It's really nice you managed to read the 5 books in the series despite not feeling well :). I'm glad you enjoyed the series even if it wasn't as good as the other series you've read. I hope you enjoy Rest You Merry if you decide to re-read it :).

    Thanks Gaia :)

And a big thank you for doing these read-a-thons throughout the year !:clapping:

I'm so sorry about your migraine :empathy::hug:. I hope you feel better soon :flowers2:.

Thank you ! :D I did manage more reading than I thought ; I seem to have read the 5 books in Charlotte Macloed`s Grub-and-Stakers series, over 4 days. :)

It`s a fun series, though not as good as her Peter Shandy or Sarah Kelling & Max Bittersohn series. Taking place in a small town in Canada, it`s enjoyably silly ( though, I did have a bit of trouble with a couple of the characters - one of them speaks in a Scotch dialect and another using Regency vocabulary - it was sometimes a bit awkward to read ). :)

I might re-read the first Peter Shandy book this month ; a Xmas themed book called Rest You Merry. :D

  3. I have yet another stoopid migraine now so won`t be reading as much as I`d like; I did finish off EE Holmes` Heart of the Rebellion last night, which was excellent, and also read a Charlotte MacLeod mystery - The Grub-and-Stakers Move a Mountain ( also v. good ). :)

i`m hopefully reading a bit of the next Grub-and-Stakers book tonight . :)

Finished with The Troubled Man and decided to start The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche. It’s a book that has fantastic reviews but I’m having second thoughts about carrying on as I discovered the author has been disgraced in a sexual abuse scandal. The book was written well before the scandal emerged and is considered a bit of a classic spiritual text but I still feel a bit icky reading it.

I read that years ago ! No idea about the scandal. :(

Oh, lovely books!   I read the Orange 1 manga, very goofy and enjoyable. I love the title Don't Cry for Me, Hot Pastrami....:rolol:

The Sharon Kahn books are fun ( lightweight, but in a good way - not overly taxing and the mystery bit is good, as well as lovely characters ). :)

  6. October`s Reads :  First place goes to Flunking Sainthood, a witty, touching and informative memoir of the year the author spent following different spiritual practices. I also highly rated the May Sarton journal and the Ada Madison books with a maths professor solving mysteries. :)

Patricia Cornwell is pretty popular but I could never get into her books for some reason. I will have to try again sometime.

A little story about Patricia Cornwell. When I lived near Charlottesville, Virginia I lived out in the country (actually kinda in the woods). my neighbor was a Bluegrass musician along with his brother. A fairly well known Archaeoligist and his wife was also part of the group. They would sometimes get together on my neighbors deck outside and play. They would always invite us over. Back to the story, Patricia Cornwell once hired my neighbor and the Bluegrass group to play for her at a party at her house (this was when she lived in Richmond, VA). She sent a helicopter that landed near my house and my neighbors house to pick up my neighbor and the others and flew them to her house in Richmond to entertain at the party. :)

I missed this completely ! What a great story. :)  Was that when you lived near Rita Mae Brown ? :)

We just finished watching Goliath on Amazon Prime. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of Billy Bob Thornton, but this man can act!! Great show. I'm also about to start watching series 5 of The Doctor Blake Mysteries.

    Aw, lovely Doctor Blake. :D

I`m almost up to date with last season`s DC shows ( Arrow, Flash, Supergirl - have seen Legends of Tomorrow finale already ).

Yes, it's very similar to Kiki's Delivery Service, but much slower with the story-line...and our young witch has a black cat :) and a broom (though her broom skills are....hazardous ) .

The whole of the manga is very sweet - with beautiful illustrations, and everyone is pleasant to everyone, so far. It sounds very dull, but I loved the first of the series, and it just made me feel warm and fuzzy after reading it. :smile2:

I had a look on Amazon and it does look cute. :D

Just started reading manga Flying Witch Vol. 2 by Chihiro Ishizuka - a very sweet and gentle, slice-of-life story of a 15 year old girl’s life in rural north Japan. Who happens to be a witch in training… ☺️

Ooh, sounds good. :D Is it similar to Kiki`s Delivery Service ? :)

208 @Little Pixie!? How fast do you get through a book? Please teach me your secret!

I've now read 30, which means I'd have to read 20 books in about 50 days to reach my target of 50 books...

I read a lot of cosy mysteries, which are around 220-250 pages per book ; that`ll take me around 2/12 to 3 hrs per book. :) I do neglect other things in order to spend more time reading ( and go to bed earlier to read, too ). :D

Good luck reaching 50 ! :boogie:
