David Eddings & Raymond Feist
wrathofkublakhan replied to kitty_kitty's topic in Horror / Fantasy / SF
Good authors! I've enjoyed their stuff from time to time. While I don't know your specific books, the odds are fantastic they are part of a series and should be enjoyed in order. Here's a quick list of Raymond Feist's books.... http://www.raymondfeistbooks.com/booklist.htm -
I am pretty loose about it. In general, they pile up until I give them to my local library or some charity. I won't re-read very many mysteries and I run through them quite often. However, like most; I keep many to re-read. Some of my favorite books have been used books that were gifts, "here, you need to read this" or "this is what we were talking about the other day" - examples are: The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test The World According to Garp The Illuminatus! Even Cowgirls Get the Blues The Stand Sho-Gun As you can see, I have some really good friends!

Anita Blake Series by Laurell K. Hamilton

Well yeah -- graphic novels are expensive. There is a lot to them and must be expensive to print. I've enjoyed the Batman Dark Knight books, so awesome and ...dark. Especially good if you grew up reading the comix. The Sandman by Neil Gaiman is brilliant and worth a re-visit if you've bought them. Cerebus by Dave Sim hasn't been mentioned yet, so I'll offer that title up. It makes me wish I could draw..... Comics now ... I read them as a kid! Archie, Superman, Richie Rich, Spiderman, Fantastic Four ... the list is enormous. I own the issue that the Spiderman movie was made from. I doubt it's worth anything, it's beat. I'm sure I had it folded in my back pocket as I ran around the back yard as a child. My solution is to find a fan who loves something and let them suggest a title.

I mention this forum in my blog now and then, that's my way of promoting the site. It seems the most logical way to reach an electronic audience. I don't know if it'd be cheating, but creating a myspace and a 360 blog with the moniker bookclubforum might be a good idea, mostly to just get traffic via the Friends List. The blogs would simply offer a link to this site. In general, I think this is a super-site already with no real need for growth beyond a few more prolific interesting and new topics. I think the fun of it is user participation, so anything that encourages that will help it's continued success.

(Smiles) I spent 10 wonderful days in Scotland, first doing a show at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival then up to Loch Ness. I noticed a LOT of Indian Restaurants!

I have an "at home" book and a "car book" going at the same time. The car book is normally a trash mystery or easy read so it's easy to remember the plot and the characters -- good for eating out alone, lines at the bank etc.

The list of things that have been in my mouth? -- prolly not proper for this forum. However, I do love the adventure of trying new foods. I've eaten the tacos cooked on hot rocks on Mexico and sampled the pride of Hong Kong in many a store-front restaurant. I swear, they cooked sausages in lard in Scotland and I downed that with a bowl of corn flakes and a cold beer. New York pizza and San Francisco clam chowder in bread bowls, New Mexico green chile stew and sopaipillas filled will honey -- I love it all. And yet, my mouth, my body, my throat rejects raw fish -- sushi is a major food craze and I gag, turn red and spit it out. I tried!

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Oh my goodness, my favorite foods.... Give me chocolate cake and tequila with clam bake slaver me with cheddar cheese and ice cream, if you sweet please green chiles on Mexican enchiladas and tangy spicy Italian ensaladas a plate of spaghetti ravioli like cappelletti I want meat to gnaw on. Ribs; to tear the meat off the bone. Chicken bones so I feel like Primal Man, juices flowing on my lips, greasy lips - sensuous beyond belief. I want to grunt and chew and wash it all down with a dark lager. It's totally Oral, that's what it is all about. Food and Mouth Degrees.

1. Favorite Breakfast: it's found in truck stops all across America. *chicken fried steak *hash browns *three eggs, over easy *sourdough toast with grape jelly *sausage gravy *short stack of pancakes *coffee, black and strong enough to float a horse shoe The key is to take your fork and stick it straight down into the stack of pancakes, twirl the fork. This makes a chimney or reservoir for the syrup. Fill to the brim and then eat your eggs. Once the syrup has soaked down to a respectable level, top off again! Saturation of syrup is the key. 2. Typical Breakfast: a pot of black coffee and half-a-pack of cigarettes.

Gracious me - I love a Book Club Forum that covers hangover cures! Well done! I love all the solutions -- don't drink so much, McDonald's shakes, bacon, toasted cheese sandwiches, even a little hair of the dog that bit you. Mine? I swear by McDonald's Fries and Cokes. I believe in lots of water (ice cold, if possible) Exercise helps. Time.

My memory of children's books is when I was a young lad on my grandparent's farm. I discovered some books in the attic that my grandfather and then my father read -- Tom Swift and Tom Swift Jr. The first Tom Swift series were written between 1910 and 1940 (Tom Swift and His Motorcycle). The second series, Tom Swift Jr. (1954 - 1971) were more modern, obviously. I associated Tom Swift with my grandfather's era and Jr. with my dad. So, I enjoyed these books so much even though they were "old and in the past" books - spending long summer days in the attic or on the porch reading through all the adventures. Posting this memory, I looked it up on wikipedia and learned that they were ghost-written by many authors! Astonishing! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Swift Which, of course, spawned the famous Tom Swifties.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Swifty Examples include: "Pass me the shellfish," said Tom crabbily. "Can I go looking for the Grail again?" Tom requested. "I unclogged the drain with a vacuum cleaner," Tom said succinctly. "I might as well be dead," Tom croaked. "They had to amputate them both at the ankles," Tom said defeatedly.

I've a warm spot in my heart for The Music Man -- watching Hermione Gingold in the movie version spoofing Isadora Duncan and Ruth St. Denis (One Grecian Urn ... trickle, trickle, trickle) is just priceless! I will always love Singing in the Rain -- it is brilliant on so many levels!

Sure, I've got one more Cooking With Wrath story since y'all seem to enjoy them! http://www.calarts.edu/%7Edk/pepper/pepper.html Not sweet -- these are stuffed green peppers.

Ya ya, I've read some Meredith Gentry books ~ fun stuff. Obviously I'm passionate about the Anita Blake series. Meredith just seemed a little ... girly. Not that I mind a Girly Book now and then! -
Have you read a book more than once?
wrathofkublakhan replied to Inver's topic in General Book Discussions
I've read many over and over again. It seems that if I don't have a book to read I get restless and bump into things. I've read the labels on soup cans and have even caught myself reading the shampoo bottle in the shower and then; having once read it; begin to re-arrange letters to make other words. Is it an illness, disease or sickness, I'm not sure - in any case, it runs in my family. I once saw my little sister, about 13 years old, wake up from a nap; put on her glasses and continue reading. Books abound. They're piled up in my apartment either waiting like an old friend for a visit or a trip as a donation to my local library. I have "book friends" (and now this forum) who suggest books for me to read, like the waiter at my local fish and chips place. Like two grannies on the porch talking about past lovers, I find myself re-reading books from my childhood remembering not only the story but the innocence of my youth. Some books I might never read again but keep for nostalgia. I have my beat-up treasured copy of Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test that I read back in '73 that still has a rolling paper in it for a book mark! My experience with books in my life is so profound and integrated into my lifestyle that it's bound tightly, barely edited (just like this long paragraph). -
