  1. Dragon Keeper and Dragon Haven work well on their own - apparently they were originally one book, which she split into two. She is working on further books in the Rain Wild Chronicles, but you won't find yourself waiting for them, and the first two work fine.
  2. Janet, I often go through my shelves, and give some away. It's surprising really - there are books which I thought I really wanted to read, but they get left on the shelf, and when I look again, they don't appeal!
  3. Thank you Tiger. :) I hope all is well with you?

  4. Thank you! x

  5. Thank you! Oh.. and thank you for the cheery ecard!

  6. Thank you. I'm waiting for the girls to finish school, then we're off out to eat!

  7. Inver, it's quite a long read, but if he likes fantasy and dragons, he may be ok. Ghost of a Chance is reviewed here.. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. Although this is quite tame compared to the William Hussey books, it's quite creepy, and this genre of YA horror seems to becoming more popular again. Another in this vein is my new currant read, Dancing Jax by Robin Jarvis. This one has been a bit odd.. I wasn't at all sure during the beginning of the book, but suddenly it grabbed me, and I'm now whizzing through! I'm just annoyed that my copy is a proof, and is different from the one on amazon!
  8. I have come across something very frustrating with audiobooks. I really want to listen to The Ship of Magic, rather than read it.. mainly because it's a rather large book, and I prefer listening to fantasy titles. I can buy the physical book, and I can buy the audiobook on CD (at least £25), but to be able to download it, I have to be in the US! I can't understand why the publishing rights for this country would cover a physical book, a CD, but not a download?
  9. You are a reading machine!
  10. Chrissy, I am SO glad you enjoyed this!
  11. I agree, it is a big switch. In fact I was saying on twitter the other day that it almost fills like two separate stories - but it is drawn together at the end, when Amy becomes important again.
  12. It's really interesting to see a book such as Therapy get mixed reviews. Personally, I loved it, and couldn't put it down.
  13. Sorry Vanessa, your site isn't suitable to be advertised on here.

  14. Well I did a good job of keeping this updated! *runs off to LibraryThing to check what I've read... Read so far: Ministry of Pandemonium by Chris Westwood - I still haven't reviewed this one! Numbers by Rachel Ward - This seemed to have great potential, but went off in a different direction. It was good, but I'm not sure I'll bother with the 2nd book in the series. Dragon Keeper by Robin Hobb (audio) - The important thing to realise with this is that you have to read part 2, Dragon Haven, to get the full story. It's pretty much one long story split into two books. If I was reading these I may have found them too long, but as an audio book it's been fine. It's a world I'll be sad to leave behind, especially the dragons, and I may have to get hold of more Robin Hobb. (I have about 30 mins left of Dragon Haven, so I can't comment on the actual ending yet, but I think I can pretty much predict it.) Witchfinder: Gallows at Twilight by William Hussey - This is the second book in the trilogy, and the better of the two books. Highly recommended. http://bcfreviews.wo...william-hussey/ Before I Go To Sleep by S J Watson - Excellent, clever thriller - published April 2011, and one to watch out for! http://www.bookclubf...eep-s-j-watson/ Cuckoo by Julia Crouch - Another brilliant debut.. dark and unsettling. http://bcfreviews.wo...y-julia-crouch/ Readng: Ghost of a Chance by Rhiannon Lassiter(YA) Witness the Night by Kishwar Desai A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

  16. It does help, thank you.
  17. I'm very tempted to go for the Liveship trilogy.. would that completely ruin the whole series for me?
  18. Thank you Pixie (that was the name of my childhood cat! ) - I have a feeling I gave the first book try a while ago, and couldn't get into it.. but it may be worth a second go!
  19. Hi Travis - new members are not allowed to post links, or to mention another site which may be seen as promotion.

  20. I've been listening to Dragon Keeper and Dragon Haven, and it's my first introduction to Robin Hobb. It sounds as if the other trilogies may be even better? It was the dragons which attracted me to this series. Knowing now what the 'liveships' are, are dragons featured in any of her other books?
  21. Lucy, I was thinking of doing that as well, but I thought it would be nice to have somewhere where I could put details.
  22. Cuckoo tells the story of Rose, a woman who seems to have it all. She’s put a difficult past behind her, and has worked hard to build her perfect life. She has her husband, two children she adores, and the country house she’s always dreamed of. This life is soon interrupted by a call from Greece, when her best friend Polly calls to say her husband has died. Rose immediately invites her to stay with them, against her own husband’s wishes, but has she made a big mistake? Polly is obviously very troubled, and whilst they seem complete opposites, they obviously shared a troubled past, and there are very close ties.. although some of those ties appear to include subtle blackmail! Rose’s life gradually falls apart.. her baby becomes ill, her husband becomes distant, then Rose herself falls ill. Just how much of this is being caused by Polly is unclear.. and for me, that’s the genius of this book. The whole story is told purely from Rose’s point of view, and we are never shown what others are truly doing or thinking. This means we share with her every step of her uncertainty, confusion, and growing fear. Cuckoo is a dark, unsettling read. As Rose’s life spirals out of control, you share every step. It’s very hard to put down, and has stayed with me since finishing. It’s a brilliant debut, which is highly recommended.
  23. I've just started a new blog - it's mainly to keep track of my headaches, look for triggers etc, but I shall have a general ramble on there from time to time as well. I'd welcome comments and thoughts from fellow sufferers. http://mjmakingsense.blogspot.com/
