  1. Hi Catwoman. Thanks for your comment on my book log. :) I hope you will decide the read the Southern Vampire books - they really are enjoyable.

On a side note, would you mind not quoting entire posts - it takes up a lot of space and makes threads more difficult to read. If you're quoting a previous post, please delete all but the part to which you are directly referring - it keeps things nice and tidy and easier on the eye. ;) Ta muchly. :)

  2. Hi Michael.

Just to let you know I've removed your link as it's a download site.

    Thanks.

    Hi Paula,

Thanks for the offer of the book, but Mount TBR is still teetering and Im' not reading so much at the moment, so I'll pass for the moment, if that's OK, and perhaps take you up no it later on. Thanks again. :)

  4. Hi Ron.

While we welcome you to the forum and encourage all members to participate in discussions, please note that we are a book forum and therefore our primary function is to facilitate discussions on books, not to host articles for writers whose work is also hosted on their own sites. Thank you for your understanding. We look forward to chatting about books with you.

  5. Hi Steve,

Can I ask you to remember that we have a zero tolerance promotion policy. As such, I have removed one of your posts.

    Thank you.

  6. Hi Vinay. Would you mind cropping a few lines from your sig please? We have guidelines about the size of them for the forum to make reading threads easier. You could still keep what's there, but perhaps crop it like so:

Variants of the chicken joke: Why did the chicken cross the road?

Terry Goodkind: Highlight to view spoiler:

Douglas Adams: Highlight to view spoiler:

    Vinay: Highlight to view spoiler:

(the spoiler tags don't work on profile messages)This would reduce it to the 4-line rule. Ta muchly. :)

  7. I gave up the acting shortly before I got together with my hubby. I had been on the stage for 20+ years and was sick of all the moving around all the time. Add that to a really lousy memory (which made learning lines a real chore) et voila! I continued with the singing (both solo and in bands) and dancing for a while, but eventually I stopped that too.

I don't realy miss the acting at all now. I did a little in the beginning, but overall I know I made the right decision as I've been happier since I jacked it all in. Funny, isn't it? So many people would say acting was a dream job - I was actually starting to be able to make a comfortable living from it, but it was making me miserable in the end.

We did loads of different kinds of shows - musicals, dance shows, Shakespeare, drama, comedy, panto - you name it, we did it!

  8. It is indeed - I've got my copy winging its way to me soon (I hope) - I've been reading the comments in the reading cricle and it's been intriguing me!

Xander is definitely getting big now (although he's still only just above the 25th centile, so he's just little really - LOL!). I can hardly believe he'll be 9 months old on 24th June!

  9. It's Out of Africa by Karen Blixen. I never finished it as I was so completely bored with it. I may go back to it some day, but not right now. I acquired that copy of it from my Dad who was getting shot of a load of book club books. It's published by Guild Publishing by arrangement with Putnam & Co and printed by St Edmundsbury Press. It's the 1986 edition and is gorgeous. I also have The Tenant of WIldfell Hall in green. The typeface inside is rather small though, so it doesn't make for the easiest reading, but it does look beautiful on the shelves!

And thanks for the compliments - both to the book and myself. You made my day. :)

  10. Just wanted to say, "You're BEAUTIFUL!"

Please go and visit www. operationbeautiful. com (take out the spaces)

    Not a problem - just a genuine question. :)

  12. Officially we have 5 weeks as of yesterday, but we're convinced we don't have quite that long - it's all feeling very close. We're "nesting"at the moment - the kitchen is currently being gutted - all cupboards emptied, cleaned, sorted and rearranged - it's amazing the amount of stuff we're chucking out! And Tadpole seems to think that kicking me mecilessly is helping in some way - LOL!

And we DID miss you heaps - the place ain't the same without you around!

  13. Page 275??? So near, and yet so far. I stopped at about page 220. If only page 275 had been page 1, or even page 100, I might have kept on. Now that I know I figured it all out within the first few pages (from the point when Vanger was mentioning he got those flowers every year!), I'm convinced I would have been furious had I wasted any more time on it only to find out it wasn't a red herring as I had hoped. So it's probably best I quit when I did - LOL!

I'm not going to let it steal my mojo though - I'm going to move onto my new Christopher Brookmyre book (Pandaemonium). He's never disappointed me yet, so I'm looking forward to reading this one. :)

    You have been warned.

  15. Thanks for getting back to me and thanks for the compliments! :)

Do you use any programme in particular for designing? (I'm just going to bug you with a million questions now - LOL!).

The Child Thief is Brom's first full-length novel and is really quite chunky. It is also illustrated, but not to the same extent as the other two. It explores the very dark side of the Peter Pan story and although I've only just started it I'm falling in love with it already.

I hope I have now FULLY infected you with Brom-itis and that you will now go out and get the only way to alleviate it - his books! Of course, it's not a cure and the addiction is sure to grow, but you can re-visit his books time and time again for a quick fix. :)

(it wouldn't let me do all of this in a single post!)

  17. Well, there are two rumours as to why they won't even look for the sex of the baby there any more - the first theory is that a couple of years ago, they got the sex of a baby wrong and the parents had bought everything in a specific gender-based colour, then sued the hospital. The second theory is that certain cultures were aborting foetuses if they found out they were having girls.

on the names thing - we've gone for unusual, but not literary at all! :)

Your sig made me laugh - my mate did a parachute jump recently and ended up in a tree* - she won't doing that again!

    * She was fine, hence we're able to laugh about it now.

  19. I'm pleased to announce that I'll be playing the role of Sonia in the Bede Players production of Godspell this November! :)

It really is! Looking forward to it a great deal. I did makeup for their production of Snow White last year (making up 7 kids to look like dwarves, and also the dame's make up - I was also the dame's dresser!), and got well and truly bitten by the bug again. It made me resolve to start auditioning for things, and now, a year later, I've done a pro Xmas show, and I'll be doing this panto (amateur) next week.

  21. *hugs* Hope your dog is OK. :(

    1. Nollaig

      Nollaig

Thanks Kell :) Either way, she'll be fine - she's alive, and that's the main thing. The question now is whether her own hip will stay in place or whether it will pop back out and need a full hip replacement. Only time will tell, vet said there's a 60%-80% chance of the original hip taking, and they're hopeful because she's a small enough dog. 60% doesn't sound like a lot to me, but 80% isn't bad, so here's hoping. Was horrible leaving her there today :(

  22. Added capitals to most of your posts - please see post in Rules, Guidelines and FAQ re this

  23. 29 is a good age, bu I have to admit, I rather enjoyed twenty-ten too!

  24. A family day out with friends today - going to Pizza Hut for lunch, then to the cinema to see Brave. Working tonight, but that can't be helped... Gonna have a great time redargless! :)
