Amazon's customer service

I don't know if this will be any help to anyone, but I got the best customer service from Amazon last night!  Has anyone ever had to transfer books from one Kindle to another?  And you have to do it one by one?  I logged in to the Support Chat and the woman totally did the whole thing for me!  I now have my whole digital library on my Paperwhite :jump:

Now, question- if I want a book that's in the middle of my collection, do I have to page through all the pages to that book or is there a search function?

I don't have a Paperwhite so maybe someone else can help you with your question. I have a Kindle Touch and all my books come up on my homescreen. There is an option to choose if they are listed alphabetically by Title, Author etc.

As far as Amazon goes, I too was VERY impressed with the help they gave when I first got my Kindle. For some reason it wouldn't download books via the computer and it had to be deregistered and registered again. I went into chat with a guy from India and by the end of it you would have thought we were long-lost buddies from way back! We'd just bet them at cricket that day and he was very gracious about that too :D I've also found Amazon are great at giving refunds and changing orders.

ha ha the woman who helped me was from India too!  She said it was no big deal but it was!  And I could tell she was helping others too.  She was so nice.

I have a Paperwhite that is all touch  so maybe we have the same?  I do have the author/ title function but its so irritating when the author or book is so many pages in the collection.  Like.... just at random from mine... I have 44 pages of books- either organized by author or title :banghead:

You should be able to use the search function.  I have an older Keyboard version, but I think the Search function is probably similar.  I access mine from the Menu button, but I think it's on the toolbar at the top of the screen for the Paperwhite.  If it's the same, my search function gives me the option to search online and dictionaries, etc., but also lets me choose "Search my items".  It does take a little while (maybe 20-30 seconds on mine, which seems like ages if you're impatient like me :D), as this will search in the books not just the titles, but it will come back with titles as well.  Hope that helps! :)

You can go onto your main (home) page on your Paperwhite . When you open it up, at the top there's a narrow bar of little icons . You can click on the one that looks like a little magifying glass, and a keyboard will come up on the bottom of the screen so you can type in a title, author, etc to see if you have the book .Then click on it to open it .

They also have a place to do Collections on it, so you can divide your books by genre, alphabetical lists, etc, however you want to divide them which would make it much easier to locate a specific book rather than having them all listed separately . Just an idea !

On the right ( under the main toolbar, there is a place that you can touch to see items by author, title ,recent, or collections .

To put them into collections, click on the top right corner where the little lines are , click on Create Collection . Then the keyboard comes up and you can type in what your first collection will be. Type that in,then click on a book you want in it ,click on Add to Colllection and Save at the3 bottom .

If this is too confusing ,holler and I'll explain it better .

And Yes, Amazon Customer Service gets an A PLUS . Excellent .

I have my books on my Kindle organised into collections, they are based on genre so ie. contemporary fiction or fantasy. It helps though of course you might still have to scroll a little while for certain books, depending on their genre.

I see your problem now ....you have a lot more books than me :giggle2:  Would it help to put the ones you've already read into the Cloud?

WHOA!  Never noticed that before it totally works!  Thanks!

I've had good experiences with Amazon's Customer Service too. I'm glad that they can transfer your books from one Kindle to the other....it's something I'm dreading doing when I get a new Kindle. :hide:

I just got a fire today and HATE it!  Although, my books transfered automatically, from my paperwhite to the fire,

which was cool.

That's a terrific idea!  I might start that as a project...

I will probably make a fool out of myself but I am not quite sure what everyone is talking about. First of all though I love my kindle fire and it is the best thing I have bought.

All kindle books that you have read, borrowed from library and/or bought reside on Amazon under the "Manage Your Kindle" location. Amazon will transfer all of your books....read, borrowed or bought....whenever you buy a different kindle.

The first kindle fire I bought had a small problem holding a long charge and I told Amazon about it and they promptly sent me a new kindle, no charge, and then proceeded to transfer everything to the new kindle.

I really like the way I can get on my desktop computer and access Amazon and go to "Manage My Kindle' and see the list of everything that I have read on the kindle......going back 2 or 3 years.

We've moved to a hate relationship to a love/ hate one :D I like the apps, games, playing Netflix...but I hate the net.  Its so tiny.  And for some reason, my Samples aren't showing up- which is key for me because that's how I remind myself of books I want to possibly read/ check out.

I agree with you. I also have a fire and love it for videos , internet ,etc. I do use it for reading at times , if my Paperwhite is charging up or if I'm reading a book with pictures (rarely) , because the photos show up better on it .

I like all the Kindles I've had ,for all different reasons . They've all been nice , and amazon is the best .

Love the idea of having a Fire and a Paperwhite.  You can have the same libraries on 2 different Kindles?

Yes, your content  transfers to any device you register in your name . I've had several different Kindles , but the only 2 I use now are the Fire and the Paperwhite , which I like better for reading . It's much lighter .

Away from the Kindle I have had two orders which I had issues with and both times Amazon were excellent at sorting them out. One order arrived damaged and they replaced everything with next day delivery and gave me 50% of the original cost back without me asking for it.

Wow that's awesome!  I love Amazon, just one reason I went with the Fire and not an Ipad.
