After Beowulf rips off Grendel's arm, it’s not clear what happens to the rest of his body. It seems like Grendel's mother takes it back to her lair. When Beowulf later beheads Grendel, it symbolizes his victory over both Grendel and his mother, even if the details are a bit vague.
