  1. Just thought I'd put in a good word for one of the Godfathers of Science Fiction. Asimov introduced some innovative futuristic scenarios and "things" such as human-like robots, robots turning on their masters. He also concentrated on characters as opposed to the world outside in his stories. Less time building background that the personae within it. I grew up reading his books - great stories.
  2. I've never actually used an audio book. I have used audio stuff for learning foreign languages, "Hola mi amigos, como estas?", but thats all.
  3. I will have to pick that one up. I have followed ebola through fiction but know enough micro-biology to know its a dreadfully scary critter. Nice plug Louise
  4. Now see I dunno................... ............ I think that maybe Dumbledore had advanced warning from Snape that Malfoy was tasked with killing him - he'd know since he agreed to help out. I think a shield jinx or potion (you know how the half-blood prince likes his potions) protected Dumbledore - though he did fall off the tower too. But then the tears of the phoenix are curative............ ooooooh the possibilities Personally I don't think Harry is a Horcrux - the original story is aimed at kids and killing off Harry would be a bit of a let down I reckon. That's my few pennies worth
  5. I enjoyed all of his books I have read. I can't tell you have of the titles, but Watchers was one of them.
  6. Stephen King - awesome author, came to give a talk to our society at Uni. IT is an awesome book, completely let down by the film. I remember being scared witless by the book - completely engaged.
  7. A highly recommended author.
  8. This one of those authors that I see but havent read yet. I did get the Assassin trilogy through my book-club but have yet to read it.
  9. It took me a while to get round to reading a "Kids book" but haven't regretted it since. The stories have enough depth and the characters are deep enough that it makes a fun read.
  10. This is a series where I am enraptured by the setting and the Fantasy World. The books are great, and there are insights into character, but as you say it takes a lot to keep a story interesting over 12 volumes and I think it's struggling. He needed the pre-quel for breathing room I reckon - maybe taking longer on the 13th will improve it? Who knows. Whichever it is wont stop me buying it.
  11. A few years back I'd have thought it a bit odd to have more than one book at a time. But, recently, I have gotten bogged down in a "boring" part of a book and had to take a "refresher" by trying something else.
