  1. I love this programme! I was happy with Nicholas going but I secretly wanted Raef to go as I really disliked him. Still, I can see him making good viewing...!

Did you see 'You're Fired' afterwards? At least Nicholas had the good grace to look suitably embarrassed by some of his comments!

  2. Peter Pan by J M Barrie

    The ‘Blurb’

The night that Peter Pan flies into the Darling children's nursery is the night that magic flies into their lives. It's the night that Wendy and her brothers follow Peter out of the window and soar through the sky to Neverland. It's the night that they discover a world of mermaids, fairies, and pirates, of lost boys, and of the terrible Captain Hook. It's the night the adventure begins...

Peter Pan is one of the best-loved stories ever written for children. For more than one hundred years this unforgettable tale has enchanted readers of all ages.

Step into Neverland with this magical, timeless classic.

I don’t know how I managed to get through my childhood without ever reading Peter Pan, although I was rather addicted to Enid Blyton books so that’s probably why! I have, of course, seen the Disney film and I remember my Mum waking me up (on a school night!) to come down and watch a Danny Kaye/Mia Farrow version of it on the TV!

I was very interested to learn a few years ago that Geraldine McCaughrean had been commissioned by Great Ormond Street to write a sequel and thought I’d like to read it, so I thought I’d better read the original story first! I was lucky enough to find a boxed set in WHS for £2.99 just after Christmas!

Peter Pan did not disappoint. Beautifully written prose and quite amusing in places, not least the public school educated Hook who still has a penchant for ‘good form’! It has survived time quite well in that it doesn’t feel too old-fashioned and I am looking forward to reading Peter Pan in Scarlet soon!

The paperback is 218 pages long and is published by Oxford University Press. The ISBN number is 978-192727480.

  3. I'm nothing like Becky and never have been. Even if I were rich I don't think I'd be in the least interested in shopping (unless it was for books!) and I wouldn't know a Gucci from a Prada if it bit me on the nose.

I don't read them because I identify with the character in any way - I read them because they're complete escapism, and as I said, I don't tend to read this genre much now anyway.

I'm not sure why I feel the need to justify myself, but all of a sudden I feel like I'm either very thick or very shallow...

  4. Shopaholic and Baby

I wouldn’t go so far as to say to anyone that they must read this book as it doesn’t have a lot of substance, but it’s funny and light-hearted and was the perfect antidote to the gloomy (even though I enjoyed it!) previous book that I read!

I'm not sure whether Ms Kinsella is planning a sixth Becky book or whether she'll quit on a high!

  5. Please keep images to a reasonable size and do not hotlink , but upload them to somewhere like Photobucket. Or, link to the relevant page at amazon. - thanks.

I know the old adage "never judge a book by its cover" but I must admit I often do!

Anyway, I just wondered whether anyone has any favourite book covers.

For me, it's often about feel as well as looks.

The most recent one I've liked is Mister Pip (so pretty!)

I also have a soft spot for this version of Rebecca - one of my favourite books of all time - because it's so 70s which is when my copy was reprinted!

  6. Unless there's a book you desperately want that you can't find anywhere else, then probably not.

Except...they have a Paperchase section. Lots of pretty notebooks.

I love going Borders - but mainly just to browse. I don't often go there because it's in Bristol near the university which, although it's a lovely part of the city, I don't often go to. I love the fact it's got Starbucks and Paperchase in there!

I used to go to a great second-hand bookshop in Gravesend when I lived in Kent called Regal Books. I'm not sure if it's still there now though.

  7. Aww cute rabbit cake, Muggle. ;)

We went to my parent's house and had roast pork with all the trimmings. I made pud - we had Delia's Marmalade Bread and Butter pudding. Well, the rest of them did - I had mango and raspberries!

My husband bought me a gorgeous Thornton's Egg with some Belgium chocolates - but I haven't started it yet!

  8. I read it a long time ago...it's sort of early chick lit isn't it

(steps back and ducks...'let me know when it's safe to come out!');)

I must admit that I've always thought of it that way.

    *Hides behind Purple Poppy*

I will see if I can get it from the library after June!

  9. I bet you could if you had a gun to your head :D

;) True - I'd probably change my mind after without telling the gunman though! :D

-Gone with the wind by Margret Mitchell

-The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer

Welcome to the forum. Prospero (I believe) has GWTW as one of her favourites.

  10. I joined Book Crossing last year and have only just put all my books on. My name on there is HeathersLaw I would love it if anyone would like to be my friend.

    Heather

I've added you (although I haven't released any books for ages - must rectify that) and changed your post above so your name is correct. ;)

    I'm Bagpuss1966 on there. :D
