  1.   My boss told me not to go to work because he didn't want to catch it - ironic, because I think I caught it from others who had been in the office

I'm so jealous of this type of boss. We have to be on our death beds before they feel we should take time off - and even then they don't pay us for it!

  2. I agree with the disappointment - although I did enjoy Jamie's character. Maybe it had been hyped up too much.. I'd seen comments of twitter from early readers who said it was his best yet! On the other hand, I put off Mr Mercedes for a while, because I didn't think I'd like it, and I did.

  3. I've just finished Revival - I quite enjoyed it on the whole, but was also a bit disappointed. I like King when he's telling someone's story, and I felt connected with Jamie. I wasn't so keen on the development of Jacob, and I thought the ending didn't quite gel with the rest of the book.

I had high hopes for this, but I actually preferred Mr Mercedes - you might enjoy that one too.

  4. I've just finished book 58, and my audiobook, Revival, is nearly finished, so I should make 60 books by the end of the year. :)

I decided to try Angelfall by Susan Ee, after being persuaded that there wasn't a silly romance in it. I loved it, and went straight on to the 2nd book, World After. I'll review properly soon, but it's definitely recommended. I guess it's officially YA, but it had me gripped. :)

  5. I see Haig's come out with a new book, Echo Boy! They have copies at the library, good stuff :)

Hm, the book's been out since March 2014, and yet I see no one's mentioned it on this thread....

Edit: No one's mentioned To Be a Cat, either! :o

I have both of these upstairs, but haven't gotten to them yet.

  7. I've just finished listening to this, and I really liked it. Brady was a disturbing character, and for me, I was Hodges I liked the best.

    As for the ending..

In the audio, he wakes up and aske for his mother, and then there's a blast of music. Was there anything in the book about music, or was that just something they added?

  8. I keep adding books to my read list, without making comments. I've just finished book 56, and I'm wondering if I can make it to 60 by the end of year. I keep going through phases of starting a book/audiobook and giving up on it, so I can't be sure.

I think my last few, since posting are:

The Reviver by Seth Patrick - review
No One Gets Out Alive by Adam Nevill - review
Florence and Giles by John Harding - interesting, I keep meaning to write my review..
Venus by Ben Bova - I can't remember much of this one, to be honest!
Coping with Headaches and Migraines by Alison Frith
My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga - review
Endgame: The Calling by James Frey - pretty good, quite addictive, looking forward to the second one!

Ghosts of Heaven by Marcus Sedgewick - very thought provoking, will probably re-read.

Mr Mercedes by Stephen King (audio) - a good offering from Mr King - recommended.

  9. For me, I was trying to decide between hardback and ebook - and as they were the same price, I went for the hardback. If the ebook had started off at £2.99 (or I knew it was going to drop) I would have made a different decision.

As it is, I'm not even reading yet, so I don't know why I rushed to get it! sigh...

  10. This is something I've seen a few times on twitter, and I've just had a go at setting up my own. The basic idea is that you set up a 'bookshop' with 12 books of your choosing.. you can go for a specific genre, share you last few reads, or go for your favourites.. and you can change them at any time.

Then, when people take a look, if they want to buy a particular book, it goes through hive, so it's good if you want to help indepndent bookshops as well.

So, for anyone who wants something else bookish to play with, it's https://www.myindependentbookshop.co.uk/ (and mine is https://www.myindependentbookshop.co.uk/MJMoore) :)
