I tend to use the "Want to Read" as more of a wishlist. But I also own a lot less books than all of you that have commented. I only own around 100 or less and a lot of those are books that I've already read, so it's a lot easier for me to use the "Want to Read" as a wishlist and something I can pull up when I am looking for books to check out from the library.
However if they did have two different labels, TBR and wishlist, I wouldn't be opposed to using those and being a little more organized.

Reading those facts only made me sad. And a little angry at not knowing how Sherman-Palladino wanted it to end. I always thought the final season was somewhat subpar and that explains why. I hadn't realized that the producer had quit.

I agree about reading from a book as well, but the challenge would be finding the collections at an affordable price, but I'm just a bystander and whatever the group wants to do, I would go along with.

I got sick two weeks ago, so I have been recovering and catching up on the week of school I missed which caused me to neglect my reading and posting. I'm hoping to get back in track this coming week.

I've got The Giver on my TBR list as well. I'd heard about it for a long time before I bought it but never realised it was a dystopian novel. Once I realised that, I bought it.
Glad you enjoyed it. I might have to bump it up my TBR pile.
I was the same way. For some reason I thought it was about World War 2. I got three pages in and realized it definitely was not about WWII
I really enjoyed Wuthering Heights. It was a surprising book for me, because I was expecting a love story and got something much darker and twisted.
Like Frankie, I've only read the first book in The Giver trilogy as well. I have the others on my TBR pile, but it's been so long since I read The Giver that I'll probably need to re-read it before I can read the others!
I agree about Wuthering Heights. I thought it would be a love story as well and as I got further and further into the book it got darker and more complex. I definitely enjoyed it because of the fact that it isn't a typical love story, but more real and a bit horrific.

I think the Tri-Wizard tournament is done way better in the book than in the movie. I've always been pretty accommodating of the changes made in the movies, but probably my biggest problem out of all 7 books/8 movies is the way the Tri-Wizard tournament was handled. The dragon task went way too long for my liking, and the maze was just glossed over in the movie, but it was much more involved in the book. The fourth book is possibly my favourite of the series. So glad you're enjoying the series more this time 'round.
I agree. The scenes from the Tri-Wizard are so much more intense and better written in the books, especially the maze. I remember my heart beating like crazy while reading that part of the book, but when I saw it in the movie I was "meh".
Books are always better

You've got some great reads on your TBR this year!
I hope you have a great reading year and that it's better than your 2014 was

I'm glad you liked Water for Elephants! The Giver is on my list for this year, so I didn't read that review, but did see all your stars
Thanks! It was a great read.
I try to keep my reviews spoiler free if that is the reason behind you not reading it
But I understand not wanting anything given away. I'd like to hear how you like it when you get around to reading it!

The Giver by Lois Lowry
Summary
Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There are no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community. When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now, it is time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

For some reason the plot in this book is not what I expected from what I've heard about the novel. I'm not sure if the plot of this book got mixed up with another in my head, but I didn't know this book was a sort of dystopian novel. After I discovered this, I really enjoyed the book.
All dystopians give you a lot to think about and this one didn't disappoint. The plot was great and kept me interested the whole way through. I enjoyed the characters and the setting that the author came up with was fabulous and intriguing.
What I am wondering is how this book connects with the rest of the books in the series. I read the summary of the next book and its about a completely different character. Can someone who has read the whole series explain this to me? Is each book about different characters?

Good luck on your reading this year!!
Some interesting reads on your TBR, especially Rebecca, The Picture of Dorian Gray, and Of Mice and Men.
I read Rebecca and really enjoyed it, the other two are on my TBR and I'm really looking forward to them

Wow! Sounds like an interesting book. I agree the cover is very intriguing and would make me want to pick it up too

The thing that amazes me is how Rory has time to watch movies with her mom, go to the diner, go to a prestigious high school (and later college), have friends, AND read all the books she does.
Oh to live in a fictional world...

I read all the books, but for some reason I got bored and tired of the show about halfway through the third season. Did anyone else have this issue? I know that the end of season 3 has some great stuff in it, but I just couldn't keep going.
Maybe it was because I already know what happens. I don't know. I'm kind of disappointed...

I would definitely be interested. I think it makes reading poetry less intimidating when you're reading it at the same time as others and can discuss it.
Reading more poetry is one of my goals for this year, so this would be a great way to get myself started. Great suggestion!

