Ooh, we're already into the second month! Tell us about your book activity!
My local bookshop has a 20% off sale because they're going to close down for a bit to refurbish the store. So I went in yesterday and bought A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab and Between Us, which is a collection of letters curated by Marieke Hardy and Michaela McGuire.
Today I've been reading Fire and Hemlock. I'm about 250 pages in.

After I read about your problems with the various pens, Frankie, I started Googling 'best pens for BuJos'. I lost hours and hours of time reading about various BuJo things and got more and more excited. I ended up going out and buying a small grid notebook to practice on. I bought it because the paper it used was different and appealing, but later I realised it was too small to really practice anything on, so I went back out and a bought a large, cheap maths book with grids to practice on.
I also bought some Staedtler Triplus Fineliner pens, which seem to be used and recommended by some. I'm still dithering over whether to buy the Leuchtturm 1917, but my birthday is coming up, so I might ask for it as a gift. I know I said I'd wait until next year to start a bullet journal, but this year would be better because I have some big things coming up that require more organisation.
ETA: Frankie, have you received the lettering book in the mail yet?

I just read an article about this project and remembered that I had previously discussed it here. Two and a bit years on, I still find it a very intriguing project! (See the first post in this thread if you have no idea what I'm talking about.)
This article explains more about it from David Mitchell's point of view (he's been chosen as the second author in the project).
And here's a link to the website of the Future Library. It discusses the project and has interesting video interviews with Atwood and Mitchell.

I've started reading Fire and Hemlock by Diana Wynne Jones, which the lovely Frankie gave me for Christmas. I got into it straight way and have read more than 40 pages. I'll have limited time for reading in the next week or so, but I'm sure I'll be making time to read this.

Great review of The City of Mirrors. I have the first two books on my TBR pile, but I find them a little intimidating (just because of their size). Your review makes me optimistic.
I'm sure I read The Machine Stops a few years, but I can't remember a single thing about it. I think I was distracted by other things at the time.

Yes, you definitely have to pay close attention, don't you, Shirley? I watched the first two episodes by myself and then again the following day with a friend. Both times I picked up on things I hadn't noticed the first time.

He must've been young but he totally looked like Logan. Only younger. But not like a 12yo-young. He was playing a high school student. I think he was playing someone who was 16-17 years old or something. I have to google how old the actor is... Okay he was born in 1977 (he looks our age, not -77!! ), so when the series was filmed, he was ... 22-23 Oh wow, he'll be 40 this year!! When he played Logan, he was... 26? Okay, so he is a young face and plays younger-than-he-really-is characters. Wow! He never seems to age, does he? He still has such a boyish face. I love his smile.
I've been watching The L Word lately. I saw a few episodes when it originally aired, and I'd been meaning to watch the rest. Decent show, for the most part.

I finally managed 112, my lowest number since I joined the forum in 2009, but on the whole it was a pretty good year with lots of highly rated reads, so I'm happy with that.
I wish I could read your 'lowest' number every year! I only managed 43 books last year.

Rather than one room at a time, her method is to clean up by category (regardless of how many locations they are all in). She suggests starting with clothing, so if you have clothes in many different places, she says to gather them all up, put them in one pile and go through them one by one (thanking each one as you touch it - I skipped that part.
).Ah yes, I did have to go around the house and collect my piles of clothing together.
And somehow, despite getting rid of so much, there's still a lot hanging around!It's kinda like a Rory book drawer. You know, how she had a drawer and one would expect there's be socks and underwear and tops and what not, but it was filled with books
I once had a Rory drawer... It was fun! I've always wanted a Rory drawer!
And when I read your above post I realised I could probably have one now because when I was Konmari-ing my clothes, I freed up most of the space in my drawers. Maybe I could bring my old BSC books out of hiding and put some in the drawers! I might have to look into some under-bed storage, as there's a whole lot of wasted space under my bed (well, it's Jasper's hiding space when he's scared of outside noises or unknown visitors, but I could leave some room for him). -

I'm with Michelle and Peacefield on preferring physical books, and I'm delighted to hear that paper books are still selling strongly.
I don't think there's any danger of paperbacks being phased out. They'll always be more popular because they're cheaper and easier to carry around.

I would never use Amazon because postage is much too expensive to Australia. Book Depository has free shipping and usually the cheapest books anyway, so that's always my preferred option.
I also use some Australian-based websites.Also, I use an ad-blocker, so I never see referral links. Sorry.

