  1. I popped into my local charity shop yesterday and bought 7 Roald Dahl books in excellent condition. After I have persuaded my husband to read 'Danny The Champion Of The World' II think he will love it!)I will be giving them to my great-nephews when we next visit - they are 12 years old 8 years old and are book happy kids, so I always want to encourage them.

Ah, the joy of finding just the right books in charity shops! :D

And finding children's' books in charity shops are so rare, they're like hen's teeth! :giggle2:

I hope your great-nephews will love the Roald Dahl books - that is another feeling of a warm glow when they love books too :D

  2. Went a bit book crazy with the cheap and freebie eBook store   :blush2:  :giggle2:  :rolol:

  3. I started to read The Plague by Albert Camus on the train yesterday. Its a little slow going in places but I am really liking it so far.

Camus's The Plague is one of my favourite books , and it is a 'slow burner' type of book, but is one that stayed in my mind for a long time. I hope you enjoy it, as is worth the effort in the end.

  4. Welcome to the BCF bballuk

...and the original Sherlock Holmes books.

I have only just stared reading the Sherlock Holmes books recently  :blush2:, but I wish I had read them earlier - they were the beginning of forensic science

I hope that you enjoy the Forums.

  5. Wow, I'm impressed! I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you will like the book  But no pressure! :)

Well, at first I was having problems getting into Purge:unsure: .Especially with the odd notes of Hans Pekka's diary, but now that I'm reading about Aliide's '1930-40's history, its more easier to understand her actions. Now the novel is intriguing me .

But it is not going to be a 'feel good' sort of book, is it?

  6. Welcome to the forums, Sernicki.

You enjoy a variety of genres  , so you should fit in a lot of threads in the forums.

I hope that you enjoy the forums, and there are so many members who love reading, and love to talk about them! :D

  7.

Yorkshire: Wuthering Heights seems like a perfect choice to me.  The only other thought I'd had might have been one of the James Herriot books.  Any other suggestions?

Cornwall: Daphne Du Maurier seems like she ought to get the Cornish vote, so the options Kay suggested are Jamaica Inn or My Cousin Rachel.  Thoughts?

Kent: The Darling Buds of May by HE Bates.  I've certainly heard of this one, so I'm happy to be convinced, unless anyone else can offer an alternative?

I think that it might be good to start with English counties, but add further threads for Welsh, Scottish and Irish counties.

Since I've never read Wuthering Heights, but recently I got a freebie ebook version, it would ideal for me to read Wuthering Heights for Yorkshire.

I think that the suggestions for the other counties Yorkshire, Cornwall, Kent and Gloucestershire are good. I haven't read any of them, which is odd as they are 'classic' British novels! :blush2:  :giggle2:

  8. I don't think I've ever laughed so much at Mel and Sue as I did last week :D .. hilarious .. I could watch them forever :)

That was the best part of that bake off, they took it lightly, which is a good attitude. :I-Agree:

Beautifully put, Poppyshake  :D about Paul & Mary being partial against everyone but Ruby, AGAIN!. :I-Agree: They reminded me of being at school, with P & M being those nasty bitches, who were really 'popular'

I hope that it will work out in the end, and I will be cheering " Go Beverley" :e010:  this week.

But, ou est le cardie de Ruby?  :giggle2:

  9. Have read 21% of A Tale for the Time Being. It's good, so far.

I'm struggling with Morrissey's Autobiography - it's like reading a very long Morrissey lyric  :(. There doesn't seem to have any paragraphs, just streams-of-conciousness as each chapters. Plus, there is no Table of Contents in this eBook, so I feel a bit disoriented reading this book.

Edit: I am a fan of Morrissey, but I am surprised that Penguin Books has brought out his autobiography as a Penguin Classic.

  10. hello bizzarebird.

I have a Kobo Glo, and I wouldn't live without it now, but it's only a few months I've had it, and have never had any e-reader before, so I can't help you as to give you any comparison with other e-readers.

I think that the battery life is very good, compared to some of the others that I've heard of. On paper, the battery should last you two months,( If you don't use the backlight),and one month If you do use the backlight. So far, that seems to be the case with mine.

So technically it's a good e-reader for me. The only thing that does bug me is that their library is huge, but I think it is limited for me.They say that they have millions on their library, but there's an awful lot of trashy stuff in it. As an example, I tried to find Simone de Beauvoir's She Came to Stay, but they didn't have it on the library.
