  1. This was actually quite a tough one. It was difficult for me to separate someone who wrote a book that I've liked from someone whose writing is really my favorite. As such, my list didn't make it to ten, but it's a solid list of authors whose work I am pretty much guaranteed to like. Jasper Fforde Alan Bradley Higashino Keigo Masha Hamilton Margaret Atwood Louisa May Alcott M.R. Carey (coming to be...it's 2 for 2 with him so far, so it's a bit early to tell, but there's definitely promise.)
  2. Good. It had a very unique premise. I have Touch on the bookshelf ready to go. I'm looking forward to it.
  3. I haven't really tracked what I've been reading this year, and sadly I haven't read much. Here's a list of the few things I have squeezed in: The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August by Claire North The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald The Transcriptionist by Amy Rowland The Princess Bride by William Goldman The Devotion of Suspect X by Higashino Keigo
  4. Welcome! Plenty of bookaholics around here -- although I think you'll find that we're all a bunch of enablers.
  5. Ha! I'm getting ready to go make my iced coffee.
  6. I just started watching The Good Wife. I'm really enjoying it. I don't really know why I never wanted to watch it before because it's fantastic.
  7. I picture the whole person, but impressions of their faces as opposed to features -- expressions, really. The scenery is quite detailed, to the point where I look around in it from the character's perspective as I'm reading. I suppose that's why I prefer a character-driven book and why strong connections to the characters are so important to me.
  8. I love iced coffee. I use Bustello and milk over ice. So good.
  9. A handful of Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips leftover from a recipe the other day.
  10. I don't listen to music as I read, but I do associate the theme song from the Harry Potter movies with the books, sort of thinking it in my head, if that makes sense. I can't think of another book I do that with, though. As I read, I do picture the narrative in my head like a movie. I'm not sure if others do that.
  11. Welcome! It's very homey here, and is a lovely lovely crowd, as you said. Looking forward to talking books with you.
  12. It's so good, isn't it? The hardcover is on BookOutlet right now for only USD$6.99.
  13. Hmm...old thread, good topic. In addition to other great suggestions, The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood.
  14. Wild Swans is fantastic. Here are two of my favorites: Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Cheng Three Inch Golden Lotus by Feng Jicai
  15. I wound up going to the beach yesterday. It was an out of the way spot that wasn't overly crowded despite the holiday weekend here in the States.
  16. I downloaded the Kindle sample, and I loved it. I'm going to get the book to take to the beach with me tomorrow.
  17. Ooh...how's it going so far? I really enjoyed The Girl With All the Gifts.
  18. I agree, it's definitely one of his best and one of my absolute favorites. My husband and I were just talking about the soundtrack being part of what makes the movie.
  19. Just finished re-watching The Truman Show. Love that movie.
  20. I'm binge-watching a sci-fi series called Humans. Loving it.
  21. What a great idea! There are a lot of great books on the list. Good luck with your challenge.
  22. So funny -- what are the chances! Congratulations to both you and your friend.
  23. Okay, your first line got me. Should I be reading this? The first line says yes.
