He was really cool- I love that he had his own queen bed! How on earth could you sleep with a dog like that Although I would try (another plus to being single lol) I love his "blue" color too! Gosh I love dogs

Here it is just school , school and school work! Peri's birthday is this month too. I also have to save up for my mom's Christmas present. We sorta combine our finances, so I want to buy it next month- as the missing money would be suspicious in November or December (Its a collector edition of her favorite, Count of Monte Cristo, which she shared with my brother). Ugh- enrolling kids in school is a big, fat pain! You need Labor Day off!!

You mean THIS George??? I remember him in the news!

Altruistic Suicide- From wiki Altruistic suicide is suicide committed for the benefit of others. Falling on a grenade is one such example or some noted tribal people sometimes see it as their duty to commit suicide, as when a wife kills herself after her husband dies, or a man kills himself in old age. Altruistic suicide has a long history in India, even being noted in the Dharmashastras. Some perceive self- immolation as an altruistic or "worthy" suicide. Hm. Never heard of that before. Only a Chuck Palahniuk book, right? Also learned: Magic realism- From Wiki: is a genre where magic elements are a natural part in an otherwise mundane, realistic environment. Although it is most commonly used as a literary genre, magic realism also applies to film and the visual arts. The term is broadly descriptive rather than critically rigorous: Professor Matthew Strecher defines magic realism as "what happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe.

I read long books! And I usually start them after the read- a- thons, take a break during the book for the read- a - thon or just simply use that as my read-a- thon book. I mean, the purpose is to see how much you can read in a certain amount of time, right? So, really, you could do it either way. Sometimes, I've even read two books and switched off.

Just finished some more short stories from Burnt Tongues. I can already tell, I'd recommend this to someone who likes the bizarre and different. That sounds interesting- I love short stories. I'm getting the sample and when I check it out, maybe my dad and I can read it at the same time- although he reads much faster than I do! I'd really have to step it up! I'll wait for your review!
-
Hmmmm... pretty safe to say, nearly everyone on here has read it.
-
Interesting, I did not know the term! I rejected The Bone Clocks for that reason. In fact, it turned me off so, I reconsidered reading Cloud Atlas out of fear!
-
I went to Amazon and got the sample for this- it sounds good- looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
-
I'm glad you liked it! I can't wait to get to Trainspotting. ^^ sounds... um... different lol Is it in Scottish too?
-
Good guess, but mine is mid 20th Century. Here is a clue- it's SF and another genre (that would give it away).

I don't post, just lurk! I like seeing what everyone else picks- I even got some suggestions from it. And during the Earthquake, Twitter was a blaze with tweets on it, it was very informative. I haven't really looked around that much though, although I want to find more books sites. Tomorrow is Best Book of the Month... I think I know what you'd choose I wish more people would've done yesterday- Was totally worth the Hype. I think I might have picked Pillars of the Earth for that one, but some days, I just like to meditate on the topic. Today is best back to school book and I'm not sure what that means!
-
I like it! Did you write in Dutch and then Translate or did you write in English? In any case, I think you organized it well and stuck to the topic with supporting claims throughout.

Great review! If I liked more SF, I would totally give it a go! It sounds like something you'd like- with the gaming and all.

I'm in a Chuck Palahniuk mood lately, so maybe Choke or Rant: The Oral Biography of Buster Casey. Both are short, under 350 pages. Maybe I can read them both It'd be 638 pages, I don't think I can do that in 3 days! Hopefully I will be done with Burnt Tongues by then, but if not, I'll finish it and then read one of the above. I should have all my school work done by then! I have a lot!

I missed this one on Jeopardy tonight Final Jeopardy (none of the people got it either) Category: 20th Century Novel Quotes Question: "It was one of those pictures... so contrived that the eyes follow you...beneath." (The picture was this 5 word quote.) Anyone guess?

I just started Burt Tongues, a collection of transgressive fiction short stories. The first two have been really good- the stories were picked by Chuck Palahniuk. Is the trilogy more like short stories? Amazon has it listed as 390 pages- is that right? Ahhh- I want to read this so bad! Oh- hey- didn't you say you read the Once trilogy? How good is the 3rd book?
-
I'm glad you say that because everyone I know loved it and bought it, but they didn't read the book! I didn't mind the movie, but wish it wasn't called WWZ. I read it twice and still talk about a zombie apocalypse- in jest, mind you lol- my mom thinks I'm nuts, I probably am Woohoo for grandma- a gift voucher is the best present of all! I hope you like Horns as much as I did (my cover is totally different and the new one is a movie cover ) and I have Wool coming up as soon as I can!
-
I heard about that volcano and thought of you and your trip! My mom's life dream is to see the Northern Lights- have you seen them before?
-
Don't you just love when that happens? Here it is 21 and I'm like, Ummm I do not look 20! I'm glad you are connecting with all your friends! How far is it to Helsinki? I assume you take the train... wish we had some trains in the US...

Here is the one for August- today is it was totally worth the hype. https://twitter.com/sdowdtrust/status/495307673400016896 And here is the one for September, although the font is small, I think they will make it larger September 1st. I don't know why it is so ridiculously small! https://twitter.com/welovethisbook/status/505306762170601472/photo/1 Here is the link for what people are saying today- just search on Twitter for bookadayuk. https://twitter.com/hashtag/bookadayuk?src=hash

I don't think I wish to read this book a second time Maybe it's time to finish up the Once series. Anyone read the third one?
-
Oh, hon, I'd totally read to you if I was there! I am sorry you are in so much pain.
