  1. i have now finished Gideon Mack and it was FANTASTIC !!!! every page kept my interest, it made you think and it was a completely different experinece. And there was actually loads of events through out the book so ignore my first comment.
  2. Im half way through this book and just wondered if anyone else was reading it n wot they thought. There is something that draws me into the book. im finding it hard to put down although very little happens. There seem to be alot of things in the book that make you think.
  3. you must put "two women" to the top of your pile it is amazing. It's one of my fAVOURITES,incredible twists and turns as always very high drama.
  4. I am currently reading one child by Torey Hayden and i can't put it down. I am a teacher who can really identify with some of Torey's situations and it is an education in it'self readeing her work. Absolutely heart renching, touching, funny in places and really opens your eyes. A book i will never forget. I have just bought "twighlight children" tonight. Has any body read her work?
  5. i agree with sophies world but bell jar was depressing
  6. This book i will never forget and hope to read again in a few years time. "Into Thin Air" is about an expedition up everest that went wrong loosing 9 of it's original climbers. It was so good you felt like you were climbing with them, i was out of breath while reading it as the air got thinner towards the top. Informative too. Vivid. a book i won't forget. Excellent!!!!!!!
  7. I first read this book because i was interested in aspergus syndrome due to working with children all day, but the book became alot more than that as i read it. I loved the character as he progressed through the book and found myself quite saddened by some of the situations in the book. I felt it was simply told story yet extremely powerful. The bit that moved me was when he found the letters. I was choked and it's rare for me to find a book that does that to me. I think i would like to read it agian.
  8. Thanx a lot for your opinion on Dorian Gray. Ive just read alittle on amazon and i can't tell from a page very well but i think i would feel the same from what i read. I didn't get a good feel for it.
  9. Wuthering heights would go into my top 20 favourites i'm afraid and as for Anne of green gables, never read the book but i love the film. in fact it is my favourite film ever. Bag of bones i agree with though.
  10. This book Dorian Gray, many people on this site have talked about it saying how great it is. What is it about? What didn't you like about it. I thought i may try it because so many were enthusiastic about it
  11. I really loved Bill Brysons "Neither here nor there" because i was given an insite into europe, and felt i learnt loads from it plus it was quite funny, so notes from a samll island was a great let down.Probably because i live in england so i felt he couldn't tell me much i didn't already know.
  12. Everyone has at least 1 book they couldn't believe they were sat there reading. You maybe felt you should finish it for what ever reason or had to pack it in it was so bad. What were yours? Should be easier than top 10 favourites. So In no particular order: 1) Mrs Dalloway( viginia Wolfe) 2) The ring masters daughter ( Jostein Gaarder) 3) Surfacing ( Margaret Atwood) 4) Notes of a small Island ( Bill Bryson) 5) If on a winters night a traveller (Italo Calvino)
  13. It's taken a while for me to be able to narrow it down to 5 but in no particular order: 1) Catcher in the Rye. 2)The Giants House ( by Elizabeth Mc Cracken) 3) The jamacia Inn ( Daphine Du Maurier) 4) Through the narrow gate. Karen Armstrong) 5) The handmaids Tale ( Margaret Atwood) The other two i wanted on that list were "Rebecca" br Daphine Du Maurier and "Shadows of the wind" but they missed it by a whisker.
  14. I try to make sure my next book is a different genre from the last.
  15. I found a film called chasing Holden which is about a boy who loves "catcher in the rye" so much he sets out in search of J.D.Salinger( if i remember rightly) My friend also got me the book called Dream catcher which is written by Margaret Salinger his daughter about her recluse father. Haven't read it yet but will soon.
  16. Definately couldn't give them up. no way!
  17. I won't read Barbara Taylor bradford or josephine cox, mills n boon etc... but i have been known to read a Catherine Coookson and they never disappoint they are excellent. My favourite is " the cultured Handmaid". Very powerful! will stay with you for ever.
  18. This is what i did, i stopped reading it a couple of times and couldn't believe how strange it was and hated it but then went back when i was older and thought copletely differently about it. I loved it.
  19. by J.D Salinger This is a book i tried reading at collage and after the first few pages just thought what the hell have i just read? and didn't like the character. I tried it twice, with it being a classic but couldn't get my head around this character. However, took the book to portugal with me and couldn't put it down. Considering nothing much happened in the story due to it being set in one day, it was absolutely gripping. Holden Caulfield was the most annoying character but you can't help but like him and feel for him. I hated reaching the end of the book because it meant leaving him. It was so well written that you felt he was real and that you really knew him. I haven't managed to find another book that's similar since. I want to read it again but i'm frightened it will take away the impact the book had on me the first time it was read.

I had seen a jeeves and wooster episode on tv and thought i'd like to get into reading them, so i bought "thank you jeeves" only the time i read it was when i was feeling sick and in a great deal of pain with mumps and now everytime i see them on the shelves in the book shops it reminds me of my horrid mumps, the pain the sick and supplies me with dire memories. will one day erase the memories and read more though.
