  1. Oh yes, I agree with Kell - some great stuff ahead. I feel very excited for you!
  2. I know they're aimed at young adults and I haven't read any, but I have some on my Amazon Wishlist as I think they look good. My sort of history is from Victorian onwards really, so I'll probably order one from that era to try.
  3. Well, I think you're very definitely in the minority as most people seem to have loved it, but it's good to have varied opinions.
  4. I've had Coastliners by Joanne Harris on my to read pile for several years. I don't know why I haven't read it, seeing as I've read most of her other paperbacks, but I've just never got round to it.
  5. I've just finished and I loved this book so much. I thought the ending (before 'Nineteen years later') was perfect. I cried when Snape died - I never believed he was really evil - not even at the end of book 6 - but I was wavering a little in this book. I'm glad he was a good guy afterall. Then very ending was a bit twee, but also necessary (this is, afterall, a children's book). I've loved every minute of this Harry Potter adventure from the first book review I ever saw about HP book 1 on Blue Peter all those years ago, right up until the very end. Roll on films 6 and 7! *Contented sigh*
  6. I've finished! What a blessed relief - I can get back to some sort of normality now! I've missed t'internet over the last two days, and have 644 unread posts on here! Loved it!
  7. I bought the children's version in Tesco today - they had both, but I have the first three in adult paperback and the next three (before this) in children's hardback, so I'm going to buy hardback 1, 2 and 3 to get a matching set! These are the only books I ever read as hardbacks! I've read up to the end of chapter 6 so far and I'm really getting into it. THE FOLLOWING IS *NOT* A SPOILER IF YOU'VE READ THE WHOLE OF CHAPTER 1!
  8. Would we shout?! I just couldn't do it. I think if I'd read the end, I wouldn't have wanted to continue reading it! Do you think you'll do the same on Saturday?!
  9. I remembered to watch R&J too. Nobody had a bad word to say about the book!
  10. Just... hugs
  11. I was only thinking about Peter Pan in Scarlet today and wondering if/when it's out in paperback.
  12. I found a (possibly the?) review! Below is just a small part of it: LOL - it ends thus: Sonya Hartnett's second impulse was right. She is too good a writer to put her name to this indigestible hairball of spunk and spite. Full article here - it's on two pages, but is worth reading!
  13. Ah-ha - it's a sign!
  14. I don't know if it's out here yet? The only copy of Landscape with Animals I can find on Amazon is by Cameron Redfern. ETA: A search of Wikipedia reveals that Sonya Hartnett also writes as Cameron Redfern! The book has no reviews on Amazon yet.
  15. Sounds like a good idea. I will try to remember to put it on! I liked the sound of that one too and have it on my Amazon Wish List!
  16. I've just finished Marshmallows for Breakfast by Dorothy Koomson. It wasn't as good as I thought it would be, which was a shame - I really enjoyed the beginning of it, but it turned out to be rather predictable. 6/10

  18. Wow - that's a blast from the past. There were loads of Lillian Beckwith books on our bookcase when I was a child. I don't think my Mum has them any longer though. Is it a factual book?
  19. Thanks for the link. I'm glad you enjoyed the book - I'm sure some people will be put off by the Richard and Judy connection, which is a shame as the book was great. The avie is from the BBC LoM download section! ETA: I see from her site that the book is being discussion on R&J this Wednesday, 18 July. I will have to try to remember to put it on - I don't normally watch this show.
  20. I hope you enjoy it.
  21. I read HP before all the hype and I was totally blown away by it. The only reason I bought it for myself was because I got it for my nephew for Christmas and read the first few pages - I knew I'd like the story so I bought myself a copy! I think this has certainly been pushed more than many other, equally good, books, but like Karen I can't wait for next Saturday and I'm frustrated that I'm working so won't be able to start it until after 2pm!
  22. The bit where
  23. I can access here from my local library (or at least I could - they've started charging for internet access now, so I no longer pop in whilst I'm waiting for my daughter to come out of school), so hopefully you'll be able to access from your libraries. *crosses fingers* Perhaps there will be a decent, inexpensive net cafe you could use. I know of at least one in Bath that, if I remember correctly, is not too pricey. If not make sure you remember us when you have access again and come back!
  24. I read it a few years ago. I remember it being a bit slow too and I can't really remember the storyline, which I guess speaks volumes. Sorry!
