Author: Elie Wiesel Title: Memoirs: All Rivers Run to the Sea Genre: Autobiography Format: Kindle Pages: 432 Book # 45 for this year Rating: 4/5 When writing his memoirs (part 1), Elie Wiesel had people accuse him of not being able convey into words some of his experiences. Indeed, Wiesel himself has described them as incommunicable. And yet. His two favorite words, And yet. “Applicable to every situation, be it happy or bleak. The sun is rising? And yet it will set. A night of anguish? And yet, it too, will pass.” Wiesel defends his choice to write a memoir, “Precisely because death awaits us in the end, we must live fully. Precisely because an event seems devoid of meaning, we must give it one. Precisely because the future eludes us, we must create it.” Thus, begins Elie Wiesel’s All Rivers Run to the Sea. At the age of 85 and over 50 books to his name, Wiesel writes an amazing memoir. In only his own elegant way, barely touching his concentration camp experience, he instead focuses on his faith, the history and struggles of Israel, his plight to become a writer and the amazing man he has become.

If you liked Heart Shaped Box, you are in for a treat with Horns and NOS4A2! Joe Hill is probably in my top 5 favorite authors right now and has been since I read Heart Shaped Box and Horns (Horns really did it for me). He has a host of Kindle Shorts too, some with his dad, too. I have Wool in my Kindle Sample pile- Amazon is always on me for it...so I'm just skimming the Graphic Novel review. Good jobs (My review for NOS4A2 is here, a 5/5 for me http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/12425-annas-books-for-2014/page-5?hl= anna nos4a2 )

I totally give you props for reading Irvine Welsh!
-
Claire- you read so much it makes me jealous! I will look into some of those, I've never been a big series reader. Thanks for posting some of the choices! I can already tell just from the synopsis that the Patrick Ness book sounds good to me. There's a lot of tough categories coming up...do they do this every month? It makes me want to get a twitter account. I mean, I don't have to post, right? I can just lurk about?

Hey Frankie- do you really think that Dexter

Today is The Sequel was even better than the first... I don't read many series, so I'm not sure? Anyone have ideas/ thoughts?

Your shelves look better than a book store- thanks for posting! I don't/can't have a facebook, so I appreciate it! Your photo's are amazing.

Oh no- the box of death Just make sure the old friends meet the new ones Those are some pretty impressive piles and cases!

Aw! You can never have too many books- just not enough space lol Good to see you back around *waves from CA* With everything going on here, I'm pretty stalled in my reading. After my move several years ago, I still have boxes of books in the garage. They are just there, crying out for me! I don't think I have 2000, but I do have a lot! The last few times I moved, my friends and family flat out refused to carry anymore books lmao. Its my dream to change my garage into a study and fill it with book shelves for them all. I know you'll find a new, comfy spot to read in , no mater where you are!

Divergent / Insurgent / Allegiant - Veronica Roth
Anna Begins replied to Michelle's topic in Children's / Young Adult
I've read Free Four and The Initiate. I am mixed as well on them. Free Four was super short and is include in the paperback (I believe), it is his account of the knife throwing scene. The Initiate I gave 2/5 or 3/5. That being said, I'd read them, just out of curiosity. I'm thinking for a read-a-thon, as they are all pretty short. -
Oldies that has NOT stood the test of time

Can we also add books that haven't withstood the test of time? My teacher referenced this, but I couldn't think of anything. I guess because I normally take into account when the book was written/ published as a factor when reading. I usually find books ahead of their time, not behind. -
They are trying to close Lombard Street (crookedest) to cars. Like having a mass of people walk by your house every minute of the day is so much better. I hate roundabouts.

Don't you love when that happens? It's happened to me a few times this year (Pillars of the Earth comes to mind). That was quick! I thought you just started it! Sounds really interesting- a topic I know absolutely nothing about. And thanks for the personal input about your friends- I love hearing that kind of stuff- what people are really saying, ya know? Can't wait to have you in NY! I'll be 3000 miles away, but I'll wave anyway.

What a relief that is! I'd hate to give away my books. Your apartment sounds awesome- I love having a big porch/ deck area in an Apartment/flat. Gives you one extra place to just chill. Edit: Dexter:

Oldies that has NOT stood the test of time
Anna Begins replied to emelee's topic in Music / TV / Films
I never watched them first run, but now if I catch a segment or so in syndication of Seinfeld or Friends, they are SO outdated! I'll always watch 90210 though My mom was just saying what a funny movie 2001 Space Odyssey has become. -
Aw! But he was so cute! The puppy and Barker Actually, I could hardly speak to him coherently as well! The first time he gave a lecture, then a signing. He said, "Ah- you've brought the plays then?" And I went "I'm really into theaturrrrr" duh. I just couldn't get over the fact he was my favorite writer at the time and he was sitting right there in front of me! Plus, he had just come out with Galilee and I brought Forms of Heaven, so it sort of singled me out. Everyone wanted Imagica signed (which I did later, at a reading for Abarat, he signed as many books as you wanted, even posters of his art). He was/ is WAY cool.

Gottcha! It was a tie for me then. I think I almost said Starring Sally J Freedman as Herself, by Judy Blume, as that was the first book I really remember being into. I must've read that book 5 times when I was 11-12! But I thought it was too out of date and too girly to be chosen.

I'm liking it! I watched 1/2 the first episode, before I didn't want too much given away from the book. I started the Kindle Sample this am and liked it too but stopped . Then I was thinking- which first? I thought I could do both but from what I've read/ seen so far, the series sticks pretty close to the books, and I think I remember you said that in the bookadayuk thread. I usually always read the book first before a movie, but recently am going to change this as I get let down by the movie. I like all the internal stuff that the character can't do on the screen. Still, I dunno if I want to read it and be prepared for the series or just grin and bear it through one closed eye as I watch

I've been debating these two for a day or two, but in the end, I had to go against Divergent, just because I felt

*Deep breath* I'm going to say Hunger Games. Simply, I just loved it. It's good for both genders, is enjoyed by YA and adult and gets them all excited. Katniss is a great protagonist and all the characters are strong ones- even the characters that are not main characters, ie- some of the other District competitors. It's dark, but not too dark and although grim, not too depressing. As a stand alone or with the whole trilogy, they are all easy reads and good-IMO the sequels as good as the first. Plus, the movies and books complement each other very well. I did compare it with Divergent, but I think the story is better with Hunger Games. And then, the movie part too. If someday, with one of these more popular topics, could you just list a few that are mentioned? I don't mean like a huge list, but maybe a few you think are interesting? Don't have to comment, I'm just curious and looking for diverse recommendations; I'll look em all up myself; but for personal reasons, I can't have a Twitter, Facebook, etc. Probably not a Goodreads either.
