The colour coding will be more or less the same though, this dog has a trick learning limit. xx Happy Reading in 2013 xx Look forward to reading your blogs Your recommendations have made me a little poorer each year, but the money would have only gone on pies otherwise so well done you, keep it up.5 - Books I loved 4 - Books I liked a lot3 - Books I liked2 - Books I struggled through1 - Books I abandoned (I am not hoping for tedious books of course but I am hoping to learn when to give up on them.) The 1 point seems generous but will be given for effort .. they could've just sat down and eaten cake after all. It's possible I will only give 0 though if the cover is bad, no excuse for that.QuicklinksMount TBR1001 ChallengeModern LibraryWishlistConquering Mount Virginia Book Club Forum Member's Favourite FictionBook Club Forum Member's Favourite Non-Fiction Poached Quotes on Toast Poppyshake's 133 Books You Must Read Before You DieThe English Counties Challenge Most Famous Books Set in Every American State January 2013 (13 read and 1 listened to)Deceived with Kindness - Angelica Garnett 4/5 (I did love it really .. poppyshake
Poached Quotes on ToastPrevious Toast QuotesMary Poppins - P.L. Travers: He could smell her crackling white apron and the faint flavour of toast that always hung about her so deliciously. (I am loving the idea of a nanny that smelt, faintly or otherwise, of toast. Not that I had a nanny or lived in a world where one was anything other than the woman who married your granddad but had I been lucky enough then this is the sort of nanny I would be demanding.) The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins: My hour for tea is half-past five, and my buttered toast waits for nobody. (I insist on this as much as possible .. stuff does get in the way though ) Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood: Toast was a pointless invention from the Dark Ages. Toast was an implement of torture that caused all those subjected to it to regurgitate in verbal form the sins and crimes of their past lives. Toast was a ritual item devoured by fetishists in the belief that it would enhance their kinetic and sexual powers. Toast cannot be explained by any rational means.Toast is me.I am toast. (I have never heard toast thus described before .. 'an implement of torture'?? I question that .. as far as I know Henry VIII never resorted to it It certainly isn't pointless .. even if it has no other purpose .. it keeps me reasonably on the straight and narrow ) Titus Groan - Mervyn Peake: 'I want hot milk and eggs and lots of toast done only on one side.' Fuchsia frowned as she paused, 'and I want a bag of apples to take along with me for the whole of the day, for I get hungry when I think.' (I can't agree about doing toast only on one side .. it makes it too bendy. I would prefer to take a whole bagful of toast with me for thinking purposes but I do understand that apples are more portable ) The Luminaries - Eleanor Catton: 'On the morning of the 20th March Walter Moody rose before the dawn, rang for hot water, and washed standing at the window, looking over the rooftops as the navy pre-dawn sky faded to grey, then pale blue, then the splendid yellow of a fresh yolk - by which time he was dressed, and descending the stairs, and calling for his toast to be buttered, and his eggs boiled hard.' (I would love to call out for toast as I descended the stairs every day but fear it would be greeted with silence .. I wouldn't be calling for eggs though and if I did they wouldn't be hard boiled .. if there must be an accompaniment then let it be marmalade.) poppyshake
Hello all you good people and welcome I've tidied up and hoovered away crumbs so am ready for visits Any money found down back of armchairs though is mine .. unless it's chocolate coins .. in which case help yourself I won't bore you with my reading resolutions, I'm not going to make any actually as failed miserably last year to stick to any of them. Will endeavour to write my reviews more quickly (that is write them soon after reading book and try to waffle on less) will also carry on with my quest to read more sci-fi and try and introduce some crime into my diet (and by that I don't mean Katie Price ) I am not going to stress about amounts read this year though, time ought to be left for doing other stuff like ... hang gliding and mountaineering. I want to try to stop faffing about on social networks though because I think my brain is melting in line with the Polar ice caps. I'm definitely finding it harder to find Wally than I used to I'm all excited about my 2013 reading year .. fingers crossed xx Edited January 13, 2013 by poppyshake

The one book that jumped out at me from your TBR is Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada, I read it this year and it's now one of my all time favourites. chaliepud
The only two books on your TBR pile that I have read are The House at Riverton and The Night Circus, both very good.. I also have The Last Family in England which I must read soon as frankie has so highly recommended it!! Have a fantastic 2013 Poppy, in both your reading and your dramatic exploits, I've always fancied wing walking, maybe we could take a wing each? :)

poppyshake
Happy reading for 2013 Poppy. The one book that jumped out at me from your TBR is Alone in Berlin by Hans Fallada, I read it this year and it's now one of my all time favourites. Thanks Brian My hubby read Alone in Berlin last year and really enjoyed it (but that's not always a recommendation ) glad you've confirmed it, I love books on WW2 so I'm expecting to love it. Thank you I'd go wing walking with you anytime chalie, we'll take cake for cheering up purposes (or calming down purposes .. cake is surprisingly versatile ) The Night Circus is actually on my bedside table, I tried to pick it up when full of cold but couldn't concentrate on it .. though I could see it was going to be great when clear headed I expect it will be my next read. Yes frankie's name comes straight to mind whenever I see Last Family in England .. I know it will be good You do know how to bring your thread to life poppyshake - with the font, the colours, the smilies, and the sparkle in your words! Thanks bree, I hope to be more regular in keeping up with my reviews too Look forward to your visits, you're most welcome
