I've never read any of her books, but you might enjoy 'The Pillars of the Earth' (Ken Follet), if you haven't already read it. It follows the lives of a couple of families over a few years. It's historical fiction though.

I wouldn't pay that much if I could get a physical copy for cheaper. I always go for the cheaper option, even if only by a few pence. I think the reason they're so expensive comes down to greed :/ (And I mean the greed of publishers & companies, not authors )

I want to recommend the 'Song of Ice and Fire' series (George R. R. Martin), but it's awfully long. I haven't read all of the books myself yet, but there's definitely a lot of character development, and I predict a couple of characters will be 'bad-guys turned good'. You might enjoy the 'Enders Game' series (Orson Scott Card). It does start off with Ender as a child, but it's pretty difficult to remember that he isn't an adult anyway, and we get to see him grow up
