago, and put it on my list. It sounds a good one, but perhaps quite intense.
  9. I look forward to your views. I bought it a while back, but haven't got round to it yet. Your words of wisdom could save it from being condemned to languish in a pile of other contenders ....
  10. That sounds interesting, Diane. My wife is something of a dab hand with the quilting, so she may like this.
  11. Feel like something classic now, so I started Huck Finn last night. I'd forgotten what a wonderful book it is - I think I was at primary school last time I read it!
  12. If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot
  13. Hey, happy birthday - have a great day!

  14. I finished Christopher Brookmyre's The Sacred Art of Stealing last night. OK, but I was a bit disappointed really - I was expecting more, given how much I'd heard about him. I just thought it was all a bit contrived.
  15. I Can't Get Next To You - The Temptations
  16. Wigan v Leeds rugby league play-off. Quality entertainment!
  17. Thanks, pickle. Jury's out so far, but to be fair I've onlymanaged the first 90 pages.
  18. Are you still on the committee?

  19. Girls Are Out To Get You - The Fascinations
  20. Started Christopher Brookmyre's The Sacred Art of Stealing last night - just a couple of chapters in.
  21. Happy birthday, Sedge. Not seen you around the Forum recently. How's the football going?

  22. Finished Ashes to Ashes last night - enjoyable light reading. My memory has obviously been playing tricks on me - I'd forgotten we'd won as many as that . Nice gentle humour, very much in the style of Marcus Berkmann's better known Rain Men, with stuff like: The third seamer, playing only his second Test, was the grunting Victorian, Merv Hughes, 'a player we knew little about', wrote Gatting. It's hard now, years later, to imagine a point in your life when you didn't know anything about Merv Hughes. What a state of grace that must have been. Or, as Merv would no doubt say: "****wipe".
  23. Yes thanks, it was really good, and luckily the weather gods smiled on us - it was a lovely summer's night. Some friends saw it a few days ago, and rain stopped play, unfortunately. Sondheim, well done, is about as good as it gets, for me.
