  1. Apparently it's being picked up by Channel 4, but as there is a clause in the original BBC contract that if someone else picks it up, it has to be at least a year after the end of the last BBC season of it before a new season can be shown elsewhere, we could be in for a bit of a wait!

No talk yet on whether Mary, Paul, Mel or Sue will be transferring with the show, although Paul and Mary previously said they were keen to stay with the BBC, so when it does show up on Channel 4, there's a good chance it could be almost unreconisable as the show we all know and love! Not to mention there'll now be adverts in it. Will this now mean the show is shorter?

It's currently an hour per episode with no breaks - if the length were kept the same, there would be around 40-45 minutes of actual show with 15-20 minutes of breaks. Or do they make it an hour and a half to keep the full length of the show and include the breaks as extra? And will there be stupid reminders of what happened before the break each time we return? And also "coming up after the break" spoilers?

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I mean, I'm happy we'll still have Bake Off, but will it be anything like the show we have now? Only time will tell!

  2. I auditioned for a part in a pro Xmas show last week, and I am now playing one of the leads - I'll be Candy, the Christmas Fairy in The Magic Toybox which will be touring various venues in Northumberland. I am absolutely chuffed to ribbons and can't wait to get started - the first rehearsal is tomorrow night. :)

  3. I'm new to the forum but had to have a nose in this topic. You all seem to have a lovely attitude and are so supportive of each other, it's fabulous and a very nice change to see on forums :)

I had my whole small bowel removed at the beginning of last month, and due to complications I flatlined on the operating table like a scene from ER (remember that show?!). My surgeon saved my life but it meant that my recovery has been slow and arduous.

So, in August 2016, I learned to walk again. :D

Wow! You've had a time of it, haven't you?! Glad you seem to be on the mend now though!

I have a busy week on this week. Tonight I did the first of three upcoming auditions. This one was for panto (Dick Whittington). I auditioned for Fairy Bowbells, Ship Mate, and Alice (the female lead). I really want to play Fairy Bowbells, but I said I'd accept any part if they wanted me in the show! I should hear the results by the end of the weekend. Fingers crossed!

Tomorrow I'm busy in town with Mum and the boys - bank, post office, library, a bunch of stuff to buy.

Wednesday I have rehearsals for Sister Act (I'm just Nun #11, but it's a lot of fun!).

Thursday I'll be at Edinburgh Fringe all day with a group of people scouting shows to potentially bring to Northumberland. It'll be a long day, and we'll see four or five shows before coming home.

Friday is our grocery shopping day, and I also have another Sister Act rehearsal.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday we have our local annual maritime festival, but this year we'll be graced by the tall ships - exciting stuff!

Next Wednesday will be the second of my three auditions - this is for another Xmas show (The Magic Toy Box), but it's paid work this time, so if I get a part in that one, I can legitimately claim to be a professional actor once more, after my extended break of 15 years!

I don't know when I'll have time to breathe - LOL!

  4. Got the job. Only applicant etc.

I'm going to eat so much pizza when I get home that I may die and force them to re-advertise the job.

€27,000 for the year! That's not a lot to some people but it's more than I've ever had before!

Right now though all I care about is pizza.

    So much pizza, guys.

    So much pizza.

    And then sleep.

Congratulations, Noll! I'm proud of you. :)

  5. I've read this and while Harry Potter is my favourite ever book series I was a little disappointed with this. I thought the plot was a little far fetched and I didnt enjoy how some of the characters were portrayed. Still its a Harry Potter book and I'm happy to have another but to me it read rather like fan fiction.

I felt the same. I've just finished reading it, and although I did enjoy it, I felt parts of it were a little garbled and confusing, or, at least, not as well put as they could have been - there were several parts I had to read more than once to really get the gist of what was happening. Granted, I do most of my reading late at night, so tiredness may account for some of that, but I had similar trouble during the final battle in the last HP novel. (Seriously, I read that whole section three times before I could get to grips with who had done what and how and when and where - LOL.)

I know script is a far different format from novel, but I'm used to reading scripts (you get to be when you're on the stage from being a kid!). This didn't scan particularly smoothly for me, and it felt quite jarring when it jumped from one time period to another, even before the whole time turner business - it just didn't flow well for me. And the characters all felt rather flat - they completely lacked the dimension they had in the novels.