I'm cutting back.......(and if you believe that, I have some
swamper, farm land I'd like to sell you).Totally off topic, but I love that snowball fight emoticon. I've never noticed it before

Great book - enjoy!
Thanks! I really did enjoy it
I've finally finished Game of Thrones - what a journey that has been
I've immediately downloaded the second in the series but will wait a while before starting that one I think!
Now starting The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom.
Game of Thrones is great. The series is so addicting, but so time consuming considering its like 4000 pages
It'll take me a few days as a busy term is about to start. I'm about 100 pages in so far, and it's excellent: highly readable, yet rigorous on the history - and well balanced, fully recognising the multinational involvement. I like the fact that it's split into short chapters, providing neat reading breaks not too far apart!
Highly readable and rigorous on the history. Sounds perfect to me!
I have finished Water for Elephants and I'm now reading The Giver I'm on a solid 1 book a day quip for 2015. I doubt this pace will last

On Friday I read all of Water for Elephants which was 327 pages
Then I read about 30 pages of The Giver before going to sleep.
So a total of around 350 pages for Friday
Today I'm reading The Giver and I anticipate that I'll finish it and get well into another book before the night is over.

Dystopian novels are great from what I've read. Curious to see how you like the newly acquired ones

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

Orphaned, penniless, Jacob Jankowski jumps a freight train in the dark, and in that instant, transforms his future.
By morning, he's landed a job with the Flying Squadron of the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth. By nightfall, he's in love.

What can I say? This book kept me interested from cover to cover. I found the flashback style of writing that's in the book kept it interesting and added some great perspective. This one was different from the books that I have been reading recently, which I see as a great thing. Being about the Circus, it wasn't really a topic that I was interested in, but now that I've read this book I realize that it is actually an interesting topic.
Another interesting point was that at the end of the book in an Author's Note it says that a lot of the book was based on real events.
I really enjoyed this one. A nice, easy read to keep the start of my reading year going well.

Great review! I've always wanted to read Wuthering Heights, I need to push it forward on my TBR list!
Yes it has always been a book I've wanted to read just because I've heard a lot about it. (This is so embarrassing) My desire to read the book was after the main character, a New York City editor, in The Proposal says that she reads Wuthering Heights every Christmas. Interesting because she was kind of a cruel character herself
Glad you enjoyed Wuthering Heights! Its always been a favourite book of mine.
It was quite enjoyable! It could've been better, could've been worse.
Ya, it was just kinda of "Eh" to me too
Glad I read it though.
Me too!
Happy Reading this year
Thank you!!
Hah, love this.
I love your using the dancing stars for your rating....what a great idea!
I was thinking of the thoughts I read from other members of the forum when I wrote that
I really like the dancing stars too! I was saying there HAS to be some sort of star emoticon and then I found that one and it was perfect

Finished Wuthering Heights today and started Water for Elephants.
Hope to finish two or three books during the read-a-thon. High hopes
-
Yes, that's probably it
.
Great review of Wuthering Heights! I'm glad you enjoyed it and while I have the book on my TBR I don't know how I'll fare with the cruelty (classics aren't really my priority these days to be honest heh).
From what I've heard you either love it or hate it; however, I didn't get that. I was just "meh" about it. I enjoyed reading it because it made me think, but it wasn't fantastic.
If you're not into the dark and cruel thing, I definitely don't recommend reading it.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
Summary
Wuthering Heights is a wild, passionate story of the intense and almost demonic love between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff, a foundling adopted by Catherine's father. After Mr Earnshaw's death, Heathcliff is bullied and humiliated by Catherine's brother Hindley and wrongly believing that his love for Catherine is not reciprocated, leaves Wuthering Heights, only to return years later as a wealthy and polished man. He proceeds to exact a terrible revenge for his former miseries. The action of the story is chaotic and unremittingly violent, but the accomplished handling of a complex structure, the evocative descriptions of the lonely moorland setting and the poetic grandeur of vision combine to make this unique novel a masterpiece of English literature

Although the whole book was dark and filled with a bunch of crazy and twisted people, I enjoyed reading it and thinking about the characters. It's amazing how one little event can change the lives of a whole family for years and years. I imagined the book as one huge slippery slope that none of the characters could escape from. Disappointments early in life lead to mistakes made as an adult and mixed up priorities.
I wonder if those who dislike the book almost "gave up" on it and didn't really finish it out because in the end you learn that Heathcliff is becoming somewhat remorseful for everything he did over the years. In the end the only thing he wanted was Catherine and when that was denied him, he did everything he could to get her back.
As for books that get me thinking, this was one of the best books in that category. I guess I like to find a way to explain the reason behind horrible characters. I liked reading the book and it was a pretty easy read. I would recommend it, but I would also warn against reading it if you're a person that is easily annoyed by characters that do silly or cruel things.

^^^^Ah I see. I really liked Dave and he was so good with Lane. I always wondered why he went to college, kept in touch a little, and then just disappeared. Boo.
Those quotes about his death and the impact he had are so touching. Lived a great life and was a great man. R.I.P.

I think I read The Phantom Tollbooth in 5th grade, but I hardly remember much of what happens now. I might have to re-read that one at some point.
I'm currently reading Life of Pi after I finished Casino Royale a couple weeks ago. I'm not very far into it because I've been catching up on schoolwork, but I'm hoping to actually finish it. At the moment, it isn't all that exciting.
