The MC is really the selling point of this series, he is a walking trauma. Part of the desire to keep reading is to see him destroy the creatures that ruined his life. The other is hoping that he will overcome his emotional scars and be able to connect with people again. The biggest drawback from me is that the characters all have generic names. The writer wrote it as if it was taking place in the world of dungeons and dragons or so I've heard. It's hard to take dialogue seriously when it's coming from someone named Cow Girl. I'm reading the year one series right now that gives some backstory on the characters.

My names Ran, I'm an author and reader. Some of my favorite authors are Charles Dickens, Robert E. Howard, Ayn Rand, H.P. Lovecraft, Tolkien, Clive Barker. Horror, thriller, fantasy and sci-fi are definitely my preferred genres. If there is a well crafted romance inserted then I am even more intrigued. My day job is in construction and when I'm not writing I stream games online, build things read books and manga and watch anime.
