  1. two out of three isn't bad?
  2. Great photo Bree. Elephants love the water. Here is a photo of a bear I named 'Looking Bear". As you can see the bear loves the sunflower seed in the bird feeder. one of the bears actually took the feeder off the post and went down into the woods with it. My granddaughter and I went all through the woods looking for the feeder and couldn't find it.
  3. wow poppy, what an experience for your brother and family. tell him to send photos. Agree with you, Bree,we would like some elephant photos. I lost all my elephant photos from my GD trip to Africa when I got my new computer and they somehow got lost in th transfer.
  4. The bear photos are from a few years back when I lived near Charlottesville, Virginia, U.S. I lived there for for about 13 or 14 years and loved it. I have since moved to North Carolina.
  5. the bear in the last photo was a cub in its first year. this photo is of a fully grown bear that I named 'trouble", for obvious reasons. Moderator - should this photo be moved elsewhere so we don't mess up the What's Up In July thread?
  6. Last Christmas we received this email from our previous neighbor. I am sure she wouldn't mind my posting it: Hi Ed, Ain’t no miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer! About 4:20a this morning my wind chimes woke me up. I had no marine horn because I’d emptied it about a month ago when another bear cub had arrived in the wee hours. I finally used a couple of skillets and banged away. This morning I had to throw a skillet at this guy to make him budge. Pretty funny! His partner in crime (twin) went up a big oak nearby, but it was too far away to get a photo of him. Once they were off the deck I retrieved my feeders that somehow were still in tact. A few minutes later they were back and ripped up the cover on the grill before giving up and leaving since this crazy woman was beating on the deck with a skillet again. Don’t you miss life in the country?
  7. Why don't you tape it and post it on u-tube . Then we could all listen. actually, I think you are modest. it will sound very nice, I am sure. Naw, I think many on here have seen the bear photos and it would only be a repeat. I may post a photo of a young bear that my neighbor (from my old place of residence) sent me this past Christmas when a bear was on her deck outside the house. It made so much noise that she thought it was Santa and his reindeer coming.
  8. climate is about the same and t does not chnage what I grow. i put a solar powered electric fence around my current garden to keep the deer out and it works for deer. not so well for squirrels and rabbits. I made salsa yesterday.....chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, chopped peppers (both hot and sweet), a little vinegar, a little lemon, some cilantro, and salt. I eat it with tortilla chips.
  9. I would love to hear Starry, Starry Night sung by a Choir. Keep us informed on the progress of the Choir. How many play guitar in the Choir?
  10. it does sound like a great idea. probably too late for my veggie garden but may help with flowers, especially the phlox. the deer eat all the buds off my phlox. We also have a very plump rabbit that has now eaten the tops off all my carrots. They are probably ok though as they had pretty much matured and I will dig/pull thm out. At least we don't have any bear problems where we now live. poppy will remember the photos i took at our previous home where we had bear every day in our back yard eating sunflower seed. We would have as many as 7 different bear in a single day.
  11. I never thought of chili powder. I wonder if that would help. of course it would take a lot of powder for my garden. my new computer was delivered. a neighbor friend helped set it up for me. Now I have to learn how to use it. poppy - if you read this. the monitor is 27" and is an all-in-one, no external processor. You should see the Starry, Starry, Night song/video on it .......awesome.
  12. We will be vacationing again this September in Bar Harbor. This is one of the restaurants where we wil have dinner 4 nights. The restaurant is the "rounded" part of the Inn.. http://www.barharborinn.com/property.html this is the inside of the dining room. We normally get a table at the window so we have a clear view of the harbor and boats. if interested, access the menu and browse. It is our favorite restaurant in Bar Harbor. http://www.barharborinn.com/dining.html

  14. We vacation in Bar Harbor, maine every year and they have an ice cream store that has "lobster" flavor ice cream. I haven't had the nerve to try it and also haven't been able to talk my wife into trying it.

The Penn State Creamery in State College, Pennsylvania has the best ice cream in the U.S. Visitors from all over the world have come to taste and learn how the Ice Cream is made at the Creamery. http://creamery.psu.edu/products/ice-cream my favorites are: 1. Teaberry 2. Maple Nut 3. Butter Pecan 4. Pistachio
  17. Saturday evening we went to dinner at an Irish restaurant. I had "bangers and mash" for the first time. It was very good. We will go back to this restaurant as the people were nice and the food was very good. last night for dinner I had stuffed peppers (huge bell peppers from my garden). It was one of the best meals of stuffed peppers that I have had that I can remember.
  18. This is a cute little 'novelty' tune from days gone by. Give it a listen, I think you may like it. http://youtu.be/ZqjBVG_QAPo
  19. Little Ms Stitch - no problem, it is ok to just post the title of the song and the name of the artist. Vodkafan - Great song by Nat King Cole. I always enjoy listening to him. There is another song that he recorded that isn't as well known as most of his songs that I really like, it is title "Dance Ballerina Dance".
  20. Two things are up in July for me. 1. The temperature on our thermometer hit 104 F today. 2. My temper is way up. I had 3 rows of corn planted, each row about 15 feet long and the corn was just getting ripe for picking and eating. Well, squirrels got into it and ate every darn ear of corn. I was furious as we were looking forward to fresh corn on the cob.
  21. Pop in now and then and post a Title of a Song that you like. It doesn't have to be your favorite song, just a Title of a Song that you like. Also, just the Title is fine as it doesn't have to be the actual singing of the song. Here is a song from 1959 that was sung by The Browns titled The Three Bells (Little Jimmy Brown). It originated in France in 1945 but became a big hit in the U.S. in 1959 when sung by The Browns. http://youtu.be/uiwFeKartX4
  22. In celebration of the 4th of july in the U.S. a film clip of James Cagney, Mickey Rooney, and Judy Garland singing Yankee Doodle Dandy. Try this one without Mickey and Judy.
  23. Moderator - if this isn't the proper place for this thread please move it to where it should be. RIP, Andy Griffith. The star and creator of one of the all-time best TV shows, The Andy Griffith Show, has passed away. i can't say enough about how great the show was and the people that played the parts in the show. http://youtu.be/Lli9ABUFZCU
