  1. Thanks Raven :) I'd better spoilerize the rest :D

Having just read the book I struggled to find much in the trailer that I recognised (barrels and spiders .. and Smaug :D). I suppose that's to be expected seeing as how he's going to make forty three films out of the book :D. I guess he'll just give us glimpses of Smaug again because he shouldn't really turn up until nearer the end surely.

Who on earth is the kick-ass elf woman? and what's Legolas got to do with it? Also in places it looks very digital .. unconvincingly so .. perhaps it's not quite ready yet.

I'll still go and see it .. but there's nothing wrong with the original story and I don't know why PJ thinks it needs so many add-ons (well .. I can think of one reason :blush2:  :D) I do hope they haven't cut Beorn out .. perhaps he was there but I missed him

the addition of Tauriel & Legolas were well thougth out as it gave us some extra female in the Tolkien saga, and she gives the young females great pleasure as I saw in cinema today and my daughters found her just the best thing besides Smaug. The new movie is well worth your while.

  2. I love the M. C. Beaton series (Hamish McBeth). Seems I'm hooked. I'm now on her Agatha Raisin series. Something about Scottish villages with quirky locals that does it for me!

The Hamish MacBeth series are situated in Scottish villages while Agatha Raisin is situated in England, I believe.

And the Raisin character I find a bit obnoxious, which takes me out of the novels time after time.

I saw this and liked it, but I've not seen any of the Aliens films so I can't comment on how it relates. I think they'd be way too scary for me so I don't want to try! My boyfriend has them all on Blu-ray though so if I wanted to, I could watch them, I just feel that there's other things more suited for me to watch.

They all are different Alien is essentialy a great horror movie in space, hence the "in space nobody can hear you scream" and is visually the most beautifull movie. Aliens is James Cameron at work and is a scifi horrorish actioner, Alien 3 is claustrofobic and Alien resurrection is Ripleys return. Ripley being the female main character in all movies and she is awesome.

  4. Alien resurrection - composed by John Frizzell

Frankie goes to Hollywood - welcome to the pleasuredome

    westside story - original soundtrack

My stereo while in tiptop order was not able to play my music to my satisfaction due to the fact that I had kind of wrecked my loudspeakers and they are rather expensive to replace. Now that I have I am currently going to my rather large collection and finding great cd's I had forgotten I had and some stuff I did not even know I had.

  5. I firstly read "the Leopard" which was quickly followed by "Phantom" which left me hanging somewhat, but as it happens it is my birthday in a few days and "Police" has already been released in my native language (Dutch) so I know that I will get it. To satisfy my enthousiasm for this recently discovered writer that I really enjoy. And today I received a 2nd hand copy of the "Snowman" which will have to wait after "Police".

That Nesbo chap is quite adictive when it comes to his writing. So I will try to find his older books as well.

I did not have this kind of buzz since I discovered John Connelly's Charlie Parker books last year.

  6. Having recently read my first Dexter novel I found underwhelmed by the original penmanship of the writer.

Somehow the series have much more fun and mystery than the 1st novel did for me.

And as many great shows I do occasionaly take a break from them otherwise I become far too critical to enjoy the show.

I will watch the last two Dexter series when I really feel like it.

  7. Would a Dutch/Belgian film count as foreign, or does it not because I'm Dutch?

I was just wondering about the label foreign films, as I am Dutch as well even the US movies would qualify as foreign.

I generally call the non-mainstream movies , moviehouse movies and they can be from anywhere but are not so much part of the big H'wood machine.

I have a strong like in French cinema where they have shown too often that they are far more original in thinking and moviemaking than their US competition.

  8. Those silly fanboys can be quite insulting and yet seem to be very uncomfortable with anything outside their imagination/comfortzone. Those neanderthalers do not see the possibility of something new, they do want to keep everything the same.

I do applause a new Batman, whoever he might be.

I cannot image Ben Affleck as Batman, but probably will when I see it.