Ben, from what I've read,
the creators are keen to continue with the series. I think it will keep going, but we'll be waiting just as long between series as we are now. I hope it keeps going, anyway!

I really should have read My Brilliant Career by now. It's a classic Australian novel and I'm ashamed to have not read it yet. Also, I believe Miles Franklin once lived in my home town, which is pretty cool!
Do you have a favourite of the Edmund Crispin books? They came to my attention when Poppyshake reviewed The Moving Toyshop, so that's the one I'm most interested to read.
In other book news, my ex's sister gave me a lovely book (belated Christmas present) called All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat (and Then Some). I read it as soon as I got home and it was lovely. It's mostly illustrations with small amounts of text, so it was a quick read.

First off, I want to reiterate what I said on FB: I love it that you have updated your Best Books list, because I've been wanting to ask you if you have any updates.
I'm pleased that you're pleased. Hopefully I'll have a good reading year and be able to add more than one book to the list!!
Second, I love how you've organized the reference links in your first post. It's so tidy and clean and looks great. So much better than mine!
Have you changed it from last year, is it more simple this year? Or am I just imagining things.
Thanks. I've been doing the reference links for at least a couple of years, I think. It might look a bit simpler because I combined some of my TBR lists into longer posts (last year my TBR fiction books were in 9 separate posts; this year they're in 7 posts). I also deleted a couple of the challenge ideas because I didn't do anything about them last year.
Wow at TBR being close to 1500 books. Bow to the master!
I wish! It's actually at 2100, which includes 1428 fiction and 678 non-fiction.
Third, your selected wishlist is so short! Where do you keep the rest of the titles
I culled my overall wishlist recently, but on BCF I only tend to include the books I want the most. Like Poppyshake said on her new blog, I get sick of looking at the same books over and over! My complete wishlist is kept on the Book Depository's site.
Re: priority reads and the book jar: "This is a list of the books I'd most like to read this year. In 2015, I read 20 books (17 fiction, 3 non-fiction) out of the 81 on the list. In 2016, I read 14 books (12 fiction, 2 non-fiction) out of 77 on the list. I haven’t yet added extra books to the list for 2017." That's really well done! I did the book jar thing last year and read 0 (0. As in zero.) books based on what came up from the jar. 0.
LOL. I must admit that I haven't been using my actual book jar to select books. I just choose what I want to read and then later realise that the book was on the list. Most of the books have been on the list for years, so I guess it's inevitable that I'll choose from it without realising.

No worries! It's a bit like our blogs...it's been taking shape over a number of years, so it doesn't seem like much work now.
I also love how you've listed your TBR books according to their being on multiple challenge lists
Makes prioritizing easier, should you want to prioritize!
Now that took me a while to do!! And yes, I love that I can easily check whether a book is on multiple lists. It will make it feel like even more of an achievement if/when I read such books!

Thanks! I really hope I do a better job of keeping them up to date this year. It was a pain in the bum to update the thread this year because I was so far behind with updating! I'm going to try to avoid going to both bookfairs this year. It'll make me really sad on one hand, but on the other it will help me keep my TBR pile down and make it easier to keep my lists updated! -
I've been looking into the notebook prices over here, and an A5 Leuchtturm 1917 costs $40.
I'm thinking I might get one later in the year and give myself plenty of time to set it up for next year.

I'm with you. I don't make resolutions but am going to make the one about reading more and spending less time doing OTHER things! They only get in the way and are of no benefit whatsoever. Extensive reading improves the mind .. we have that on the good authority of Mr Darcy .. and he could never be wrong
I'm going to try and take long muddy walks as well .. can listen to a book at the same time .. win, win! Hope you have a very Happy 2017 Kylie! Looking forward to reading your blog and catching up with the books you've read/bought and seeing pics of your library etc. I might have time to read a book after that!
Thanks Kay! My library is quite a mess at the moment and I haven't been able to fix it up because it's too hot to spend much time upstairs, where most of my books are.
This heat just zaps my will to do anything and go anywhere. But once it gets cooler I look forward to organising my books a bit better. Yay for another reading log! I look forward to see pictures of your library.

Having so many books on the go is not intentional! I've had problems with my reading mojo for a while, and then I get excited about other books on my TBR pile, so I keep starting new ones before I finish others.
This year I'm going to try to finish some of the books that I've been dragging my heels about reading. -
I finished reading Broadmoor Revealed a few days ago and I'm now around halfway through Round the Christmas Fire. Last night I read a short and humorous book that I received for Christmas, called All I Need to Know I Learned from My Cat (and Then Some).
