  9. This is a post I found among the ER threads I got Being Emily which makes three in a row, although I haven't got my Feb one yet. Very excited as I have loved both of Donovan's other books. Let's hope I remember the minimum review length is 25 words and don't heave out 250 again! 25 words!!! Can this be true? Off to try and investigate...
  10. A new fave - Matilda from 'Mr Pip'. Courageous, sharp and a teenager sparring with her mum.
  11. however I am glad to have read it as a great piece of literature.
  12. What do you think of it so far?
  13. No - and now you mention it I am getting cross - will hunt out and contact responsible person this weekend.
  14. Hi Karol I roughly new the story of 'Great Expectations' from watching previous BBC dramas as a kid and I don't think I read it then and definitely not as an adult. So I knew about Estella and Miss Havisham and so on. It didn't detract from the story for me at all and I think Andy said the same earlier. That may be different for those who are very familiar with the Dickens novel.
  15. Finishe 'Mr Pip' and onto 'Slam' by Nick Hornby
  16. I have just finished Paula! I have been reading all evening. Have now sussed out the Lol!! My flesh truly crawled and my stomach turned I am finding it harder and harder to read this kind of thing nowadays. I kinda new it was coming but not so suddenly. However I absolutely loved the description of the Islanders and their lives and the whole beginning bit. I feel a review coming on unless anyone else wants to have a go? Does it matter if more than one of us reviews the same book?
  17. Philip - son made home made Strawberry Ice cream yesterday - it is just divine!!
  18. It was meant to be a compliment! She is on LBC radio Sat 11am-2pm - check it out.
  19. No luck for me this time by the look of it - I am also very overdue one book from February
  20. The way you come across to me Prospero (if I may be so bold) is a bit like Jenny Eclair. If you haven't read her I recommend having a look. She has written 2 books
  21. It is a while ago since I read it Prospero but I was thinking about the 'nature vs nurture' debate when raising children and it certainly made me think about my parenting and it's impact on my kids.
  22. Over 100 pages now and I am bothereed by something that doesn't 'fit'. I wonder if anyone can help please. Why is this? Have I missed something. Is it a joke or what? Thanks in advance.
  23. 'We Need to Talk' is excellent especially if you are a parent. 'Book Thief' also excellent. Hmmm....
