There were some, but I thought the book was a bit predictable and I guessed the ending myself:roll: anyone else read this one?
  6. glad to hear you liked it! I haven't even opened mine yet...was going to wait for a special occassion, but at this rate it'll be vintage VERY quick:roll:

  15. Thanks for the delicious sounding recommendation Sofia. A Portugese red; I mean COULD it get any better? I'll be checking for this one at Total Wine tommorrow. By the way I gave several bottles of the Vinho Verde as gifts to my docs last week. They were much appreciated. that's great!! A quick note, my dad and brother are in the process of making wine right now.....the main wine they make is a dark red....really dry and strong...but with what's left, they make a kind of watered down wine which is called agua pe...which translated means 'foot water' it tastes a lot better than it sounds....trust me!!
  16. yes...It's a red. I thougth the same thing about the vanilla and coconut...I am VERY excited to try it now!! meant to mention it is a 2001
  17. the next one is a lot simpler. Another Vinho Verde called Casal Garcia....From the extensive vineyards of the Vinho Verde Region, selected grapes from the best varieties are brought to our winery. The result is Casal Garcia, a young, fruity and delicate white wine, ideal as an aperitif or with light dishes. It should be served chilled. http://www.portuguesefood.com/acatalog/Casal_Garcia_White_Wine.html
  18. ok....picked up two bottles of wine from Portugal....(at the liquor store, not at the country ) one is called Vinha Do Monte, which translated means Wine of the Hill. Here is what the bottle says: This wine is produced from a careful selection of fine grape varieties of the region, namely Aragones and Castelao. The grapes, picked at their ripest, are promptly transported to our Herdade do Peso cellar. There, after being completely destemmed and softly crushed, they are fermented and macerated in stainless steel vats at controlled temperatures. After malo-lactic fermentation, the wine is matured in oak casks for about six months. Vinha Do Monte has an intense ruby colour and is characterised by a flowery and fruity bouquet with a tinge of forest fruit and violet aromas, harmoniously combined with hints of vanilla and coconut gained during its maturation in oak. It is extremely smooth on the palate with soft and rounded tannins and an elegant, warm and velvet aftertaste. for anyone interested
  19. that is for sure.
  20. am also reading The Tenth Circle now
  21. I know where my loyalties lay
  22. From the Publisher On election day in the capital, it is raining so hard that no one has bothered to come out to vote. The politicians are growing jittery. What's going on? Should they reschedule the elections for another day? Around three o'clock, the rain finally stops. Promptly at four, voters rush to the polling stations, as if they had been ordered to appear. But when the ballots are counted, more than 70 percent are blank. The citizens are rebellious. A state of emergency is declared. The president proposes that a wall be built around the city to contain the revolution. But are the authorities acting too precipitously? Or even blindly? The word evokes terrible memories of the plague of blindness that had hit the city four years before, and of the one woman who kept her sight. Could she be behind the blank ballots? Is she the organizer of a conspiracy against the state? A police superintendent is put on the case. What begins as a satire on governments and the sometimes dubious efficacy of the democratic system turns into something far more sinister. A singular novel from the author of Blindness. Ok, I FINALLY finished this book! I have heard from several people that this was one of his best, and they really enjoyed it. I don't know, I struggled to finish this book. I guess I was hoping for a few more ties to Blindness....but I will say that at the end it was worth the read. So go ahead and get it Dogmatix...then we can compare
  23. I love the stephanie Plum series. According to her site...."book thirteen" is due to be released June 2007. I read "visions Of Sugar Plums," it was ok....but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. You can check it out here: http://www.evanovich.com
  24. just saw a review on this one today in People magazine, it got four stars!! I was thinking of reading it, now I'm not so sure. Anyway, for those interested, here is the review. The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield Bookshop assistant Margaret Lea is summoned to the estate of British author Vida Winter to write her biography-a gothic tale of incest and identity swapping, adultery and arson. Margaret puzzles out the truth while keeping watch on her own heart, as Vida's story focuses on twin sisters, and Margaret has her own raw secret: She is a twin too, haunted by her infant sister's death. Readers will feel the magnetic pull of this paean to words, books and the power of story.
  25. the book is much, much better than the movie!