However, it remains that I did enjoy the story, and I'm glad I read it, but I'm equally glad I didn't fork out for it myself, and instead borrowed my Mum's copy, because I would have felt a little put out if I'd been out of pocket for this. I won't be buying my own copy to add to my Potter collection - I shall leave it as it is.

  6. Did anyone see the French gymnast breaking his leg? Just snapped it right in half during his land after a vault - it was flopping all over the place at the most horrifying angle! I felt rather sick when I saw it!

  7. I recently started stitching again after quite a long break. I did stitch a wedding sampler for my best pal's wedding last November, and it was the first thing I'd stitched in a few years! I'm busy stitching a few bookmarks for a craft stall at the moment to ease myself back into it. :)

  8. Did anyone else notice that Gendry (Robert Baratheon's out-of-wedlock son) who was helped to escape by Melisandre) just disappeared and hasn't been heard of since he set off in that little boat? Surely that can't be a dead end? A big deal was made of hunting him down because he was the king's son (even if not legitimate) and his blood being of value because it is the blood of a king, but then he just disappears and is never heard of again? I don't think so! Surely he's still of some importance? We can't just write him off...

  9. A girl finally got her finger out and got back to what she does best - vengeance (and a spot of baking)!

And her big sister finally grew balls and showed herself to be not only a shrewd strategist, but equal to her little sister when it comes to revenge!
And their younger brother proved that not zigzagging when being shot at with arrows is a bad idea. (Seriously, what I the only one yelling, "Serpentine, you idiot! Serpentine!" at the telly?)

And one queen rid herself of all her rivals in one spectacular swoop, gained everything she ever wanted, but then lost the only person who mattered to her (who expected that leap? I was so surprised!).

And another queen flirted with an Iron-born princess (was I the only one seeing the sparks flying between those two?), and finally started crossing the sea to her destiny.

And a man who knew nothing finally started knowing a few things. And even though he still doesn't know his own heritage, the viewers got a hint of it (and a million fans screamed "R+L really DOES = J!" at their TV screens).

Winter is no longer coming - it's here - and I can hardly wait for what's coming next!

  10. I can eat an entire stick of rock! I always crunched them, even as a child. Good, strong teeth here - one tiny filling when I was 21, but no other dental work done at all other than the occasional scale and polish (I'm pushing 40 now!).

Have you ever seen rock being made? It's quite clever!

  11. I loved The Fault In Our Stars, but gave up on Katherines as I just couldn't get into it at all. As a result, I was kind of put off trying Paper Towns and haven't picked up anything else by this author. Love his Vlog Brothers stuff though, and absolutely adored The Lizzie Bennet Diaries, which was created by his brother (the other half of Vlog Brothers, obviously).

  12. 2016 can do one - it's officially the suckiest year ever for people dying! Not content with killing off our "vintage" stars, it's now started picking off the young ones too. It just sucks. It totally sucks!!!

  13. I just did my first audition in 15 years tonight! Went for a part in a production of Sister Act. Hoping to hear some time tonight, but I don't for one second think I've got it. It went well, and I enjoyed it, but I think that on this occasion, looking younger than my age is going to count against me - LOL!

Well, I didn't get the role I was after, but I do have a small role one step up from chorus. Ironically, when I joined the company for their first rehearsal, I joked to my pal, "I'll be happy if I get Nun #11!" - guess what my small role is!!! ROFLMAO!!!

My friend got the role I was after - if I wasn't getting it, I'm glad she got it instead, because she's going to be brilliant. She's about 15 years older than me, so she looked a better fit for the part - I guess I look too youthful to be a Mother Superior!

  14. Had a fabulous afternoon singing at Blyth Battery as part of their 100-year celebrations. Felt like a million bucks in the dress I borrowed from a good friend, and was pleased to see in photos that I look half the size I did last May, or even last September, when I sang there last year!

  16. Stuart MacBride - great Scottish crime fiction, most of them set in Aberdeen. Absolutely brilliant! Start with Cold Granite and go on from there.

Christopher Brookmyre - a hint of crime, a dash of satire, and a massive dollop of pitch black humour. Mostly set in Edinburgh and Glasgow, but some set in other places (one set in LA), all with Scottish protagonists.
