  1. "In the moonlight, the scaffold appears to be made of bleached bones from one of the leviathans that washed up on our shores from time to time to general alarm, for what godly world encompasses such creatures?" - The Secret History of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer by Lucy Weston
  2. Neither have I. I have had many wasp stings and I have participated in archery, but I haven't had the opportunity to experience both at once. Never have I laughed yogurt through my nose.
  3. I am in the snow, about to embark in a final climactic battle above a great Wall. (No, not Game of Thrones. Sabriel by Garth Nix)
  4. The only poem I ever memorized was for extra credit in a high school English class. I will always remember because I blanked out on the last half of it in front of everyone and my teacher wouldn't allow me to go back to my seat until I remembered the rest. Eventually he realized that there was no way I was going to continue so he let me sit down. But I still had to stand for close to five minutes in silence. Therefore I hesitate to try memorizing any more.
  5. I love his vlogbrothers channel, but I've never enjoyed any of his books other than The Fault in Our Stars. I love his writing and the wit he brings to his stories, but I can never find myself caring about the characters. I've tried Paper Towns, Abundances of Katherines and Looking for Alaska and none of them clicked for me.
  6. At least you figured out early that you didn't want to finish it and didn't waste your time. If it wasn't captivating then, then chances are it won't hook you later.
  7. I'm kind of late to the discussion, but this is something I love to talk about. I think that as long as people are going to buy these celebrity's books en mass then the industry will keep publishing them because they have no reason not to. If the publishing industry is making a lot of money off of those books they might be able to also take on new authors on a smaller scale because they know they can cover the cost. An epidemic going on now is youtuber books. Every single big youtuber is coming out with their own life story, but I think that most of them are doing quite a bit of writing. None of their books seem particularly long, and they're probably padded with photos, so it's just my assumption. Finally, going back to the original topic, I would rather have a ghostwriter write a celebrity's novel than the celebrities themselves because they probably don't have the time or the talent to do it themselves. If someone else is hired to write it than chances are they are going to be pretty good. People will always want to know more about celebrities so if, in this case, it is giving the publishing industry more money to support smaller authors, and giving ghostwriters (who might be struggling new authors as well) some exposure, then I am all for it. As long as they're being honest.
  8. Most of my experience with him has come from his Maximum Ride series which I loved growing up. But then the series kept expanding with no true story lines so they stopped being as captivating as the first ones. I was like all the things that made the original series was gone. Also, I am aware that he uses ghostwriters but I'm pretty sure that this series in particular he wrote by himself. My dad read another one by him called Zoo with a cool premise but he said that the writing was nothing special. So James Patterson came up with a great concept but left the writing to someone who wasn't skilled enough to pull it off. I guess that's the risk when you aren't writing your own books.
  9. What I heard was that he wrote the entire story from start to finish before he got anything published so he just thoroughly edits what he's already written because a lot of the beginning changed when he published the first book. I have been rabidly stalking his blog for any mention of his upcoming book for months now but there doesn't seem to be anything. He's been pretty busy with a Kickstarter for a game from the kingkiller world. Anyways, these are my favourite books so I will wait for an eternity if it means it will be as awesome as the previous two.
  10. I completely agree with you there. I watched the movie first and the next day I went out, bought the book, and didn't stop reading until I had finished it. There is something so intoxicating about the story and the characters that it's impossible to stop. Recently I've thought about rereading it as well but then I look at all the books I still have to read and I know that won't happen.
  11. I had to put that book down because I felt as though everyone had the same name. I was getting so confused on what was happening and since I didn't care about any of the characters, it was not hard to stop reading it.
  12. I had similar feelings myself last season but it has definitely picked up again. I suggest you give it one more chance. I find that marathoning the episodes makes them feel much more cohesive because there are so many moving parts with so many characters that they can't fully develop many story lines in one episode. Plus, you have made it this far so you can't turn back down.
  13. I used to buy books often but I have managed to slow down recently. I tend to only buy from big brand bookstores when I have a specific book I am dying to buy. Otherwise I enjoy going to second hand book stores because I can buy a couple without worrying whether I will like them a lot because they didn't cost very much. Strangely, I feel as though I need to love every book I buy new because I don't want to think that I've wasted my money.
  14. I think it's really cool that Harry Potter can be experienced through a new medium. I have never read plays before (other than the ones we had to for high school) so I am excited!
