  1. Wow, this came as a surprise.
  2. Ooh, I'll have to keep an eye out for this one. I love Vivien Leigh!
  3. I went shopping last night and was browsing the icecream selection. I don't ever buy tubs of icecream usually but when I saw a new mint choc chip flavour out I couldn't resist! Yummmm!
  4. Peppermint choc chip Although I used to always get the rainbow coloured icecream when I was young.
  5. Wow, you're doing well, Lopeanha! What did you think of Bryson's Down Under? Is it accurate? And I'm also interested in your views on Winter by John Marsden. I'm a big Marsden fan but haven't read this book.

    Hi !

Hi Damian and welcome to the forum!
  7. No one who had ever seen Catherine Morland in her infancy, would have supposed her born to be an heroine. Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
  8. Hooray! I'll have to track down the Muppet's version to watch as well. And I have fond memories of watching The Jetson's version of it as well. I'd love to see that again.
  9. to the forum, Susan!

    Hello

Hello and welcome! What do you like to read?
  12. Thanks Doctor Nellie. I just may need some more therapy tomorrow
  13. That explains why I bought two books last Friday when I was having a stressful day! Now I don't need to feel guilty about it (not that I ever did )
  14. We have very similar tastes in reading, Paul! You're more well-read than me, but I have most of those books either on my TBR pile or on my wish list. I hope you don't mind me butting in with a few recommendations... If you've enjoyed the Dickens' that you've read so far, then I'd recommend Great Expectations. I have a few others of his on my TBR pile and am looking forward to getting into them. I've read Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky which I found challenging but ultimately an excellent book. And then there are the classic horror works such as Dracula by Bram Stoker and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, both of which I thought were brilliant reads. I also think that you might appreciate the works of Vladimir Nabokov (Pnin or Lolita are probably your best starting points).
  15. Definitely! I love just looking at them
  16. I'm very intimidated by Moby Dick. It sounds like quite a daunting read but I'd like to try it one day...
  17. Beautiful! I posted a link to a pic of my bookshelves on my blog a little while ago. Not sure if you saw it but here's the link. I crammed in an extra couple of bookshelves on the two large bookcases so I could fit more books.

  20. Ooh, I love the colours you've got going here!

The cycling is great. In three days I had a flat tyre, a minor fall and some severe sunburn but other than that I'm really enjoying it! I haven't been able to go out for the past few days though because I've been getting home late and I don't have any lights for my bike yet.

Wow, triathlons! I admire people who can do those. I'm far too lazy and unfit.

I'm flattered that you would ask my opinion! I was in JB Hi-Fi the other day and they had some music playing that was so interesting that I went to the trouble of asking what it was. I'm not sure if it will be up your alley, but it's by CW Stoneking, who apparently resides in Australia and his songs sound like they're straight out of the 1920s/1930s. Apparently I can't post a link here, but the is called Jungle Blues. It's on JB's website if you're interested in more info.

I've also been getting into Janis Ian a lot lately (I'm a bit slow, I know!) Do you like her music?

  21. Welcome to the forum, Bindi! We are indeed a friendly bunch and I think you'll fit right in
  22. Hi Sue and welcome! I was eyeing off the complete Sherlock Holmes in a bookstore today and trying to work out whether the box set of books would be covered by the 35% off Borders voucher I have. I didn't want to risk it, but I might go back next week and ask
  23. Welcome to the forum, Matt! I read 1984 on my iPod a few years ago and I've since acquired a 'real' copy of the book.
  24. Welcome to the forum Robin! I'm sure you'll get plenty of great recommendations.
