Are independent bookshops finally back on the rise?

Recommended Posts

For the first year since 1995, the number of independent bookshops in the UK rose in 2017, albeit by only one.  Interesting article on the Guardian website:

I'm definitely trying to buy more books from independent bookshops instead of Amazon, but I have to say that Waterstones is probably where most of my books are bought at the moment.  Although I still read on Kindle, I think I'm about 50/50 between physical books and e-books, but I have increased my purchases through my local indie, but Waterstones tends to be more tempting because of the discounts/offers, reward points and stamp cards, so I do have to think of my purse too.

I saw this too, good news!  unfortunately there aren't any indie book shops in my local shopping areas, so it's either Waterstone's, Smith's or the supermarket, and online.
