  1. I love soup in the winter. I make beef stew and chicken with dumplins a lot during the cold season but I don't use a recipe just sort throw it (much depends on what I have on hand) together just like my granny did and taught me to do.
  2. I read it this summer and then my husband read it after me, we liked it and it gave us a lot to talk about. I think what Louiseog said above is very fitting. I have heard the sequel Son Of A Witch is better and will be ordering a copy of it soon
  3. Yes the food and drink is fantastic here.
  4. Ah, so, I was reading along and thinking this is exactly like the movie and something seemed not quite right and so I took another look at the book and realized it was the movie tie in book. The language and some aspects of the story have been altered to fit the movie and now I'm going to have to track down a copy of the original story. Hopefully the library has one in.
  5. From Olympia Washington in the US to Vilseck Bayern in Germany, I'm still in culture shock.
  6. I miss salmon, mostly the salmon fish & chips.
  7. I'm excited about it, I love Peter Pan too. Here's the link http://www.peterpaninscarlet.com/
  8. I read this last spring and I agree with everything you said above. I haven't started the Memory, Sorrow, Thorn books yet they are sitting on my shelf waiting for me. I did read the Otherland series and really liked it.
  9. I really enjoyed it. It came to me from a friend as well and it was everything he said it would be.
  10. I loved this book and Middlesex, too. There was something about the tone/setting of the book that just grabbed me and wrapped me in.
  11. I'm very late adding to this but I finished the book last night. All in all, I really enjoyed it and thought that is was very well done for a first novel. I did find some parts dragged a bit but then the story seemed to pick up the pace again. I had read Bram Stoker's Dracula years ago and while reading the Historian remembered how fond I was of Dracula so I ordered another copy to read soon.
  12. I read American Gods, Neverwhere and Stardust this summer and liked all three. I liked Neverwhere best, my husband liked American Gods the most. I really liked the idea behind American Gods, the story of how they came over and their current roles/lives was my favorite part. I would of liked a bit more detail for Shadow I think but I can see how the lack of detail suited his character.
  13. I too, saw your forum mentioned at another book forum, it was perfect timing because I was not very happy at that forum and looking for a friendlier place.
  14. I didn't know, I will have to look for it. Thank you for letting me know
  15. I thought it was good too and I'm glad to find someone else that has read it. I forgot how I came across it, I am originally from Alabama and I suspect one of my relatives sent it but I really enjoyed it.
  16. I keep many of my books, to lend to others or reread if I enjoyed them. If I didn't really like them enough to share or reread I give them away, I usually do a BookCrossing wild release but no one has claimed to have caught them yet, maybe I should leave better books.
  17. I collect postcards and I often use them for bookmarks and I try to match the card to the book if I can  I have too much time on my hands I guess.
